‘Tis the season for media shenanigans.
NBC’s David Gregory, the subject of a now-popular police investigation, is on vacation and will not host this Sunday’s edition of “Meet The Press.”
The Washington Metropolitan Police Department launched an investigation this week into whether Gregory and NBC violated city laws when he displayed what appeared to be a gun magazine on last week’s show. Today, the police issued a statement, saying NBC had been told before last Sunday’s show that it was “not permissible” to show a high-capacity gun magazine on air.
So Gregory and NBC may have defied the police. Now he’s on vacation. Next we’ll hear that he’s not appearing in public due to a hangnail or concussion or something.

I’m sure they were wrong that it is illegal to show a high-cap magazine on the air. My God, how many high-cap mags do you see during the average war/action movie?
Now, what you see there is Mr. Gregory in possession of a high-cap mag, which is a violation of the law in that jurisdiction. It’s not the showing of it that’s illegal, its the having of it.
I know it’s not likely to happen, but I’d love to see this crapweasel get crushed under the full weight of the laws he so ardently wants applied to the rest of us.
Here we go again. Fanatical opponents of Law X accuse an advocate of Law X….of violating Law X in his demonstration. You DO realize that if you want to ban a particular item, it makes sense to show the world what that item is?
Your tactics are beyond pathetically desperate. They’re downright puerile and vindictive.
First, I’m not “accusing” him of violating the law, he’s doing it on camera for everyone to see. He is literally breaking the law right before your eyes.
Secondly, if it’s really necessary to show an item in order to advocate banning it (a point I’m not willing to concede because it’s absurd, btw) there’s no reason he couldn’t use a diagram, a photo or some other graphic.
There’s no “demonstration” or “advocacy” exception written into the DC law banning that magazine. The law is supposed to be the law, and Gregory shouldn’t be allowed to follow a different set of them than I have to. If you think that’s vindictive then we’ll just have to disagree on that.
And as long as I’m responding, the side of the debate attempting to use dead schoolchildren to browbeat their opponents into submission has no business calling anyone “pathetic and desperate”. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
The media as social engineering. That magazine had a normal capacity. What the gun banners are promoting is a small-capacity magazine.
Damn straight it is. the 30 round mag has been the standard for the AR-15/M-16 rifle since the end of the VeitNam war. 10 ten round max that the media likes to call ‘standard’ and all others ‘high’ capacity is patently false. MOST pistols sold today hold more than 10. That is what they are designed for that is the standard. 10 is a low capacity magazine.
You guys go after him. You go right ahead, overreach is good for your opponents.
How, exactly, is it overreach to ask that the law be enforced? And if you think it IS overreach to do so then maybe, just maybe, you should consider the possibility that the law is absurd.
James, Joshie Pooh isn’t a scholar. People hide behind these handles that proclaim what they wish they had. Maybe his 6th grade teacher told him he was smart or something? Don’t let it distract you from the truth Joshie’s trying to ignore with his alinsky misdirection.
Joshua, don’t worry about any personal ‘tagging’ by some. The Alinsky Rules for Radicals is well used these days by all radicals regardless of any political party or ideological persuations.
While I am perfectly happy to see Mr. Gregory go to jail, this episode does serve to show why the capital originally was, and has to be, under Congressional control–it prevents a independent state or city government from trying to play politics at the national level (the way the Paris mob once did) by basically arresting legislators it does not like on trumped up charges, or deliberately craft laws to embarrass one side, and otherwise serve no purpose.
In CA, possession of that magazine is a felony. This is not a trivial matter, at least not for the law abiding folks/gun-owners.
It is rumored that David Gregory is ailing with a stomach virus and suffered a concussion after fainting. He claims that he will make himself available to answer questions sometime in January after he recovers
.
Assuming the magazine was of the nature banned in D.C. why then, would the NRA and its members not be shelling out millions in his defense by an absolute showing that the law is unconstitutional. According to all my reading on the subject here on PJM of recent, it should be a cake-walk win for the NRA and its members. Just seems the NRA and its members are letting a gift horse trot on by them.
But really now, our betters are defined by the rights they possess that we don’t. In this case, that includes the right to violate any law they please without penalty, so long as their hearts are in the right (i.e., left) place.
