In defeat, Mia Love Still Shines
Despite a narrow defeat in Utah’s newly created 4th district, Mia Love showed why she is a rising star in the Republican party.
“Congratulations to Jim on a hard-fought victory,” Love said in a statement. “It was a close race, but ultimately the voters of Utah have spoken. I want to thank the hundreds of volunteers and staff who worked tirelessly for my campaign, and am humbled by their dedication and commitment to the betterment of Utah and our nation. I plan on continuing to work on promoting conservative issues and look forward to returning to Saratoga Springs and spending more time with my family.”
You no doubt recall Love’s excellent speech at the Republican National Convention in September and her stirring peroration:
The American Dream is our story. It is a story of human struggle, standing up and striving for more. It’s been told for over 200 years with small steps and giant leaps; from a woman on a bus to a man with a dream; and the bravery of the greatest generation, to the entrepreneurs of today.
This is our story. This is the America we know because we built it.
With Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan we can restore the America we know and love. The world will know it, our children will tell it and our grandchildren will possess it for years to come!
God bless America
Few politicians go through their career undefeated. Love was bidding to become the first Republican African-American woman elected to Congress in history. Judging by how she has handled herself in triumph and defeat, there is no doubt she will make her mark on America somewhere, at sometime.
.

By their own logic, those Democrat voters are clearly racist.
I hope Mia Love keeps on being a star.
Nice words. That’s what Republicans have now. Nice words. When Republicans can see into government and actually say they have a PROCESS they want to install to make government better they’ll probably do better. Less Government? For two years the Republican House has been…funding more governnment? MSM not reporting Obama’s failures? The Republican Congressmen and Senators never left their offices to stand on the street or the steps of the Pentagon to demand answers.
Why do you think the Republicans cannot touch the fact that a sweat-stained W2/1099-MISC MUST be matched by government ‘free’ money (welfare, food stamps, Section 8 housing) getting a comparable 1099-GOV? Simple. They play the same game with tax monies that Democrats do but won’t admit it. No principle, Loud POLICY, NO PROCESS. If I see one more person standing in a soup line taking pictures of Michelle with a $300 phone I’m going to puke. My sweat earns government reporting every day!!!
Great, another “rising star” who can’t win an election. Look, Mia Love is a terrific person and I love what she represents, but we need candidates who can win. The conservative landscape is littered with “rising stars” who failed to win.
To be successful in politics you have to be strong in both ideas and leadership. The leadership part includes the ability to persuade voters outside of your base that your ideas are good and worthy of their vote. We’ve got plenty of ideas people, but few leaders.
So Mia Love needs to win an election of consequence before we can classify her as a rising star.
It appears now that to win an election in most parts of the country you have to advocate give-aways that Republicans simply will not and cannot support.
There is much whining among teh professional Republicans about the Latino vote and what Republicans and conservatives must to do win over some appreciable part of it. The whiners never seem to offer any specifics, however. That’s because there are none that would appeal to the Latinos and to the Republican rank and file. Something approaching amnesty is the only thing that might help with the Latino bloc and Republicans see that for the cultural and national folly that it is and will not support it.
Republicans don’t get it. Democrats are about campaigning 24/7. It’s why they can’t govern. Substance is of no significance. I don’t suggest that Republicans duplicate their unprincipled practices, only that they react accordingly.
How is it possible that Todd Akin with his experience can’t answer a question about an element of the Republican platform without putting his foot in his mouth? Republicans need to go to campaign school and their big donors need to put their money into countering the Obamamedia during the off season. Btw, why answer a lefty reporter’s question when a brief campaign speech will do as well? (Yes, I used to be a politician – a Democrat when Democrats were still patriots. And no, I never lost an election.)
How did she lose? She was running ahead. I think this is the result of a concerted fraud.
No more Republicans who shine in defeat!
I, for one, am heartily sick of the Bushes, Doles, McCains, and Romneys that, every four years, step forth from the flaccid interior of the Republican Party.
Perhaps it’s time for the Republican Party to go away. It provides strong opposition neither in victory nor defeat. It has become the poor relative who simply wants a seat at the far end of the national table.
After Obama appoints three hard-left, anti-Constitutional Supreme Court judges in his second term, there will be no need for the Republican Party, for the Constitution will be but another forgotten document not taught by America’s teachers.
Requiescat in pace, United States of America. You had a good run.
I think repubs need to do some soul searching, especially on how to broaden our party to get that remaining 5% we need to win, with groups like hispanics, asians, and women. Hispanics and asians are workers and entrepenours and dont want gov handouts, they just want an accomidation on immigration. We can’t cede 70% of the hispanic vote to the dems and win, we need to move on immigration. And we need to make sure that if we nominate any pro life candidates, at least they are not religious nut types like Akin and Mourdock, who badly alienated women and moderates. We also need to move on gays to win young people, who really cares if 2 men want to get married, they dont hurt us or cost us anything. We cant just depend on fervor within our present cooalition, we must expand it, and the type of issues I cited here are not the vital type of pocket book issues we must stand firm on, but can win us a lot of new votes.
What really perplexes me is when so called Republicans or conservatives vote for Romney for president because they are against things like Obamacare and his policies in general in deep red states and then vote for the Democrat senator who supports Reid and Obama like in Montana and N. Dakota.
It is time to admit that about 15$ or so of the voting population are complete morons and yes some of them are supposedly on our side.
Mia Love should now go to FoxNews and propose a new TV show, along the lines of The Five, but with an all-black panel. Keep the Five’s formula of 4 conservatives and 1 liberal. Co-hosts could include Allen West, since he lost last night, too; and people like Charles Payne, JC Watts, Juan Williams, Larry Elder, etc.
It’s unfortunate, and poignant, that blacks when pursuing politics can’t just be unhyphenated Americans. But that’s the way the Democratic Party has insidiously stacked the deck, so that’s the way the game must be played, if conservatives are ever gonna have half a chance to persuade the naive ethnic-minority locksteppers that Big Govt. progressivism is bad for them and corrosive for their communities.
I agree that Mia Love was a good candidate, and I hope we hear more from her.
