Reported by ABC en Español. More to come…
In the absence of anyone who actually speaks Spanish, here’s a little bit more of my translation:
The candidate of the “Mesa de la Unidad Democratica” (a coalition of opposition parties) …. the consulting firm Varianza has reported their exit polls show 51.3 percent for Henrique Capriles, the opposition candidate, to Hugo Chavez’ 48.06 percent.
These exit polls were published before the polls closed, because the polls were held open for an extra hour because of “long lines”. This is strictly against Venezuelan election law.
6PM PDT: Polls are mostly closed now. The Consejo Nacional Electoral has gone to the counting rooms.
6:13PDT: Univision is reporting that it looks like a clear victory for the challenger: “Univision confirms the trend to Capriles is irreversible” (from a tweet.)
6:19PDT: There’s another report that “credible exit polls” show Chavez with an 9-10 point lead of Capriles….
7:14PDT: They’re teasing a result soon.
8:00PDT: Or maybe not.

It will be interesting to see if Chavez concedes.
Help spread this story, it is a problem for Obama and his pals.
As Obama’s cover story comes down, the curtain goes up on the USAO’s cover-up of J.J., Jr.’s role in the Blago story

No, no, no. In Soviet Venezuela, election loses Chavez.
I went to ABC in Espanol and they still have another hour to close polls. The exit polls show Chavez losing but will have to see what they try to pull at the last minute. Hope it turns out well and Chavez will be gone.
If you click on the link above at the top of page it will translate to english for you.
Yeah, I’m struggling a bit. My Spanish was pretty fluent when I was seven.
That news page is in Spanish but at top of page you can ask it to translate and read the whole article.
Holy jumping flap jacks this could be big, but my 2nd language is Pig Latin, so please keep us posted.
Two bloggers in Venezuela, Venezuela News and Views and Devil’s Excrement are providing frequent updates. It does seem that Capriles is winning, but the results (as distinguished from exit polls) are a couple of hours away.
Over?
How is Obama going to respond when his book buddy Hugo goes down to defeat?
If you want up to date information, it might be useful to look at the two Venezuelan English language blogs I noted in a comment quite some time ago. That comment remains “in moderation,” apparently because I included their links.
Thanks, Dan, yeah, and I didn’t look back at my mod board . up now
Is the media in Venezuela similar to our wonderfully objective MSM?
And who is monitoring that election?
Prayers for all those who have voted against Chavez. Let’s hope that the old adage that it doesn’t matter how many vote but who counts the votes does not hold true — there and here. How perverse that an election in Venezuela against Chavez could give us hope for our elections.
Awe…Sean Penn is going to be soooo mad. And bomber Bill Ayers and obama and Castro and Putin….
Your headline is wrong. Chavez has supposedly won. Here, from Reuters — http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/10/08/us-venezuela-election-idUSBRE89601Z20121008
Didn’t actually look at the rest of Tatler, eh?
The link I came in on was directed at this page. Maybe if you’re going to have a post titled “Breaking: Chavez Loses Election(?) (Updating as we hear more),” you ought to be a bit faster about actually updating it.
I’ll be happy to give you a refund of the admission price.
You can keep the admission, and the unjustified snark.
How long until Obama embraces the Chavez dubious victory?
I predict it will be quick. Obama will not hesitate to add credibility to his socialist friends.
Odds are, Chavez will be declared the winner, either outright (with no one monitoring the vote-counters) or after some reported snafu that triggers a “recount” that, by golly, turns out showing Chavez the winner after all. That’d be right out of the Soviet playbook.
It’s not who votes. It’s who counts the votes.
— Stalin
I tend to think that if one is capable of actually counting the votes, they are voting for Capriles.
I’m sure that nate silver will be quick to ‘certify’ the results for chavez.
I wish I were joking…
