What is the President of the United States afraid of? That he will be quoted accurately?
The simple fact is, Obama is one of the few people on the planet who, thanks to his Secret Service protection, can actually force people to surrender their communications tools. The Secret Service can simply refuse access to anyone who insists on keeping their smartphones with them. But that isn’t the purpose of the Secret Service. Their purpose is to protect the president from threats to his life, not threats from his own mouth.
Are there any self-respecting members of the media who will refuse to surrender their cell phones and other basic tools of their trade just because Obama says so? Any? Anywhere?
There are Voice Recorder Pens. Perhaps, one of the pool reporters will be clever enough to bring one.
By the by, are the guests required to surrender theirs too? I cannot imagine how Beyonce could function without hers.
