It’s not immediately obvious why Barack Obama is campaigning so hard to retain the presidency. He shows no interest in actually doing the work.
I know, I know, he likes the image of power. He may even like some aspects of the actual power. But the president’s most sweeping authority is not in tweaking the federal bureaucracy to engineer his policy preferences, it’s in the realm of foreign policy. But beyond killing off a terrorist here and there, this president is extremely reluctant to spend any time or effort understanding the world as it is, not as he wishes it to be. He has his narrative — the world loves me! — and he’s sticking to it.
He prefers football and Baracketology. He also watches a lot of baseball. Even while America loses what’s left of its influence in the Middle East, and a nuclear war may be in the offing.
Update: Here’s a poster to commemorate President Barack Obama’s fine leadership.

Understanding it would require he have some humility and do some work. It’s easier to shrug and blame Bush. And frankly I think it’s racist for you to be pointing this out.
President Obama ‘Watched A Lot of Football This Weekend’
Well, sure. With the world around him crumbling, why shouldn’t he be engaged in leisure activities? Although it appears this is what he spends much of his time doing now, here’s hoping he’ll have plenty of time after January 20 for fiddle playing.
I suggest that we have televised football 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Good point! Can you imagine what the deficit and price of gas would be had he been actually doing something?
President Nero! Long time no see, man!
Mary Katharine Ham had the theory that Obama really wants to be an ex-President. Democratic ex-Presidents are treated like living saints: they can do no wrong, always listened to as “elder statesmen” and invited to speak everywhere. Sure, he’s caught up in campaigning, but in reality he’s more looking forward to being “retired” like Bill Clinton and Carter.
– SNL, even he might have called NBC and thanked it and Seth for their support yet observed that it was unfairly biased against Romney.
Goodness gracious, Bryan, I had understood that President Obama resigned yesterday and that President Biden is now in charge, ably assisted by Vice President Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, the very best Vice President he could have hoped to find.
President Obama has been voting “present” his entire life. He headed the Law Review…and produced nothing. He was elected to the Illinois Senate…and produced nothing. The U.S. Senate…and produced nothing. He has not completed one task that has been set before him in his adult life. Why should the Presidency be any different? I agree with Mary Katherine Ham that he wants to be an ex-President, as that is the only job for which he is truly qualified.
FAIL!
I was scheduled to work last weekend and I did exactly that, instead of watching football. No time to peek at football scores! After I got back home, I was too tired from, you guessed it, WORKING, to pay much attention to the game that was still on. But I did manage to pull myself together enough to catch up on my news feeds and email from my blog team members and put out one more blog post before going to sleep.
I don’t get paid for keeping up on world news, but I get it done. Obama, who IS being paid to keep up on world news, can’t be bothered to do his job.
You missed the Niner game?!?!?! Dude!!!
you guys act like the death of an American ambassador and the intimidation of an American filmmaker by American police officers for disobeying Sharia Law is a big deal.
As Barack the Destroyer looks out upon the smoldering wreckage of a bankrupt, divided, and devastated landscape that was once a prosperous nation, he thinks to himself, “My work here is done.”
His actions only don’t make sense if you think he actually cares about the country.
I think you’re missing the point. He enjoys the Presidency, just not the parts where he has to work. It gets him whatever tee time he wants on the links, he rides a helicopter to the golf course, he and his family can go on vacation wherever they want for free, if he wants to take the wife on a “date night” in NYC they shut down half the city for security purposes, etc. I think he enjoys the trappings of power about as much as any president we’ve had recently, with the possible exception of Clinton. I used to think that no matter what I’d never hark back to the halcyon days of Slick Willie, but now I’m beginning to feel a bit of nostalgia. He was a narcissist and a bit of a goof, but at least he worked hard, and he generally tried to do the right thing. Obama I think means well, but he has no point of reference one way or the other about anything other than academia, seems to listen to the wrong advice too closely, and then closes down the office and goes off to practice bowling or watch football or get in another round of golf. It’s sort of embarrassing. At least when Clinton was groping Monica it was in the Oval Office, so that if something momentous happened he could get right to work. If we have an emergency now, we have to track down the teenaged president, who’s off somewhere goofing around, having fun…
I think that Clinton and Obama have a great deal in common–both are the products of mothers who flitted from thing-to-thing and man-to-man. Their fathers were non-existant and their other male role models little better. We are being governed by a damaged man child who has been stroked and praised way beyond anything he deserves. Small wonder he plays golf, watches sports and attends fundraisers while the world burns. Say what you will about Carter, a self-righteous prig, but at least he showed up for work. Who knew that we would ever look back on 1979 as the Good Old Days.
In order to be the smartest man in the room, you have to actually be in the room once in a while.
The Obama football photo reminds me of Vladimir Putin’s photo ops:

He was multi-tasking, he is really really good at that. Just ask the families of the 4 Americans killed in Libya how it works out when a detached and selfish egomaniac has the responsibility for your well being. Barry I hope you get justice for your indifference to this country and it’s citizens.
I’ll bet that photo has been altered. Considering the way the media covered for him when he “tried” to throw a baseball to home plate, and when he missed like 8 three-point shots in a row, I would bet he can’t throw a football worth a damn. One more way he is a fake.
He can’t name a White Sox player he likes, calls the Miami Heat the “Miami Heats”. How can he watch all those basketball games and not know? Totally dishonest. Any baseball fan in the country can name at least one favorite player from their favorite team. Heck, an acquaintance of mine who was a Yankee fan claimed that to be entitled to fan status a person need to know their favorite teams starting line up, in order and by position, and the names of the starting rotation. 0bama, Harvard graduate, probably can’t even name all the teams and nicknames of any major league. He’s an idiot.
