Well, the headline anyway.
Naturally, Klein couches mild criticisms in as much partisan advocacy “journalism” as he possible can without donning a cheerleader skirt.
The President gave a fine speech Thursday night. His vision of the country is much closer to the place where I live — and, I daresay, where most Americans live — than Mitt Romney’s. It is an America that includes truck drivers and teachers and autoworkers as well as Romney’s beloved entrepreneurs.
Is it now safe to infer without being accused of racism that “Romney’s beloved entrepreneurs” aren’t a priority for the current administration?
Perhaps it was the absence of detail. The only propositional statistic I remember is his calling for 100,000 more math and science teachers. I wanted him to say: Here’s what we did that worked; here’s where we need to work harder; here are a few things we’ve learned we have to do differently; here’s what I hope we can do.
Maybe the news of the week for manufacturing and jobs (which they surely knew was coming) tempered the “rah-rah” spirit a little.
For every slightly serious observation, Klein offers a paragraph or two of defense. However, it is noticeable that the Left Media is asking any questions at all.
But I still wonder: What is he going to do with his second term? What are the next things we need to do as a nation?
The more skeptical voters in America might believe that President Obama’s answer to the first question has little to do with the second.

Romney’s America is full of “can-do” people. Obamas America (and Klein’s) is full of “can’t-do-so-I-need-government-assistance” people. I do not live in the latter America.
Spot on, Bugs. Romney’s America: Ask not what your country can build for you, ask what you can build for yourself. Obama’s America: First, don’t claim that you built anything – realize that government built that for you. Secondly, ask not what you can build for yourself, demand that your country build something for you . . . declining-in-value-houses, exploding cars, outrageously-priced solar panels, NIMBY-windmills, and failing schools with booming unions.
– is the wind blowing.
Stephen – I think you put your finger on something… Other analysts have suggested that his slightly subdued style was to counter Clint Eastwood’s monologue… Others have said “more mature”, “weighed down by the office” blah blah blah… But Obama knows the inside economic data before everyone else, and even though his pals are desperately trying to spin it, they cannot paper over this level of BLEAK.
I think it’s over. This freak show of a man, this carney, with all his unmitigated arrogance and marginal skills, has enough snake-sense to know it’s time to pack up the oils and opium and tars and move his wagon over the county line….
He was also lying through his teeth about natural gas. Almost every proponent of the green initiatives he was touting in the speech is trying to shut down all fracking.
“It is an America that includes truck drivers (in unions) and teachers (in unions) and autoworkers (in unions)” Ezra Klein
I put some clarifications within parentheses. Klein probably doesn’t notice that his ‘inclusive’ selections are actually a small fraction of Americans and not “where most Americans live”.
