My friend Bill Reader read Rick Moran’s article on Noam Scheiber’s psychic-hotline act of guessing Romney’s motives for the Ryan pick. (Yes, I know it’s unfair to compare Mr. Scheiber to a psychic-hotline worker. I understand some of those self-proclaimed psychics often get things right. I apologize to them.)
When Bill sent me an email under the format of an open letter to Mr. Scheiber, it was just too good NOT to share with Tatler readers. So, with his permission, I reproduce it below.
An Open Letter To A Liberal Ass
– by Bill Reader
Dear. Mr. Scheiber:
Romney has, on multiple occasions, been accused of being liberal. The word on the street is, there’s no difference between Obama and Romney. I personally believe that this word is on the street because no one wants it hanging about in their living room, but hey.
The thing is, with the US economy slated to cease to exist… let me just repeat that for emphasis… cease to exist, according to CBO estimates, by 2027, the economy is an overriding concern. Sadly, Obama’s plan for the economy, according to what he’s done in the last four years, is to a) double our deficits b) raise taxes even though his own accountants say that it will have virtually no effect on tax receipts, and then c) spend the ill-gotten gains from these activities on cronies and companies that show the same long-term survivability as an injured fly in a frog exhibit, but which he nevertheless likes because their business plans contain liberal buzz words. Conservatives and even many liberals (those who have not cashed in their brain for a “Free Tibet” bumper-sticker and a coupon for a half-caf green tea latte in a sustainable recyclable paper cup would be favorites) detect some subtle flaws with this plan. Several were willing to believe Romney would govern no differently, however. By picking an actual fiscal conservative for a running mate, Romney has made a clear statement that he’s noticed there’s a problem with our economic plan and will actually do something about it.
Obama, meanwhile, plans to release lots of commercials explaining why his economic plan has totally worked, which will be reassuring to people watching it through café windows as they huddle in their cardboard boxes. He’s already accusing Romney of not being serious about cutting the deficit, because the White House decorators apparently forgot to install mirrors. So, basically, Obama plans to deal with the problems in our economy by pretending that there are no actual problems in the economy. It is entirely possible that by October he will have devolved to campaign commercials where he sticks his fingers in his ears and screams “la la la la la” at the top of his lungs.
The American people voted for a man with a plan in 2008. Team Romney and I fervently hope that in 2012, they’ll refine that into voting for a man with a sensible plan.
Sincerely,
Bill Reader

America’s economy is slated to seize up only if the looting continues…
All administrations and congresses have been looting the future of their constituents for as long as I can remember. Some loot less with noble intentions. Some loot more with intent to loot more (Looter#44).
R & R seem to have the integrity hopefully with the spine to come down hard on the culture of looting and make the healing medicine available for our recovery.
R & R is needed. Thank you.
It isn’t quite true that the economy ceases to exist. The economy will always go on in one form or another. What will cease to exist is the currency. And when the currency goes the way of the Wiemar Mark, all obligations in that currency, including public pensions and social security, also cease to exist.
I for one have no desire to need a wheelbarrow full of cash to buy a sack of groceries. That is our future under the tax-n-spend crowd, mostly made up of Democrats with a few RINO’s thrown in for comic relief.
I wish it were a only a FEW RINOs.
I don’t know if Romney is a liberal or not, but he most likely was a draft dodger (Google it and decide for yourself). At least W served in the National Guard.
If I wanted the looting to continue, I would come up with an issue-dodging response like that one.
To fahagen : Well said
And Obama went to school on grants as a foreign student. And passed classes with mediocre grades due only to affirmative action.
I could not care less though because that is in the past. My concern is with now and Obama’s love of quadrupling deficits and regulating job creators out of business.
Anybody but Obama The Republic killer.
Romney was on a missionary deferment during the Vietnam war, unlike Clinton who was cowering in the USSR, or Obama who was Indonesian at the time. While Obama was toddling around Indonesia eating dog and horse meat and attending a muslim school, Romney was working to spread his faith through service. He was not being paid at the time, but he did have an opportunity to confront members of a local rugby team harassing a young woman. Yet ignorant of the facts you imply that he’s cowardly. When you google wikipedia, perhaps you should read more than two sentences, if you can.
As an evangelical Christian, I have some, uh, differences with Mormonism.
However, I do respect the hard work of those young men who save up their own money to support themselves while they spend 2 years on the mission field.
I have a lot of problems with Mitt Romney. His work ethic isn’t one of them.
I, too, am a Christian and have more than a few doctrinal differences with the LDS. But I also believe that Article VI of the Constitution was correct when it said there is to be no “religious test” for candidacy. My point is that Romney was not on some boondoggle, or self-serving quest, or cowardly retreat from a war that draft-dodging liberals are such hypocrites to smear. My point is that Romney, like all Mormon teenagers are required, fulfilled an article of faith in the mission field.
If you believe the accusation that Romney is a coward to be a missionary, you’ve never spent anytime at all defending your faith, whatever it is. I’ve done it, and trust me, it works your faith like a muscle with all the accompanying “no pain no gain”. And if being a missionary is cowardly, then poor Mother Theresa, all those years in Calcutta just to avoid the tough jobs… sarc off\
I, too have some problems with the LDS theology, but we are not voting for a Pastor-In-Chief. If more Christians lived their faith the way most LDS live theirs, there would be more Christians (if fewer people calling themselves Christian.) There would also be much less of a role for a Federal government to interefere.
The economy is going down the tubes, the guy that did it wants another shot at wrecking it more, and that’s the best you can come up with? “*MAY* have been a draft dodger” — and you provide no link to any substantiating proof?
Show a group of Republicans and Democrats the math that shows the economy is going to tank in 2027.
Republican: “We need to stop this and reverse it”
Democrat: “Why do you hate Black people?”
>headdeskheaddesk<
Sadly accurate!
Draft dodger, animal abuser, homophobe bully, cold-blooded murderer, tax cheating felon. What’s next? Maybe we’ll hear about how he stole Johnny’s lunch money in the 3rd grade. Some new DNA evidence will be uncovered linking him to Henry Lee Lucas? Rumours of piles of children’s bones with gnaw marks in his basement?
Funny, last time I heard this complaint, it was that W was a draft-dodger *because* he served in the National Guard.
Oh, details, Charlie, details!
I think he would need to put both arms in to seal those satellite dishes.
“Meanwhile, Obama plans to release lots of commercials explaining why his economic plan has totally worked….”
This, in spades. Because no reporter is willing to ask King Barry a tough question, he and his minions can claim they’ve “secured the borders”, “reduced health care costs for millions”, “saved $700 billion in Medicare costs simply by becoming more efficient”, “fought off the Republican efforts to take away a woman’s right to choose”, made the oceans stop rising and have had the most transparent administration in history–and fully half the electorate will believe them.
Once they get away with lying once, and don’t have their asses handed to ‘em, what’s to stop the avalanche of lies after that? Answer: nothing.
There’s quite a lot of effort going into debunking the lies, although not in the Old Media. We can at least hope for some traction when the deceits are as blatant as the Soptic ad, or Obama’s claims about the Ryan budget proposals.
As always, the major challenge is getting people to listen to something other than an Old Media outlet — and take what they hear seriously.
Remember “the private sector is doing fine” right up there with “you didn’t build that.”
I came across a video the other day that compares and contrasts the two men with greater accuracy and brevity than I can achieve in words.

Watch it if you dare. The reality of this election is that Americans are not choosing between liberalism and conservatism, but between communism and national socialism, as the Germans did in 1933. Unless a majority of Americans wake up between now and November, this will be the last free election we have. Throughout recorded history, no people who have surrendered their freedom have ever regained it.
