Senate majority leader Harry Reid took to the leftwing Huffington Post to launch what may be the most negative attack of the presidential campaign to date. The Nevada senator insinuated that he knows a guy who knows a guy who swears up and down that Mitt Romney paid no taxes for 10 years. Reid is trying to fill the information vacuum left by Romney’s decision not to release more of his past tax returns — by filling that vacuum with a smear.
Saying he had “no problem with somebody being really, really wealthy,” Reid sat up in his chair a bit before stirring the pot further. A month or so ago, he said, a person who had invested with Bain Capital called his office.
“Harry, he didn’t pay any taxes for 10 years,” Reid recounted the person as saying.
“He didn’t pay taxes for 10 years! Now, do I know that that’s true? Well, I’m not certain,” said Reid. “But obviously he can’t release those tax returns. How would it look?”
Reid is taking his cues on handling facts from ABC’s Brian Ross, it seems. Reid added that Romney’s late father George would be “embarrassed” by his son.
“His poor father must be so embarrassed about his son,” Reid said, in reference to George Romney’s standard-setting decision to turn over 12 years of tax returns when he ran for president in the late 1960s.
George Romney passed away in 1995.
Under Reid’s tenure, the Senate has gone more than three years without passing a national budget.

Wow, Reid’s mob bosses must really fear Romney.
What will the Democrats say next? This is a party that has been on the wrong side of history from before the Civil War. That party has caused great harm to this country, both in terms of race relations (when it was the racist party of the South, and now, when it is the racist part on the coasts) and in terms of the econcomy. The War on Poverty has turned out to be a war for poverty. Now comes Harry Reid and throws manure on no basis at a good and descent man. To be a Democrat is to have a form of mental illness where truth is non-existent.
Harry Reid is right.
Romney’s father would be embarrassed at Harry Reid (“How could such a fool become the Senate Majority Leader? Was America invaded and the criminally insane put in charge?”)…
I’m guessing if he didn’t pay taxes for 10 years it was either because he wasn’t making enough and probably getting an earned income credit refund, or he was taking business losses that wiped out hi liability. Either way, I’d bet good money that it was all legal.
I’m more interested in how Harry treated his insider real estate trading deals on his tax returns.
Frankly I think everyone in Congress should release tax returns for every year they’ve been there. Just so us little people can see how are betters are complying with the laws.
Harry Reid is a disgrace and the poster boy for modern democratic politicians. I do not consider them as Americans who love their country as I do but with different opinions, not any more. You either have to be mentally deficient, willfully ignorant, or just outright corrupt and un-American to be a democrat today.
It is time to choose a side; either you put America first, or you don’t.
About Harry Reid.
Some guy told me he walked in on Harry Reid in the Senate locker room when he was in a naked tickle fight with two male stripper dwarves.
I can’t say that it’s true, but….
That’s how this game is played, right?
I LOATHE HARRY REID.. HIS SON IS INVOLVED WITH THE BAD BOYS IN LAS VEGAS,, HE IS AS CORRUPT AS AL CAPONE WAS.. BUT NO MATTER WHAT… YOU HAVE TO BLAME THE VOTERS… BECAUSE THEY ARE STUPID… AND FOR THIS YOU HAVE TO BLAME ALL ELITE MEDIA FOR THEIR LIES AND CORRUPTION… BESIDES THAT HE IS UGLY AS SIN…
Just when you think donks can’t go any lower they find another way to be disgusting. Welcome to the new democrat party.
the left has flushed the toilet and there is only one way to go
Back when men were men, and women were damned grateful, Reid’s comments would have provoked a duel, or at the very least Rommney would have been expected to horsewhip Reid on the Capitol steps.
I’m embarrassed by Reid. This guy is incapable of running a popsicle stand.
– Stein couldn’t get the source from the whoreson, but ran with the hit piece anyway.
The simplest answer here is that if it is true that it was no one from Bain, but merely someone in government who ransacked records they should not have. We are seeing the future if Obama-style Democrats become the norm–liberal fascism.
Because of our ridiculous, convoluted tax laws, interest payments on debt are taxed only once while profits are taxed twice. Private equity firms like Bain Capitol would therefore leverage as much debt as possible in order to obtain more favorable tax treatment. It’s just smart business based on what the regulations are.
Sounds to me like Dirty Harry is on board with Steve Forbes in advocating a flat tax. That right, Harry?
