A survey of today’s headlines shows that the economy has once again started off a tough day for President Obama.
USA Today — Economy weak in second quarter, GDP grows at 1.5% rate
Wall Street Journal — US Growth Slows in 2nd Quarter
The New York Times — US Economy Slowed to a Tepid 1.5% Rate of Growth
CNN Money — GDP Report: U.S. economy slowed in second quarter
The president’s response? Did he take charge, say the buck stops here, and vow to pivot to jobs (again), focus like a laser beam and do something already?
Nah. According to CBS News’ Mark Knoller, Obama ducked.
Such courage, from our young president. It’s downright inspiring.

Dollars to donuts that 1.5% positive preliminary figure is typically optimistic, and in a few weeks it will be quietly adjusted into negative territory.
Cripes, how is this “news”; he’s been “ducking” his entire life.
Bohemond – clearly, you haven’t been keeping up.
“… it will be quietly adjusted, unexpectedly, into negative territory.”
There, FIFY.
I don’t get it why did Obambus miss the opportunity to tell the reports to “go ask George Bush” or else “That’s what happens when millionaires and billionares like Romney don’t pay their fair share.”
Hard to believe his handlers didn’t see these numbers coming and have an ‘appropriate’ response blaming someone/something else for the poor performance…the Aurora shootings, the drought in the midwest, chik-fil-a’s stand on traditional marriage, George Bush….something. You can bet they’re working on it now though, just in time for the Friday PM documentation dump.
The Duck on TelAviv vs. Jerusalem the Capitol of Israel was more fun.
Obama and his handlers had no reply precisely because they don’t even want to understand the system. That’s not the goal. Other people can understand that, their job is to tap the system to get as much as they can out of it. That’s what “activists” do. They don’t care how other people earn a living, they just want a bigger piece of it.
In 2008 they were counting on the economy to fix itself, because economies always did- who cares how? They’d get the credit for it, while tapping the economy to feed their friends and pet causes.
But in 2010, Recovery Summer didn’t happen. And then it didn’t happen in 2011, and it’s not happening now.
They can’t begin to explain it, because at this point, it would force them to ask “what are we doing wrong”? and they can’t go there. Just like the governments of Cuba and North Korea can’t ask, “what are we doing wrong”?- any problems must be the fault of Those Evil Other People.
“The White House says today’s GDP numbers show the economy is moving in the right direction, but that “additional growth is needed” to replace the jobs lost in the recession.” CBS News
Oh look, the ship of state is not sinking as fast as even our own experts predicted. Give us more money to plug these holes where govt. spending, overregulation, the rich, and lack of consumer confidence have ripped the hull.
An overview of the White House strategy is to put the public sector against the private sector is one of their unique acts of class warfare. Those who do not sign on to our delusions will be punished.
2nd Qtr GDP growth rates? Economics and math are hard or racist or whatever.
Come on, it is much more important that we just make sure no anti-gay marriage chicken sandwiches get sold in Boston or Chicago.
On January 24, 2009, President Obama’s first week in office, there were 133,886,830 people in the labor force. (7.8% unemployment) The week of June 9, 2012 there were 127,048,587 people in the labor force. (8.2% unemployment) That is nearly 7 million fewer people working today in the United States. Unemployment has not dropped to less than 8.1% since President Obama’s first week in office.
On January 20, 2001, President Bush’s first week in office, there were 126,843, 537 people in the labor force. (4.2% unemployment) On 6/5/2004, there were 126,084,041 people in the labor force. (5.6% unemployment) Which means that even after dealing with the aftermath of 9/11 There was only a drop of 3/4 of a million workers. By the end of President Bush’s term, there were 133,886,830 workers, meaning that 7 million jobs were added during the Bush presidency.
He Ducked The Question Because He Is The Lame Duck..That’s All you Need To Know.
