Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) took to the floor of the upper chamber today to defend Huma Abedin against “sinister attacks” by five House Republicans seeking a probe into potential infiltration into the U.S. government by Islamists.
Reps. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), Trent Franks (R-Ariz.), Louie Gohmert (R-Texas), Lynn Westmoreland (R-Ga.), and Tom Rooney (R-Fla.) wrote to the Deputy Inspector General of the Department of State last month asking that he begin an investigation into the possibility that Abedin, top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and wife of ex-congresssman Anthony Weiner, and other American officials are using their influence to promote the cause of the Muslim Brotherhood within the U.S. government.
“To say that the accusations made in both documents are not substantiated by the evidence they offer is to be overly polite and diplomatic about it,” McCain said. “It is far better, and more accurate, to talk straight: These allegations about Huma, and the report from which they are drawn, are nothing less than an unwarranted and unfounded attack on an honorable citizen, a dedicated American, and a loyal public servant.”
The letter alleged that three of Abedin’s relatives have ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. “Never mind that one of those individuals, Huma’s father, passed away two decades ago,” McCain said. “These sinister accusations rest solely on a few unspecified and unsubstantiated associations of members of Huma’s family, none of which have been shown to harm or threaten the United States in any way. These attacks on Huma have no logic, no basis, and no merit. And they need to stop now.”
The senator said that what’s at stake “is larger even than the reputation of one person.”
“When anyone, not least a member of Congress, launches specious and degrading attacks against fellow Americans on the basis of nothing more than fear of who they are and ignorance of what they stand for, it defames the spirit of our nation, and we all grow poorer because of it,” McCain said. “…I hope these ugly and unfortunate attacks on her can be immediately brought to an end and put behind us before any further damage is done to a woman, an American, of genuine patriotism and love of country.”

When, oh when, is McCain going to get out of politics and let someone in who is a true conservative? I am grateful for his service, and am impressed by his time as a POW. But his political stupidity is helping Obama more than straightening out the GOP. And can he take his not really conservative daughter with him?
You should read up. McQueeg was a terrible pilot with an embarrassing record. Now he is simply an old fool who needs to go home and stay there.
I spoke to an old vet. He was a Republican conservative, and seemed rather straightforward and honest.
He claimed, also, to be part to the team that pulled McCain out of Hanoi.
He said McCain was their most valuable asset.
They didn’t touch a hair on his head, and he sang like a bird.
He said that McCain wears a harness to simulate the damage done from ‘jet-planing’. He’s faking it.
Sure makes one wonder, don’t it, who to believe?
When it comes to those inside the government, perhaps we should investigate first and exonerate later.
I know it is not PC (politically communist) to say this, but…if I were ever taken as a POW, I would feel ashamed of myself for it. I guess it is a cultural thing. I wonder if McCain suffers from Stockholm syndrome as a result of his mistreatment by communists for so many years.
“PC (politically communist)”.
Perfect. Just perfect.
We must start using it everywhere.
You know it’s not PC???? How about it’s incredibly STUPID!!!!!!
The man’s plane was shot down. He was wounded severely, back broken among other things, then he was shot by a soldier who found him. What did you expect him to do, jump to his feet and fight them all off, then swim back to the aircraft carrier, knife in his teeth?
It wasn’t a Schwarzenegger movie or something, it was reality. Idiots like you don’t appreciate the sacrifices others make, to guarantee you the freedom you so stupidly and callously abuse.
True but without relevance. He has not served this country well for 20 years or more.
McCain actually thinks he is still relevant?
In all honesty, I WAS wondering how long it would be in this election cycle before he came charging out to give aid and comfort to Obama or his minions.
I’m sure he thinks the press will love him again, if only he could stab other republicans in the back often enough….
Many years ago, based on my studies in International Politics and the Middle East, I was up for consideration as an analyst with one of the country’s intelligence agencies. One of the investigators, doing a background check in my home town, asked at least one of my neighbors if they thought I might be a “Zionist”. (I’d recently spent a few months studying in Israel.) If that question wasn’t out of bounds, how is it that Abedin, whose mother is linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, is assumed by McCain to be giving forthright, unbiased counsel especially when it comes to dealing with the rise of the Brotherhood – a group hostile to US interests – in today’s Middle East?
Precisely, Raymond.
The average police officer/firefighter/EMT and their families, friends and associates undergo far more rigorous background checks than apparently do our nation’s leaders.
Unvetted Obama and his equally unvetted minions occupy the highest offices in our country, but by all appearances, they would be unable to pass the routine screening required for public safety officers.
McCain, yet again, reminding us why so few Americans had confidence in him.
Senator McCain would be of better service to our nation, and the fine people of Arizona, if he would confront the president’s and attorney general’s ASSAULTS ON ARIZONA’S FREEDOMS with the same zeal and candor that he so willfully excoriated our representatives with for attempting to investigate the mooslim bruthahood’s infiltration of our government. Who’s side are you on anymore, John? Are you having a little trouble with your target identification? Did you mistake them for democrats defending holder’s complicity in the murder of Agent Brian Terry? How stupid do you think we are? Honest person who loves her country? WTF? She’s married to Tony Weener for God’s sake….are you daff, man? This is the reason republicans are so flaccid; when have you seen a democrat attack another democrat like that? And for what, another crooked, sleazy, terrorist sympathizing, antisemitic, America hating obama radical? Absolutely heartbreaking – for me.
Well, they say there ain’t no fool like an old fool….Hey Sarah, do you wish you had endorsed J.D. now? I sure wish you had, but I still love you anyway
It just makes me sad to see the senator behaving like this. Being a disabled, combat wounded veteran myself, I have the utmost respect and gratitude for his service to our country…..BUT….he has become such a sell-out to the establishment. Sad. It just makes me sad. And he wonders why he lost in 2008….
John McCain working just as hard as he did four years ago to defeat Obama.
Snork!
3 pointer!
Traitor.
When he dies I will make a special trip one day before I die to make sure his grave is desecrated in a way that will make the news.
When I do this, I will be so old that I won’t give two depends whether or not the ‘authorities’ jail me.
Mc RINO the muslim loving ass needs to not exist anymore.
Mc RINO IS muslim brotherhood infiltration. I hope some Patriotic American does the right thing when TSHTF
….you should be ashamed of yourself for such an idiotic, adolescent comment.
As I commented re the other obnoxious moron above, you’re beneath contempt. The man almost lost his life defending your right to make an insensitive ass of yourself in public. Show a little respect, if you know how…
Looks like the ‘Songbird’ is back in the enemy camp singing again.
Sorry, Johnny, you just burned up your last ‘get out of jail free card.’

McCain: Still putting his nation’s security at risk.
The hell with the Good Huma Man.
McCain would, of course, defend Hillary’s aide. He and Hillary seem to have been on the same track with their Middle East plans and Huma’s family associations would certainly raise questions. If there is nothing to hide, then why not allow things to be checked out. He doth protest too much and cannot be trusted.
I’m searching to find a record of McLame taking to the floor of “the upper chamber” (aka the Do-Nothing Senate) to defend the honor of Sarah Palin against attacks by Congressional members that were “not substantiated by the evidence they offered”! Aparently, what was at stake at that time wasn’t “larger than the reputation of one person”!
I guess that wasn’t “nothing less than an unwarranted and unfounded attack on an honorable citizen, a dedicated American, and a loyal public servant.” After all, Sarah was a Tea Party Patriot and not a Ruling Class Democrat operative working for his good friend, Hilarious Clinton.
Well said….pretty sure Sarah regrets that one, but I don’t want to speak for her. She was in a tight spot and felt loyalty demanded her support. Those are the problems we honest people run into from time to time. This will come back to haunt him in 2016,,,,,,BIG TIME.
Jesus H. Christ I wish this living fossil of the Senate would be put out to pasture. Is there anyone who can unseat this man in a primary?
Apparently Mr. McCain only fights fellow Republicans – he went all out to retain his seat. If he had only fought half as hard against the boy who want to be king we would be much better off.
The Senator must be getting his talking points from his progeny, Meghan …
Perhaps someone could ask the good senator why Huma Obedin should not be subjected to the same scrutiny as anyone else in such a high ranking position. Or would that be a sinister, racist attack?
The amazing thing here is the abject arrogance of many of the posters who don’t think she was checked just like everyone else who has her position. What we have is guilt by association.
Now why don’t you ask Willard who gave him his money when he started Bain if you want to play that game. Oh but then that’s ok in your book. There is a reason people scorn McCarthyism. Unfortunately it have never died with the John Bircher’s nor conservative Republicans.
Please provide some authentication for your comment that “she was checked out just like everyone else.” Otherwise, if I have to choose between supporting Michele Bachmann and Louis Gomert or a disgruntled Ted Kennedy supporter who sees his progressive house of cards collapsing around him, I’m going with Michele and Louis!
I’m waiting for Grover Norquist’s radical Palestinian wife to join in.
Gotta defend the Sisterhood!
Maybe Iranian-born Valerie Jarrett will reach across the aisle.
Too bad the Secret Service walked into Hillary’s Paris room while her face was buried deep in Chelsea’s ‘nanny’s’ lap. Huma, that is. Must’ve been embarrassing.
Gotta defend the, ahem, Sisterhood!
