The Tatler has obtained exclusive video from today’s Fast and Furious protest in Washington. As the protesters, mostly students, chant “Hey hey ho ho! Eric Holder’s got to go!” and “Fire Holder!” the Secret Service shuts the protest down, citing a “suspicious package” that turned out to be something left behind by a tourist on the White House grounds. The protest was outside White House grounds on the opposite side of the perimeter fence.
But authorities did more than merely shut the protest down. As you can see in the video, after the protest is told to move away, a bicycle-mounted police officer tells the videographer that he must stop recording and move away.
Here is a transcription of the videographer’s exchange with the officer
OFFICER: Turn around and go all the way to the white pillars. Sir, get up and walk this way please.
VIDEOGRAPHER: Where am I going?
OFFICER: Sir, stop filming and walk all the way down to the white pillars.
VIDEOGRAPHER: Why do I have to stop filming?
OFFICER: Huh?
VIDEOGRAPHER: Why do I have to stop?
OFFICER: Why do you have to stop?
VIDEOGRAPHER: Um-hum.
OFFICER: I told you to stop, so keep moving.

More: The Daily Caller has some detail on the protest shut down.

Well, everybody knows the cops often support Democrats because of the backscratching on unions….
Tyranny in exchange for job security and benfits.
Free speech for left/liberals is “disturbing the peace” with conservatives.
… … OFFICER: “I told you to stop”
Well, that’s one notch better than: “This guy inside with funny-looking ears told us to come out here and make you stop.”
Fascists. Straight up.
Cops have been pulling this crud all over the US. Especially when it’s their own misdeeds that were being recorded.
Cops are government and will do whatever they are told to do. If your not government you are little people who don’t count. Most cops are what the bully in high school now does for a living. If told to go out and collect everyone’s guns they will happily comply they are not your friend.
About time for Congress to pass the “Police Officer Recording Law” making it legal to record a police officer performing his or her duties, regardless of the situation or the location. Can’t film an officer off duty (normal rules of privacy apply). But when in uniform and/or performing official duties, record. Shutting down of any filming (other than to force the recorder to film the cops good side) is prohibited.
And the cop and his entire chain of command are fired immediately.

@David’s comment: We don’t really need such a law, the 1st Amendment covers it well. What we do need is an end to “qualified immunity” for police officers, so a videographer can sue or counter-charge an officer who is exceeding his authority and does harm – by falsely arresting, or by improper application of force or threat of force to prevent lawful activity.
Now, the real litmus test for those of you incensed about this is how many of you sufficiently support the rule of law to let photographers stand their ground with force against cops who illegally order them to stop recording?
Not sure if you’re being honest, or just a troll.
But the idea behind the 1st Amendment, among others, is that it’s not something the government ‘gives’. It’s something the government is stopped from preventing. They’re considered civil rights.
And wasn’t there a little something, way back in the 60′s, that people willingly went to jail in civil disobedience as protest against laws that overstepped bounds on civil rights?
Unfortunately, it’s going to take more than one Rosa Parks to turn this ship around. Even with the legal precidents for taping as a civil right, per Instapundit’s various links on the subjects.
Listen, first damn thing, and it’s got nothing to do with the taking of video:
People have been protesting in the streets since, like, forever. Since the 1960′s this “Hey, hey, ho, ho …” bit was incorporated as about half the lyrics of these chants. Give it f##king break, people. It’s getting old! You sound old!
The only people that should be chanting “Hey, hey, ho, ho …” anymore should be a crowd of pachoulli-smelling 77 year old nursing home residents marching around the bingo room with their walkers protesting the lack of creamed corn in the early bird special. I would give them a pass, since they are ex-hippies, demented, and just too damned old to think of new chants.
You young people, however, have just GOT TO THINK OF SOME NEW CHANTS! This was disgusting, even though I agree with your cause wholeheartedly. Get creative, young people. I couldn’t watch 18 seconds of this “hey ho …” crap, so I don’t know if the photographer punched out the fat-ass bike cop with his elbow as would have been appropriate, or not. Someone let me know.
Because mic checks, uptwinkles and giant puppets are so much more galvanizing? I dunno, man…you got any good ideas?
’bout time I got a response from one of you young whippersnappers. Yeah, as a matter a fact, I do – let me throw out a few phrases right now from pure rectal extraction:
… lesseee here …
“Let us be clear
the reason we’re here
We’ve got some buckshot for your rear!”
Suck it, Holder! Suck it, suck it.
I mean, it needs some work, and you’ve got to have a good meter. Think of some of the cheerleader chants from back in high school.
“Heave ho, heave ho
toss that bro,
and fret no mo”
No, that one stands on the shoulders of the 60′s chants a little too much (same meter).
OK …
“Brother you’re a sad man, ugly man
gunrunning in the streets, gonna dick up the world one day.
You got Obama-cum on your face, you big discrace,
we’re gonna put you back into your place.
“We will, we will impeach you!
(Ok, get Brian May on that great lead guitar with the Marshall amps)
See that last one’s got a great meter, some good rhyming, but it’s got the drawback of having already been copywritten and sung by the late, great Freddie Mercury.
Give me some more time, young people; I will get you some chants that don’t suck.
BTW, 66chevelle, that stuff you brought up sounds like from that occupiers crowd. Again, there it is just stupid stuff – no originality at all. They are not the brightest LED’s in the panel by any means. I would expect more from the folks in the above video, however.
Yeah, that’s all jackassery…and pretty pathetic jackassery, considering how left has considered itself on the cutting edge of mobbery since mid-twentieth century. But Queen? Really? We could’ve used that to drive Carter out of office, but we’d have been laughed off the quad by new-wavers in 1980. How about a good old cadence call?
Runnin’ guns to Mexico,
RUNNIN GUNS TO MEXICO
Federales didn’t know.
FEDERALES DID NOT KNOW.
Blew up in ol’ Holder’s face,
BLEW UP IN OLD HOLDER’S FACE,
‘Cause the guns he could not trace.
‘CAUSE THE GUNS HE COULD NOT TRACE.
Amendment,
NUMBER TWO,
Amendment,
NUMBER TWO,
HOLDER WANTS TO TAKE FROM YOU!
He can run, but he can’t hide,
HE CAN RUN, BUT HE CAN’T HIDE,
On his watch good people died.
ON HIS WATCH GOOD PEOPLE DIED.
Holder tries to hide his trail,
HOLDER TRIES TO HIDE HIS TRAIL,
Issa’s doggin’ on his tail.
ISSA’S DOGGIN’ ON HIS TAIL.
Fast and,
FURIOUS,
Fast and,
FURIOUS
HOLDER YOU CAN’T RUN FROM US.
I like it! I don’t know if I could memorize the whole thing during the duration of a rally, but I can see where each stanza is a good chant in and of itself. Nice work, chevelle.
There once was a racist named Holder
who thought he was smart as Fox Mulder.
yet his brain in his buns
thought, “hey let’s run guns”
now his scheme is beginning to smolder.
course, limericks don’t hold up to well during protest marches. Possibly, this chant writing takes more skill than I thought, but chanting “hey, ho” ?? Come off of it, people.
Thanks Mel…and you don’t have to memorize the whole thing. It’s simplicity, rhythm and repetition, unlike the Occuponce mic check blather. One guy with a bullhorn–or DI’s voice– calls out the first line, and the marchers repeat it back (ALL CAPS). And I used the term marchers intentionally. Remember way back when “demonstrations” and “protests” were called “marches”? Because groups were actually on the move, in an orderly fashion, toward a certain point both spatial and symbolic. Now everyone just mills around, content to enjoy the spectacle they have created. Walking around in a circle with some cardboard and getting cowed by a bike cop? Ad hoc and poor tactics.
Sure, the Tea Party has good manners. What they lack is discipline and structure. Pick a target plan a route , study it, plan for deviations, stay together and on the move; The faster you go, the harder it is to put together an organized response by either law enforcement or lefties. If you are met with resistance at your goal, be disciplined enough to effect an orderly, tactical retreat while continuing to get your message out.
Have enough discipline to avoid responding to hostility with violence, but be prepared with light defensive measures such as safety glasses and placards which can double as shields against projectiles. Leave the offensive weaponry to the lefties, and march early while they are still doing bong hits in mom’s basement. And as always bring plenty of cameras.
(Let’s see if I can stay in order this time)
(… continued):
Listen chevelle, the “don’t use the other side’s methods – then we will be just as bad as them” bit will not work in this day and age. The opponents of liberty in the US (this includes people from left and right, BTW) don’t care how polite you are, and you are just showing weakness to them when you are; that’s how they see it.
Some videos that make me feel even more embarrassed for the protesters than ones with these old-timey worn-out chants are ones that show the following: A guy gets knocked on his ass by some thug from the opposing side at a rally; the video shows him still so politely saying something like “Sir, you have assaulted me, blah blah” Get up and kick him in the balls. Get a piece of 2×2 from your sign and whack the daylights out of him! Don’t sit on the damn ground spouting out your feelings! It’s just sickening to watch this crap.
The other side will only respect you, and they will only learn from, violence, and enough to make them lie on the ground in pain or limp home.
WWOFFD? (What Would Our Founding Fathers Do?):
- Dress like Indians (oh, too politically incorrect!) illegally board ships (no, no permit!) and throw other people’s property into the ocean.
- Ambush and shoot British soldiers from the woods, against all “rules” of warfare at the time (that’s guerrilla warfare!)
We can’t win this thing with a bunch of pussies, that’s all I’ve to to say about that.
This is a reply to chevelle’s July 4th – 0733 PDT(?) comment (just not completely sure this will appear where I intend it to.):
I agree with all but your last paragraph. I think the last thing needed is safety goggles. Leave those at the lab and bring a (at least) 2 D-cell flashlight, pepper spray and more. You say “Have enough discipline to avoid responding to hostility with violence …” I say absolutely be ready to respond with greater violence.
Now, keep in mind here, I’m not talking about w.r.t. the cops. They deserve it, but that blue line (as described in other comments) will solidify in short order any oaths taken to the Constitution notwithstanding. You’ll end up in a world of trouble, unless your group really has the guts to band together, as they would have in the 60′s. On the other hand, in the 60′s the cops weren’t federalized and militarized as they are today. NDAA might take you away nowadays and your family would never see you again. However, with respect to cop-thugs, here’s how it can be done:
(Great Video, only ~ 2 min. your blood P will go up until 0:35 and the video turns positively heartwarming) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ws-mn3M23dc

What Alan said. We simply need “rule of law”.
Under rule of law, if he falsely arrests you then he is arrested and charged with kidnapping (that’s what an arrest is absent the statutory authority). That he loses his job is a given.
Rule of law is actually easy, but it requires removing immunity from the entire criminal justice community, from cops to judges. The change would be profound and immediate.
When Hitler took over in Germany he had absolute power. There was NO CONSTITUTION. The Weimar Republic and German Constitution was DEAD. All of Hitler’s enemy’s (and former friends who questined him) were MURDERED by the SS and German Citizens were told to “shut up and Obey”. Hitler was the law, and it was ENFORCED by the Nazi Police, Nazi SS and you either obeyed the law (whatever Hitler said it was) or you were DEAD.
Apparently our police have not yet been introduced to our Constitution and the court cases which allow public filming of photographing…. well, he was polite.
We no longer have a Constitution as an operating document for the US Government. Per the Roberts’ Decision, the US Government can do whatever they want to as long as it’s covered under the tax code. So, look soon for a Public Video Taping tax. You’re more than welcome to as long as you pay the tax – and of course a kicker-tax for video taping public servants…

It’s possible that DHS told Secret Service to shut your protest down, but you’re giving the Secret Service a lot of credit. Most likely, it was exactly what they said it was, a “suspicious” package, and they overreacted like they always do. Uniformed Secret Service is barely one step up from the Kapitol Kops (who themselves are about par with TSA), so it really wouldn’t surprise me a bit if they freaked out over a tourist’s camera bag while he took a picture.
Try it again, with more cameras, and see how it goes the second time.
I don’t see much to get excited about here. The Secret Service guy didn’t seem interested at all in what was being videotaped; sounded to me like the usual “move along” patter. Instead of “stop videotaping cops”, I heard something like “stop videotaping so you can see where you’re going when you move along.”
Can we save the outrage for the outrageous? It isn’t as if we are short on things that really do require outrage.
No the cop didn’t understand the question. He didn’t hear the question as first stated “why do I have to stop filiming”. Then when he heard “why do I have to stop” he replied (I think) “I didn’t tell you to stop, so keep moving”. He was referring to the motion, not the filming.
Video recording is just collecting and storing reflected visible spectrum electromagnetic waves. What’s the harm? Oh, sorry, I forgot about Rodney King, RIP. Storing what otherwise can only be recalled from a witness’ memory and explained orally, is much more trustworthy and thus damaging to the reflector.
If the officer was a member of the Capitol Police force, it operates under the Speaker of the House.
OK. Now that that’s settled we can move on.
Video is the antidote to police ignorance of the law and also weakens the defense of the thin blue line…imagine how these public union members would act if they knew you were disarmed!
Great job. Don’t ever forget Brian Terry , Jaime Zapata and the 200 Mexicans killed by Obama’s Fast and Furious guns. Trying to get rid of the 2nd amendment is backfiring on them. We’ll be counting more dead bodies while Obama and Holder are trying to cover it up.

Verse.
Even though Fast and Furious Holder hasn’t read it
If you’re an American , not Jihadi or Hamas he’ll discredit it
The Chief Organizer may not think a hard worker like Robert Krentz a winner
A month after he died he had a good laugh at the correspondence dinner
He wants illegals to be able to vote some day
If they kill American heros like Brian Terry
I guess that’s OK
Semper Fi Brian it’s a shame you had to fight with bean bags
Against Obama’s Fast and Furious bullets
