On the nationally syndicated Laura Ingraham Show today, Gov. Mitt Romney once again told a tall tale about what happened at the Values Voters Summit. Audio here, the relevant part is about 7 minutes in. Ingraham asks Romney if he expects the press or anyone else to bring up his religion in an “underhanded” way.
ROMNEY: I know there are some people who make their decision based upon someone’s religion. And I’m not gonna change that, it’s a free country….But overwhelmingly in our country, the people who run for office have eschewed anything of that nature. And, you know, I think Gov. Perry was wrong to have as an introducer someone who said “Look, this guy you should vote for because he’s one of us and that guy Romney should be disqualified because he’s not.” And when that gets said and then when after that, Gov. Perry said “Hey, you know, that guy hit the ball out of the park,” the idea that we’re somehow, as political candidates, going to encourage the American people to make our selection based upon religion, that’s an idea that is entirely foreign to a nation which was founded with religious tolerance, religious plurality, religious respect. I think that’s the wrong direction for the country and not within our nation’s heritage.
Romney would have a point, if that’s how things happened. But it isn’t and by now he either knows that, or he should. At best, Romney is ill-informed, and at worst, he’s lying. We’re several days past the actual event, and Romney has used his fantasy version of the event twice now, so the possibility that he’s ill-informed is diminishing rapidly. He seems to be rejecting reality and substituting his own. But note what else he’s doing.
Romney is playing the victim card hard, while he is also trying to push Perry out of the mainstream of politics entirely — for something Perry didn’t say, wasn’t said where he could have heard it, and has repudiated. Romney’s behavior here is repugnant and he shouldn’t get away with it. Ingraham owed it to her listeners to deliver the facts on this, and failed.

For ll of his fluff about his business acumen, I think Romney would be another Richard Nixon as pertains to the economy (he thinks government needs to take the lead, rather than get out of the way), and more and more hi stikes me as Nixonian in terms of personal integrity.
All you need to know about Romney is that two of the anti American people in the Obama Admin came from Romney’s Admin. There is no way one can know that and support Romney for President.

Romney is the master at doublespeak. This smear is no surprise.
The “conservative” beached blondes have a fetish for RINO republicans. I stopped listening to Laura 4 years ago because of her fawning over Romney. And, do I need mention Ann’s adulation for Christie and now Romney?
Barack Obama is running on both tickets to ensure his re-election. On the democratic ticket he is running as himself, and on the Republican ticket as this ‘Mitt Romney’ character. How many times do I have to tell y’all, ‘Mitt Romney’ is Obama in disguise?
If ‘Mitt Romney’ gets the Republican nomination, and the two have to debate each other, you will see I am right. The camera will never be on both at the same time, and by taking the disguise on and off quickly to prepare for each shot, Obama will make a mistake…..probably put the ‘Mitt’ wig on backwards or something.
Everyone I talk to says the same thing about Herman Cain; He is hands-down the best man for the job but none of them believe he has a realistic chance. He just isnt an establishment guy. Romney, the definition of a RINO, is being pushed on us because he is very much a member of the political establishment. I am hoping Cain pulls the rug out from under them and gets the nomination.
Said almost the same thing to a friend this evening: the more you listen, the more Romney sounds like Obama.
Been there. Done that. Have the T-shirt, empty bank account and depression-like economy to show for it.
McCain in 2008 and Romney in 2012? Could the RNC be more hell-bent on self-destruction?
The big loser if Romney wins is the conservative movement. Because suddenly he becomes the head of the party of the right as president. He moves the national debate leftward. Just like many Republicans supported TARP to support President Bush, when they claim to be free market people. And when Romney fails with his market meddling, the left will claim that free market policies failed and we should give socialism another try.
To have a tea party movement that takes back Congress and then to pick someone for president who believes in a state-level individual mandate, workouts with Detroit, TARP, and stimulus measures… discouraging does not begin to express the half of it.
unfortunate that Perry is so eager to give tax money to illegals in Texas. shame really. They should pay full tuition.
Practically every state has its ‘residency’ requirements. Here in Oregon, *everyone* gets a pass after one year, so even Chinese citizens pay in-state tuition.
An illegal — one who breaks the law — has to show intent. Toddlers brought to Texas & raised there are residents. The requirement doesn’t apply to their parents, but to the kids who know no other place than Texas as their home.
Perry is not an emperor — the residency bill passed the legislature with only 4 dissenting votes. The citizens of Texas — the ones who actually have to deal with the problem, as opposed to people in Minnesota or Massachusetts — overwhelmingly support the measure.
“behavior here is repugnant”
The only behavior that is repugnant is Perry’s pastor endorsers and supporters. Jeffress, Bryan Fischer, C. Peter Wagner, Mike Bickle, Alice Patterson, etc…..all of them promote vile offensive messages and all are connected to Perry. Why?
Also why do Tea Party conservatives rally around Perry? The TEA party was formed around the repudiation of Obama Stimulus money and Perry took Obama Stimulus money.
When most of the Tea Party people rallied around Perry so quickly and so blindly they lost an authenticity.
At to the point about Romney’s advisor/consultants that worked on Romneycare being connected to Obamacare:
1) Unless these people are endentured slaves to Romney why does it matter? Mitt can’t control other human beings.
2) Plus, it’s a liberal argument. Blaming Mitt Romney for Obama’s actions is like what liberals do to gun manufacturers by blaming them for the murderer’s crime because they used their product.
Perry took stimulus money? A straw horse, wrong.
Gov. Romney speaking outside a power plant during a Green activist rally, “That plant kills people.” His advisors (now working for Obama) made him do it?

it wasn’t perry’s pastor. he did not even know him
Perry’s going down because Romney with all his faults, HAS A BETTER GRASP ON THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION ISSUE! They are here illegally, they need to return to their homes, with their anchor baby non citizen children, NO rewards of ANY kind, no temporary jobs, NO AMNESTY, NO COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM.
Politicians are elected to REPRESENT THE PEOPLE. Seventy percent of us want the borders secured, the fence on the southern border, OUR EXISTING LAWS ENFORCED, those caught here illegally DEPORTED, E-Verify used as the best we have now to assure those working are legal, the illegal employers PUNISHED, and DON’T TRY TO GUILT US AS HEARTLESS BECAUSE WE DON’T GO ALONG WITH LIBERAL POLICIES ON THIS.
If Perry wants to be president, HE NEEDS TO REPRESENT THE PEOPLE..
I have to wonder where you have been or what part of 80% of Texans & 99.6% of our legislatures supported & RAMMED in-state tuition down Gov Perry throat 6 months into his term for George Bush. You Harp on doing what people want excuse me Gov Perry is the Gov of Texas & you can attack him but you sound pretty hypocritical when you attack him for doing just what you “claim” you think a leader should do.
In 2001 things were a lot different but most Texas still support our in-state tuition, that is why it is not repealed. It was VETO PROOF Perry could not have stopped if he wanted-so quit trying to blame him. Also, no where has Perry ever supported Amnesty-he has been dead against it & still is. He has also done more to secure the border than the Federal govt over the past 10 yrs & he is the ONLY ONE on that stage that has a clue what he is talking about on how to secure it.
Rick Perry has been elected over & over in Texas for a reason. He does listen to the people, he always has. He has not always been right, but he damn sure has always listened when the people of Texas has spoken.
Looks like the media is determined to “choose” the GOP candidate – their choice is Romney and the low information GOP voters are going to follow along like sheep.
Visit that Texas border and then get back to us on how you think a fence can be built. It’s an impossibility AND it gives up the Rio Grande to Mexico – we fought a couple of wars over that river. It’s essential for agriculture in the South Texas. We now have Texas land owners between parts of the famous fence and Mexico – cut off from Texas. Texas spends Millions of dollars every year to try and keep the drug war raging in Mexico from spilling into Texas because the US Government won’t do their job – but the folks in Alaska (and every other state) know a lot more about it than those of us that actually deal with this everyday.
That is a very simplistic argument. Off cause They should not built a fence on the river. But the stretches of the border that goes over land should have a fence.
Perry is against a fence everywhere because Texas has a river. What about the states that does not have a river along the border. He is killing his own chances. And he has got no one to blame but himself.
Some of you are showing your RINOness so bluntly. Not to mention your ignorance. Nice TRY JL but FAIL just like your Romney-Gov Perry has said that he supports strategic fencing what he does NOT support is 1200 miles of fencing in rural & often almost unaccessible areas. Also as another poster pointed out if you think Texans are going to stand by & let you northern people cut off our water for cattle & crops your out of your ever loving mind. I suggest strongly that you pick up a geography book before you talk. If AZ-whose stupid fence is falling down & has SURRENDERED land back to Mexico-despite the awesome fence you want & CA who is dealing with tunnels want a fence Gov Perry has never said that they can’t have one.
As for that insane eVerify, employers are against it because its accuracy rate is so low. And if you do NOT hire someone based on the report & it is WRONG (which is like 50% of the time) then you can be sued. No thanks, until the system is working correctly only a lunatic or someone that has no clue about business wants it.
Perry is the ONLY one that knows how to shut down the border. I would say considering how his hands have been tied by the Feds for last 11 yrs he has done pretty damn well at it, at least unlike AZ we have NOT surrendered 1 inch of Texas land.
– any influence with Laura?
