Throughout the day, the most profound element of the debt ceiling slapfight became evident to most, a nagging truth that most of America realized but hadn’t yet addressed with all the play-by-play stealing the dialogue. But it’s there now, with another bill passed and another bill tabled by Senate Dems, and the ruling class Republicans vs. the conservatives is the least interesting narrative. Rather than being the drama of the day, it’s hardly worth a mention.
The Dems have no cards left to play, and not just for this hand. The Dems just have no cards left, and I’m not even sure they know why they sat at the table. What was the best possible outcome for them? A raised debt ceiling, and another tax increase, followed by another week of horrible economic data? The game really is over, the world understands its over, and I think the Dems do as well. They played the “let’s see if the Republicans fold” card, because, well … they were already at the Capitol building. But I don’t see any heart left. Reid may still be scrapping, but I don’t see any heart left.

Ew! Ew! Ew! Ew! Yuk!!
But the media will be sure to explain the problem is the Republicans have been dealing from the bottom of the deck or something.
The European media is already spinning all the story against the evil, “radical” Tea Party. No mention of the non-existant budget, or the CCB or the Ryan plan. Would be funny if it weren’t so sad.
They said the same thing all through 2010 and we know how that turned out.
Whattya mean, the Democrats have no card left to play? They’ll always have the race card!
re: race card. haha. You are right about that. But, like our treasury, it is maxed out. I have a sneaking suspicion that the reason we are seeing a recent flood of news articles that BO is losing support is that the king-makers of the democratic party intend to dump him and run a challenger in the 2012 election. But first they need to make sure that their liberal base is cool with that. They need to eliminate a situation that would create the same type of destructive loyalty that Hillary garnered from feminists in and after the 2008 election. If they don’t prep the battle field to show what an incompetent BO is, then the race card could come back to bite them.
You have to give the democrats credit. They play chess while the GOP plays checkers.
I think even the debate of Boehner’s bill might work to the Republican advantage. We saw a very public discussion of whether to go with one more try with a less than wonderful bill, which had to be sweetened because of the Tea Partiers to get the minimum of support, or stick with CCB and give the appearance of ceding the tactical advantage to Dingy Harry while the Demos sat on their hands as they have through all of this.
There are two ways to go for the USA. One way is small government, personal responsibility, opportunities for self development and less taxes, less welfare. The other way is the big government high taxes high unemployment nanny state cradle to grave redistributive, model.
America grew very strong and wealthy on the first way, Europe grew weak and bankrupt in the second way.
Americans had a choice in the 2010 Mid Term Election and they sent the messages worldwide, which government model they prefer. It was the TEA PARTY that made the greatest impact and it was made very clear:
Progressive big government has failed Europe, and we will go the way of personal liberty, personal responsibility, small government and small taxes.
We will go the way that made us strong.
Forget the Balanced Budget Amendment. I want an Amendment that states that anytime the Government cannot pass a budget (preferable balanced or maybe a surplus) than no member of Congress or the President may receive a paycheck, and this pay cannot be made up at a later date.
You’d think ONE of these Democrats would have had enough of this nonsense from the Left and break away in order to do the right thing. There’s no way these guys can be thinking they’re doing the right thing or that this isn’t going to come back to crush them later. What gives?
