Texas House: No special carry privileges for legislators

SB 905, passed in the Senate, sought to give themselves special privileges to carry guns into restricted areas like bars and high school football games. The House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee successfully amended it to delete state legislators and DPS employees from the list of “special people”.

SB 1581, the higher education finance bill including the Campus Carry initiative, is scheduled to be heard in the House today.

HB 1595, the Range Protection bill, has remained stuck in the House Calendars Committee since May 6. This bill affects the liability of existing shooting ranges by limiting nuisance lawsuits like noise abatement. SB 766, a similar bill passed in the Senate on March 28, has been in House Calendars since May 17.
