Obama’s Insult to American Jews, the Same Day as His ‘Gaffe’ on Poland
The president’s Poland gaffe at the Medal of Freedom award ceremony has got the most attention, but one must also look at what transpired later the same day. After the president finished awarding the Medal of Freedom on Tuesday to various recipients, many of them Jewish, he met privately with a group of Conservative Jewish rabbis and Jewish community leaders. The Israeli paper Haaretz reported that after the president reiterated his concern for Israel’s security, he said the following:
There were some questions directed at the presidents concerning his thoughts on the role of religious leaders in a more civil political dialogue, which then lead to the inevitable question — how does he feels about Israel? Obama joked that Lew always warns him it will get to “the kishkes question.”
“Rather than describe how deeply I care about Israel, I want to be blunt about how we got here,” Obama said, reminding his guests that he had so many Jewish friends in Chicago at the beginning of his political career that he was accused of being a puppet of the Israel lobby.
The answer, as you pause to consider it, reveals the reality of Barack Obama’s world. Let us take the last sentence first. If anyone accused Obama of being “a puppet of the Israel lobby,” it was the same left-wing friends and black nationalists who supported him when they assumed once he got in office he would be an advocate for the Palestinians. We all know that his friend Rashid Khalidi had publicly expressed just such sentiments, and had stated that he was disappointed that the realities of politics had made Obama, once he became president, turn away from promises Khalidi said he had once made.
There is a reason, after all, why The Los Angeles Times, as Roger L. Simon has often reminded us, has not released the video of what Barack Obama said at the tribute going-away event for Khalidi as he left Chicago for New York City and his position at Columbia University. And of course, later Obama’s pastor in Chicago, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, said that “the Jewish vote, the A-I-P-A-C vote, that’s controlling him, that would not let him send representation to the Darfur Review Conference, that’s talking this craziness on this trip, cause they’re Zionists, they would not let him talk to someone who calls a spade what it is.”
Now let us look at the first part of the president’s statement, about his claim that “he had so many Jewish friends in Chicago.” These “friends,” of course, were the kind of Jews that Peter Beinart praises for being the right kind of Jews who were critical of Israel, rather than the wrong kind that support Israel such as the members of AIPAC. They were Jews like the late very left-wing rabbi whom Obama befriended in Chicago, a man typical of all leftist Jews who support every “progressive” cause at home and save their criticism for the Jewish state they purport to care about — if only it takes steps that might endanger its security, but which the leftist Jews living in the United States believe it must take if it is to have their full support. And of course, his Jewish friends included the likes of Rahm Emanuel and David Axelrod, the latter who himself came from a very left-wing Jewish milieu.
Finally, revealing the president’s arrogance and chutzpah, to use the old Yiddish word, he actually told the Conservative Jewish rabbis that “he probably knows about Judaism more than any other president, because he read about it — and wondered how come no one asks speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner or Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell about their support to Israel.” No one asks them about it, although Obama did not pause to consider why no one does, because in their case there is no question about the solid commitment they have to Israel. The president’s record, on the other hand, has included many times at which he seemed to turn drastically away from any genuine concern for Israel’s security needs.
As John Podhoretz quickly pointed out, the president’s bragging is “transparently absurd.” Every single president until our modern age knew more about Judaism from the Old Testament. Harry Truman, to take one example I am most familiar with, quoted from its pages in his Farewell Address in which he reiterated his hopes for Israel’s success. Truman many times told people how familiar he was with the quest of Jews for a homeland from his reading of the Bible. Even Jimmy Carter, despite his current disdain for Israel as a supposed “apartheid state,” is, as Podhoretz writes, “more conversant in the lore of Biblical Judaism” than Barack Obama.
So in one day, President Obama managed to offend the entire Polish nation and the Conservative Jewish leaders he was meeting with. I can hardly wait to see what other people the president can insult before the election campaign officially starts after Labor Day.

Most people are not aware that the integrationist MLK Jr. program was annexed to black nationalism and its ideology as early as the mid-1960s: black liberation theology as enunciated by James Cone. I wrote about that here:
http://clarespark.com/2009/10/31/the-offing-of-martin-luther-king-jr-and-ralph-bunche/. Ron Radosh reminds us of the remarkable chutzpah of POTUS in claiming to be a friend of the Jews. It would be laughable were it not so indicative of a troubled and confused mind, and in this, Obama shares the same views as the anti-Zionist so-called Left.
The funny little side note is that once the black Left found out it wasn’t Arabs responsible for Darfur, but black folks who call themselves Arabs, they lost all interest.
If obama had anything but contempt for non-Muslims and Jews in particular, he wouldn’t have to keep reminding us what a friend of Israel he is.
God help Israel if the muslim marxist is reelected.
He will have much more ‘flexibility’ in his next term (to throw Israel under the bus)since he will no longer have to court the Jewish vote.
Carter use to be the biggest Jew hating president, but obama is in class all himself.
And if God smiles on America and we remove the cancerous pustule currently s(h)itting in the oval office I predict that he will eventually reveal that he has ‘evolved’ and is now ‘for the first time’ a devout muslim.
Roughly akin to celebrating one’s friendships with Vichy French during WWII as bonafides of one’s French patriotism.
Wuddah maroon…
The crux of the problem seems to lie within Obama himself. The quote in the 3rd paragraph is unbelievably narcissistic. Even by political and presidential standards: http://t.co/6e9HDtAn
President Obama remarked that “No one ever picks up a guitar, or fights a disease, or starts a movement, thinking: ‘You know what? If I keep this up, in 2012 I could get a medal in the White House from a guy named Barack Obama. That wasn’t in the plan. But that’s exactly what makes this award so special.”
But come to think of it, I might learn guitar if it meant getting a medal from anybody else but Obama in 2013.
Let’s see, I’ve attended a friend’s Passover seder and my niece’s Bat Mitzvah. I’m practically a Talmudic scholar!
Ah, you’re just the guy I’ve been looking for. Was Abraham a Sumerian? I would ask the Prez, bot he’s busy giving your address to a drone.
the Conservative Jewish rabbis sat there, their thumbs in their mouths, and took it from him. Pathetic.
Some don’t know any better, many more are abject and intimidated, a disgrace.
Worse, there’s a lot who look up to him with love and admiration, yet. My own rabbi, for one. Really.
And then, worst of all, the Jewish hard-left. Enough said.
Come on — that’s unfair. There’s only so much one can say *directly* to a President… in person I mean — especially when one is part of a group. The President is one extremely powerful man — there’s nothing to be gained in antagonizing him in person. That should be saved for an article or letter afterwards. Furthermore, you don’t know how exactly they acted or what they in fact said.
There are no other Rabis?
This reminded me of the famous three lies:
Black is beautiful.
Some of my best friends are Jewish.
The check is in the mail.
A fourth lie: I’m from the government, and I’m here to help you.
Lie #5:
“Of course I’ll respect you in the morning.”
Don’t waste your time. Most Jews, “self-hating’ or not, will still vote for Obama. Israel is not the only issue for Jews.
NOT THIS TIME AROUND !
Do you have any evidence to support that assertion?
WITHOUT HIS TELEPROMPTER HE’S COMPLETELY LOST !
Please stop SHOUTING.
Maybe narcissists can rise to stratospheric heights because there are always enough fools around to assume that there must be somehow, somewhere something in a supremely self-assured character that justifies all the bluster? Maybe the narcissist in the middle of it all is the biggest fool around, thinking that his privileged position must somehow be the just reward for his own genius, as long as we don’t get too serious about finding exactly where is the presumed genius comes from.
So, when things start to unravel, as they have done lately in his efforts to get reelected, the guy starts to insult everyone within arm length, because his inability to recognize his own imperial nakedness necessarily preempts whatever sensitivity for the rest of us mere mortals he might otherwise have been able to fake?
Even Jimmy Carter, despite his current disdain for Israel as a supposed “apartheid state”….
Carter does not consider Israel an apartheid state. He warns that the situation on the West Bank will lead to an apartheid situation there. And he is absolutely right.
Please elaborate. What type of “apartheid” situation do you see developing on the “West Bank”? Here’s what I see: apartheid throughout the Arab and larger Muslim world – apartheid against other religions than Islam, other languages than Arab, other sexes than male. A “peace settlement” for Israel is expected to involve Jews leaving Arab neighborhoods so the sensitive Arab dears don’t have to have Jewish neighbors. Is that enough apartheid for you? Israel is 20% Arab, with Arabs in the Knesset and Arabic an official language. Jews are barred from Saudi Arabia, and from owning land in Jordan. Where’s the apartheid now, genius?
Oh, you mean the “apartheid” of the Rami Levy supermarkets on the West Bank where both Jews and Arabs work and shop side by side? Or the university college in Ariel where Jews and (hundreds of) Arabs share the same classrooms? Maybe you’re thinking of the manufacturing plants that employ both Jews and Arabs – the same ones that would be closed and the Arabs left without jobs if the Boycott folks would have their way.
Carter is no friend of Israel – never has been – and his attitude toward Jewish rights in “Palestine” is, at least in part, theological.
Raymond, it used to be (before 1948) that Jews in the Land of Israel were called Palestinians (and the Jerusalem Post was the Palestine Post). These days, the names have switched. Since the current Palestinians do practice apartheid (to the point that the PA areas are Judenrein) current critics of Israel are just probably confused about who’s called what.
Bravo to both of you — well done! Why gentlemen such as “Patriot493″ come hear, read, and throw out such offhand comments is beyond me. But I’m glad there is such an open door policy — it keeps the rest of us on our toes. And you guys did great.
BTW Patriot — Israel also practices pure “theoretical” triage in their hospitals — to the point where most Israel supporters here in the US think they’re crazy. If an Arab gets injured for any reason he can (and does) get treated in any of Israel’s tier-1 hospitals (so top notch are they that Jordan’s King Hussein used to go to them under cover for treatment).
But the point is that (1) there are both Jewish and Muslim doctors in the hospitals and (2) that even a terrorist will get treated first if his wounds are worse than his victims (in accordance with normal rules of triage). I don’t agree with that, but that’s what happens there.
That’s the diametrical opposite of “Apartheid.” If you’re sane, you’d be compelled to agree.
It’s been pretty much the same for 5 years now with this below-average in everything except ego human, but people are finally beginning to notice. Maybe it takes a Depression for people to take the I’m-not-a-racist goggles off.
The key was and always has been Iran. In Obama worm’s-eye view of the world, the only thing that really mattered was being “loved” by the Muslims and co-existing with the Iranians. Obama thought that he could charm the Muslims and negotiate with the Iranians and has failed on both counts. And what was the price Obama was willing to pay to try and get the support of Muslims and to bring Iran to the negotiating table? It was throwing Israel under the bus. Obama did it as was clearly shown by his horrific treatment of Prime Minister Netanyahu and then saying that Israel could go back to its 1967 borders, which everybody (except the arabs) knew would be utter suicide for Israel. But Obama figured that he if he looked like he was backing away from Israel, then the Muslim world would not only embrace him, but adore him as well.
And Obama was oh so wrong. Relations with the Muslim world are probably worse now than when Obama came into office. The Arab Spring has turned into an Arab nightmare and Iran rejoices in showing us the finger whenever it can. So Obama has succeeded in getting the worst of all possible worlds, a hostile Muslim world and a weakened Israeli ally. Because of Obama’s naive diplomatic skills, he as actually managed to make the world even more dangerous, what with Iran just about to get a nuclear weapon.
These are dangerous times we live in, but the first step we can take in calming things down globally is by voting Obama out of office in November. If the Muslim world, and especially the Iranians, see that we have somebody who not only has some backbone in the White House but also realizes that our only major friend in the Middle East is Israel, then maybe we can avoid the next war. Because wars only begin when people think we are too weak, never because they think we are too strong.
I wholeheartedly agree with you LibertyShip.
BTW, I like your website as well. I’ve been there a few times now.

I’m pretty sure I know as much as Barry, because my Bible has an Old Testament. That’s about the Jews, right?
Hey genius, so is the new testament.
Most Jews will unfortunately vote for Obama. Still, the president probably needs a minimum 70% of their support—or he is doomed. They provide not only money—but also their intellectual talents.
Word is that its close to a 50/50 split. I hope its true.
Saw my very Jewish Doctor today. He told me very proudly ( after ObamCare came up ) that he’s switched parties and is now a wise Republican. He’s joined AIPAC along with his partner, Ari.
He’s revolted by the thought of another Obama term.
I told him I knew he’d switch once he realized he’d been mugged by the liberals.
That is truly phenomenal if that’s even CLOSE to being true! I’d love to know where you saw that. That’s the best news I’ve seen in a week. I cringe every time I think of the percentage of Jews who voted for the man last election. But this gives me hope.
Imagine this scenario:
George W. Bush addresses the NAACP and says: “I know more about blacks than any other President, because I read about them and I have a lot of black friends, love Condi Rice and Colin Powell. Why doesn’t anyone ask Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank and Harry Reid about blacks and their support for the NAACP?”
Which mass media outlet would NOT lead with that story?
Which story covering that statement would not rip it to shreds?
Which non-leftist extremist has Obama ever been close with who is Jewish? How many virulent haters of Jews has Obama been thick as thieves with? How has Obama treated Bibi and Israel? Where is that LA Times tape?
Who put Robert Malley in charge of Mideast affairs…until he secretly met with Hamas?
When has Obama EVER come out with a pro-Israel position that wasn’t watered down with moral equivalency?
I know more than any President about brain surgery because I read about it. I would like to practice on one of them where I know I can do no harm. I have the perfect candidate in mind.
Obama is an expert on Jews the way Castro is an expert on cattle.
I read a hilarious anecdote once in a lengthy biography of Fidel Castro. He wanted to show off a new cattle breeding facility that he had personally patronized and flew a bunch of Canadian cattle ranchers to Cuba, experts in the field. He personally lectured them on the brilliant new ideas the facility was based on. The Canadians listened politely. At the end, Castro asked them what they thought. Apparently not realizing that the brilliant new ideas were Castro’s own – or maybe they just didn’t care – the Canadians were openly contemptuous of the ideas as being ridiculous. Castro was apparently deeply disappointed. You see, from everything I could make out in this biography, Castro had ALWAYS been of the belief that all he had to do was read a book about something and he would be an expert on it. Although his actual education was as a lawyer, Castro has always been a voracious reader and fancied himself an expert on all kinds of things, including agriculture.
Obama seems to be taking a page from Castro’s book in this regard….
In case anyone is wondering, this is the book containing the anecdote. I seem to recall that is somewhere around the 2/3 mark of the book but it’s been a few years since I last read it so I could be wrong. http://www.amazon.com/Fidel-Castro-Robert-E-Quirk/dp/0393313271/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1338523712&sr=1-1
I, too, am an expert on all thingx Jewish. I married a nice girl from the Catskills. Mazaltov, y’all.
Obama has insulted Americans in a number of ways not least in his 57 States comment since his initial appearance on the national stage. Americans include American Jews last time I looked. No hyphen to identify American Jews, that being the special style of Obama and the “Progressives” for whom he is flag-bearer.
Americans are either Americans or they are not. The “Progresives /liberals” within the past half century have sadly successfully Changed this name to fracture the American identity: afro-, hispanic-, asian- etc. Have after this their first shot across the bow of the American Constitutional Republic managed other egregious changes to the laws, the protections, freedom, community agreed values, rectitude and sense of honour of American citizens. American citizens. NOT Jewish- NOT Afro- NOT Hispanic- NOT whatever. All those subordinate identifiers within the larger American melting pot.
The mystery then is why American Jews, reputed among the most intelligent of the population have supported the political party with its destructive ideology represented by this Obama as culmination of their designs over at least this half century..
This man Obama with his flunkeys and troops who have made the American Republic and its citizens laughable in the world. Who is a daily embarrassment to rightfully proud Americans. Rightfully proud until their error in electing this Obama, seen increasingly to be fraudulent, as their primary representative to themselves and the world.
It continues to be mystery after the fiasco that is Obama’s Administration that so many American Jews AND so many American Blacks continue to support him and the groups within which he manages his destructiveness.
Yes, Obama’s knowledge of Judasim is as real as his knowledge of the composite girlfriend in Tales of My Father. He is so narcissistic it is unbelievable. What is sadder still is that those twenty “Conservative Jewish” rabbis are probably all going to vote for him.
To prove that he is not anti-Semite, Obama says he has many Jewish friends. But all anti-Semites always do! It is exactly what they say. Obama has no doubts that being called a part of Israeli lobby is a serious accusation. He finds it funny that his friendship with “many Jews” is a cause of suspicion, disapproval of the “concerned citizens”. The racism of these “concerned citizens” does not bother him. And he tells it to Jews. The guy is not just a racist, he is stupid.
of insults, intended, or unintended
sometimes it’s hard to know which is which
calling Obama stupid is to say his insult is unintended, that he should have known better, but didn’t
like his “gaffe” on Poland, for instance, yeah, right
but the fabled “stupid” Poles aren’t stupid, they’re insulted either way, and are mad as hell
those nebbishe Conservative Jewish rabbis, on the other hand . . .
The story gets curiouser:

What I object to is Obama’s personalization of the issue. Just answer the question objectively. Mr. President: What is our policy toward Israel? We do not care about your personal feelings or your personal history or your own narrative about Israel. You are the president, not some second-year college student trying to discover yourself.
