A few weeks ago, columnist Michael Barone warned readers that Barack Obama was ready to create a “thugocracy.” Barone was talking about the looming threat that once elected President, his Administration would reinstitute the Fairness doctrine and use it to wipe conservative talk radio off the air, as well as force internet sites hostile to his policies to counter each critical article with a supportive one.
As if he wanted to confirm Barone’s harsh prediction, the Obama campaign suddenly announced that in the few remaining days of the campaign, they were removing the reporters of The New York Post, The Dallas Morning News and The Washington Times from the campaign plane. In their place would be journalists from Essence and Jet, two African-American monthly publications. Not only would the latter two be depended upon to offer fawning stories about Obama, by the time their articles got into print it would be two months after the election.
Despite disclaimers from the Obama spokesman, the reason was clear why the three press outlets were banned. They were all papers hostile to Obama and had endorsed John McCain for the Presidency. To get a place on the campaign plane, their papers had reserved space way in advance, and had paid giant sums to guarantee seats for their reporters. Yet when last minute coverage was critical, their people were pushed out.
This may seem like a minor story, and indeed, Saturday’s Washington Post had not one word about this development, although it was a front page story in the competing Washington Times.
It may not amount to much. Perhaps it was simply a matter of the campaign having too many demands on it for space among different news outlets. Yet anyone who thinks the choice of removal of three who were known opponents of the campaign was accidental is simply not reasoning clearly.
Kind of like the McCain campaign keeping journalists off McCain and Palin’s planes?

Barack Obama has benefited greatly because of the color of his skin. Too many guilt tripped white ridiculously go out of their way to give him the benefit of the doubt.
I have consistently begged people to pretend that Obama possesses blue eyes and blond hair. We hear far too much of the “Bradley effect.” The reality is that there are probably at least ten white people who are desperately trying to prove “I’m not a racist” for every one who refuses to vote for Obama due to his dark complexion.
Well, looks like Obama is FINALLY catching up to Mc Cain here. Though it may pain some of you to learn this, Mc Cain stated when the campaigns began that reporters who wanted to get the “good seats” would have to follow the rules, or be isolated. This happens at rallies where Mc Cain uses the Secret Service to keep reporters at bay. Look it up for yourselves if you don’t believe me. The reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine would not just effect conservative radio, and TV, it would effect EVERY part of the media. Reporters would be bound to offer rebuttal time, and they would simply refuse to do certain stories. But like they say in Journalisim School, “Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.” That used to be a joke. Now it is the mantra.
If I could vote in the Presidential election, which I can’t, I would vote McCain/Palin. I do point out, however, that every American President prior to the 44th President “benefited greatly because of the color of his skin.”, which was white.
Obama is shooting himself in the foot. good. his narcissistic lifestyle doesn’t lend well to ‘differences of opinion’. I am voting for McCain, not because i am a racist (which I am not, and have never been) regardless of what the moonbats want to call me, but simply because McCain is what this country needs. we know well of his deeds and his life. Obama is an enigma. We have no access to his school transcripts, grades, extra-curricular acitivities, besides the ones that he has distanced himself from during the current election process. I have been for years, complaining about the left using ‘free speech’ as a way to shout down, in large numbers, those who disagree with them, in turn violating the free speech rights of those who have a difference of opinion. If Obama becomes president, don’t be surprised if free speech is perverted into “you have the right to speak freely, as long as you agree with everything i tell you to” which is already the M.O. of the liberals and media.
After an exchange with a liberal Dem friend (supporter of Hillary), I realize that my favourite, conservative commentators have missed the most important thing about this Obama person: He is a very smart, classy patent-medicine pedlar.
So arguing with his ‘policies’ is really a waste of time. When he wants Joe the Plumber to ‘spread the wealth’ like a socialist, he REALLY wants Joe the Plumber’s wealth for HIMSELF, (and maybe his Chicago friends who are not currently in jail.)
So, how will he deal with the Hope and Change of the African American underclass? By making sure that their local leaders get a few crumbs from the White House’s head table; and attending a lot of great splashy events, so that the rest of the Poor can admire him and Michelle on TV (kind of like the serfs thought that if only the Tsar knew about their problems, all would be well.)
As to the eco folk who are worried about being fat, well, they will be thrown under the bus as soon as the corn growers lobby raises its head in Congress.
As to Congress? He will not bother, he will not be able, to control that crew, which will in effect spend the next 4 years galloping off in all directions.
As to Iran, Putin, etc: well, he has Powell at his side, soothing America with nostrums about ‘strengthening the UN’, and promoting a League of Starving Nations… all the while assuring America that all that stuff is really, none of America’s business…
To be fair, McCain’s camp has booted two op-ed columnists this year. One was Maureen Dowd. Can’t really blame him there.
Anyway, I’m not so sure I wouldn’t do the same. That said, I wouldn’t do it just before the election, as I don’t need another distraction just now. Infomercial? What infomercial? What about your decision to boot…?
It hints of overconfidence. His staffers are getting big heads. (I’m sure this was a staff decision.) This is the big problem with O. If he wins, you can expect to see a lot of subordinates to flex their muscles to feed their egos.
We have K-Talk radio and it has conservative announcers and seems to broadcast even-handed news, maybe it is even Fox news but they said the McCain campaign barred two reporters. I am just saying what I heard.

I find this story an interesting indicator of what we can expect of an Obama administration.
And, as a result of it, I asked Rick Moran about his ‘dedication’ to Obama as ‘his president’, should such a disaster occur at the polls this Tuesday….barring the possible ‘save’ from courts and such over illegal ballots/voting fraud.
The question I put to him in his earlier comment was along the lines of what would Rick do if Obama decided to silence him as a ‘critic’ by cutting off his access to the internet or seizing his computer equipment for investigation on suspicion of ‘subversion’.
I’ve yet to hear/see his response to that sort of scenario. And I have to wonder if he ever took an oath to….

The number one reason for the current economic crisis is due to the fact that Democrats literally forced lending institutions to provide mortgages to minorities possessing poor credit histories. McCain simply becomes unglued when confronted with any issue dealing, however indirectly, with race. I still think he will win the election—but if he loses—it will be due primarily to his politically correct inclinations. The greatest threat to Western Civilization may very well be white guilt. We are often inhibited by the subconscious conviction that white people are a cancer on the Earth.
If the American people vote this deceiver into office then they will have chosen their own executioner.

Evidence please! Provide the name of a journalist that was authorized to travel with the Republican President Elect and then thrown off the plane. Besides, if McCain or Palin did that they would be able to fly around in a Piper Cub, since ALL the journalists are smearing them.
Now, McCain did the same thing to Dowd, but Dowd was writing these insane articles about how McCain cheated on his wife, how he was having sex with a lobbyist, how he was doing all sorts of things that he wasn’t. The op-ed reporters were writing terrible terrible things. They were probably lucky the plane was on the ground when they got kicked off. Harry, I sincerely hope you are right that the media will start dismantling Obama after his election. I fear, however, the opposite will happen. He will control them, and they will be even more flattering and supportive than now, and any of them who don’t fall into line will be dismantled, as you say. It’s essentially Obama supporters who run the media at present. It worries me greatly, for a government-controlled media is an enormous threat to freedom.

Senator John McCain was just aired on c-span from Peterborough New Hampshire and he was great!
Senator Joe Lieberman accompanied him and his wife Cindy along with Tom Ridge and several other well known favorites like Red Sox pitcher Curt Shilling who introduced the Senator and gave his stellar praise!
The reason I mention John McCain’s town hall here, is relevant, John McCain took a number of unfiltered questions from a learned and inquisitive crowd. He spoke candidly, was detailed, and full of pride. He was honest, forthright, and exhibited unique leadership qualities. He didnt shy away from any questions. He didnt read from a script or a teleprompter and spoke with compassion and knowledge. I saw my president or the man that should be president. And thunderous applause filled the hall when one audience member addressed John McCain as President McCain!
Side bar: I doubt any of the alphabet cable channels will air that! And if Fox News was more on the ball they would. But they are not.
At the town hall meeting Senator McCain talked about what he has done in the Senate and what he will do. He answered questions on issues that have been all, but been ignored by the mainstream press: (1) what to do about voter fraud, (2) the plan to fix the all encompassing problem of illegal immigration, (3) how to repair the economy and keep people in their homes with mortgage aid, (4) and how he intends to win the war on terror and keep America safe and secure the border!
Barack OBama hasnt answered these questions, he’s ignored them and wasnt even aware that a family member in Boston has secured public housing and has stayed after their visa ran out – like so many others have.
From his quick but well thought out answers, I could deduce that Senator John McCain is prepared to be president of this great land right now. He is capable and truthful and understands how to answer a question no matter how direct, how potentially irritating, or tough…he did it in New Hampshire and it was clear from the reaction of the audience that he is a true leader!
John McCain doesnt hide from the press or banish them, he doesnt have anything to hide like a birth certificate, or his school records…he is a man who knows right from wrong, a man that has learned from his mistakes, and a man who will do the right thing, like he did as a POW when no one was watching. May John McCain prevail – our country’s fate depends on it!

Terrence, I wouldn’t be so sure. These folks are what are known in moderate conservative circles as “bedwetters”.
It wouldn’t be too much of a surprise that they’d pick that reason, at least publicly, as an excuse to vote for McCain.

I’m in the military, and the thought of Obama as my Commander in Chief is terrifying. Thank goodness I’m eligible for retirement, because I won’t serve a man that has no military experience, a clear dislike for the military, and expects his “people” to follow him on the premise of “hope” and “change”. How about clear, humble leadership based on attainable, measurable goals? Clearly, that’s a concept that’s beneath the messiah.
The reporters kicked off the plane are just a prelude folks – just wait until this man has the power of the Presidency to wield … and he will be able to wield it without restrictions thanks to a completely incompetent Democratic Congress.
Be careful what you ask for … you just might get it.
There’s a difference between a journalist representing a newspaper and a columnist. McCain booted Dowd, an opinion columnist, while Obama booted journalists reporting for the newspaper, because those newspapers endorsed McCain. McCain didn’t boot all those liberal lamestream media journalists because their papers endorsed Obama.
Let’s see now. The New York Post is a tabloid. The Washington Times is owned by Reverend Sun Myung Moon. Don’t see too much wrong with the Dallas Morning News. It’s probably no coincidence one of the reasons they had to give up their seats was becausae the editorial sections endored McCain. Seems to me the Obama plane jus wanted to throw out the tabloid trash along with the Callas Morning News.
Funny. Not a word about how the McCain campaign has isolated reporters from interviewing Sarah Palin and kicked off reporters from their plane.
In the end, who cares?

Consider running for political office. You’re clearly grounded in good values, persuasive and articulate. A leader needed in these perilous times.
We desperately need good men like you serving in this arena. Men who know our enemy and will have the courage to remain strong — it’ll be our greatest challenge in the years ahead.

Isn’t Obama for change? so if he does the same as McCain and Palin is he then copy-catting…….or really rallying for change
Lets make sure we understand. They where removed from Obama’s plane but they were offered seats on Biden’s plane. Surely not the same thing, but a reasonable compromise. Access has to be spread around. And in fact it might be argued that not being on the plane gives the reporters more distance from the candidate and so they are better able to report independently.
Painful for the reporters involved, but hardly prevents them from reporting.

These comments are pathetic! Most of you have got to be the most unintelligent people alive. Anything different from your way of thinking is BAD, UnAmerican, and worst! The problem is our country is in horrific trouble and was run by the Republicans for 8 years and they ran this country into the ground. That seems to be alright with most of you. . . just let them keep doing it. Get a clue or maybe a brain would be better. Fear is horrible thing. . . .we are all scared, but don’t incite riot and fear in a time we all need to pull together and prove how much we all love this country and want it to survive. I’ve heard nothing that has made me feel safe with any of you around. Everything is devisive and reeks hatred and fear. Who loves America?
