The Real Debate: The Good Father vs. The Abandoned Son
Forgive me for rehashing Wednesday night’s debate yet again, but some of the postmortems impel me to do so.
I’m not talking about the comical excuses for Obama’s failure like the poor fellow who thought Mitt Romney was carrying a crib sheet and then had to admit it was a handkerchief. Or the well-known massage enthusiast who argued the difference between the candidates was due to the Denver altitude as if this were not a presidential debate but an abruptly scheduled NBA doubleheader.
No, I’m talking about the more serious explanations for the president’s incompetence – that Obama was either over-confident (and therefore unprepared) or bored or both. Many have explained his body language that way, not to mention his meandering answers.
I doubt the president was over-confident, nor do I think he underestimated Romney.
I have quite a different explanation.
Barack Obama was afraid. In fact, on a certain level he was petrified.
Now I admit I have been making my living most of my life as a novelist and a screenwriter, so I may be no more than “creating characters” here, but consider this:
What we have before us in these debates is an almost archetypal confrontation – between a man who was and is an exceptionally good father and a man who was deserted by his.
Good fathering is the story of Mitt Romney’s life. He has five sons who are, by all accounts, devoted to him and vice-versa. These boys grew up with a father who, although wealthy and successful, worked like a demon, doted on them, and apparently devoted an extraordinary amount of time to charitable work, in which he also involved them. Indeed, I’ve never heard of a politician who did anything quite like it.
Almost the polar opposite, Barack Obama’s father abandoned him twice and then ended up an irresponsible drunken victim of multiple car crashes. This sad behavior precipitated a search by Obama that brought him in contact with several father surrogates, notably Frank Marshall Davis and Jeremiah Wright, that it would be hard to brand as anywhere near satisfactory. (Davis was a pornographer and about Wright the less said the better.) No Mitt Romneys there.

Good essay. After seeing 2016: Obama’s America, I do pity the sad, lost little boy who was Barry growing up. But remembering the woeful puppy is no use against the slavering dog on your doorstep. We must remove Obama from office and let him continue his journey of self-discovery without political power. I hope he finds the father-figure he truly needs eventually, but he can’t do that as President of the United States.
L Fisch, agreed, but you are being way too kind to the Radical/Islamist-in-Chief.
While the POTUS had a sad childhood, it is entirely beside the point, now that he has the power to destroy the great nation of America. To be sure, Mitt Romney was raised in a normal/moral home, hence, he set a great example for his children.
It is Romney’s normalcy which makes him an attractive candidate, even if some of his policies are not to everyone’s liking. But on the whole, this is a man who inspires trust.
As to ‘The One’, see this – http://adinakutnicki.com/2012/08/12/the-wizards-of-oz-behind-barack-hussein-obama-pulling-his-strings-making-sure-he-stays-put-this-is-the-real-question-commentary-by-adina-kutnicki/.
Therefore, Obama Gotta Go!!
Romney’s normality is the reason most Hollywood people despise him. With some exceptions, Hollywood people are manifestly abnormal.
Twisted, even.
Precisely! Hollywood has hated the “nuclear family” for years and has done it’s best to destroy it, and frankly will never ever stop until it has. So of course Romney makes them sick, and a guy raised in just the sort of family they trumpet is their guy.
Adina – Link whoring is okay …… sort of but stop being lazy and learn the HTML necessary. Here let me help. Here is how it is done:
How to create links in an HTML document
[a href="http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_links.asp"]How to create links in an HTML document[/a]
Now, replace [ with ">" and ] with “<"
See it is easy.
You are welcome.
And BTW, Roger, none of this is new. Those of us paying attention had this scoped long ago.
R Daneel, me thinks you are having a case of blog-envy…or perhaps you are an Obamabot troll. Either way, have a nice day.
Looks like my post gave you a thrill. And for that, I am grateful!
You really should refrain from responding to such criticisms. Your usual manner of responding exposes you in ways that are not flattering.
Until you started the “link whoring” and then responded to the many criticisms of it (mine included), I had a high opinion of you.
You have changed that.
You are such an iritating person, just like PJ Media.
This is certainly not an original observation, but George Soros has to be one of the string-pullers.
just image having to go through life with more than one name
But I thought dysfunctional people were supposed to be “fun”….
Your little piece here is full of bias – as an example this statement if False!! “Most of what Mitt Romney has done, including graduating simultaneously from Harvard Law and Harvard Business, is an open book, while almost everything about Obama remains purposefully hidden.” Really, so both of them went to Harvard Law but Romney is Open book. So what is hidden? I will tell you what is Hidden – Romney and when he left BAIN and residency in Utah and they claiming is was Mass for when running for Gov. Said he left Bain but signed and wrote on several legal docs to the SEC he was still CEO of Bain. But who cares about all that. I live in Mass and lived in Mass for 15 years, including all the years before, during, and after Romney was Gov. He FAILED Mass – FACT. If you can’t run a strong state like Mass and you LOST 40,000 manufacturing Jobs, lagged the country in job growth during very good times, raised taxes and fees on the middle class (over 180 fees), how can you run the country. He had almost NO accomplishments in 4 years expect Health care and for that he got 40% of the money from the FEDERAL gov and raised taxes the Middle Class. Look it UP, all FACTS, I and millions of fell Mass residents lived thru 4 crap years of Mitt!!
Hey, Eric. Shuddup and sit down.
Eric, I disagree with this article, too! Obama is a moron. That is why he lost the debate. When he sat on the couch with Letterman a few weeks ago he didn’t even know the National Debt. The debate was the equivalent of the little boy who shouted, “Look, the Emperor has no clothes!” This time, Obama’s own performance screamed, “Look! The President has no intelligence!”
Hmmm. I lived in Utah when the Olympics were in trouble, and the news was full of the story about bringing in some guy from Massachusetts to fix things. There were lots of reports about him, and what he had done in…. Massachusetts.
Sorry, you fail. Romney was a legitimate Massachusetts resident.
Interesting. Last I looked at the state’s numbers manufacturing output went up 20+ percent while he was governor (using fewer and much more productive skilled labor since the capital markets were able to finance automation – and I suspect less union featherbedding was tolerated) – while he was significantly reducing a deficit. Granted, state employment went down, as did union membership. Which reminds me that just like every regulation is a pre-made purchasing decision for the public and our businesses, every government employee is a pre-made hiring decision. i.e. each should be justified with the same rigor that any business would decide to hire another person into an “overhead” job category – but we seldom consider this for either regulation or the government workforce.
I usually read essays on this site that make me angry, get me mad… This one made me incredibly sad.
My brother said something similar during the debates. “Obama keeps trying to get close to him, to agree with him. Why?”
Now we know.
And I think Romney understood this, too, Roger, whether on a conscious level or not I am not certain.
I’m referring to the moment in the debate when he told the President that he was misrepresenting his tax plan by saying: “Look, I’ve got five boys. I’m used to people saying something that’s not always true, but just keep on repeating it and ultimately hoping I’ll believe it.”
Your essay has me wondering if Romney might have sensed at some level that he was dealing with a man who needed some fathering. If that was what was going on there, then it was a very perceptive and compassionate way to call B.S. on someone. I don’t think Obama should have ever been President, but on a purely personal level I feel some compassion for him. As for Romney, having someone with that level of perspicacity sitting across the table from the likes of Mr. Putin would let me sleep at night.
“I don’t think Obama should have ever been President, but on a purely personal level I feel some compassion for him.”
Don’t. Just don’t.
When a person puts himself in an important position that he knows he is woefully inadequate for, he loses any call he on compassion for his failings. This is the man who murders his parents and asks for mercy becasue he’s an orphan.
“When a person puts himself in an important position that he knows he is woefully inadequate for, he loses any call he on compassion for his failings.”
Check. Would an impostor brain surgeon or bogus bridge architect get sympathy?
Exactly. Did anyone feel sorry for Hilter? He was also abandoned by his father and look how he turned out.
ED..excellent post! well stated.
I think it was too personal and belittling to be compassionate. Fair game in debate, of course, and I’m okay with it.
But the father angle is very interesting because that makes it much more effective. Maybe Romney did perceive that subconsciously.
And here’s a quote from Dreams from My Father:
That makes Romney a father AND grandfather who can’t be bamboozled, unlike the real ones.
I’ll betcha Romney is not overconfident either. It wouldn’t surprise me if he has psychologists and other experts on retainer who’ve researched Obama thoroughly and have scoped out his weaknesses the same way the Allies strove to research and analyze ol’ Adolf during WWII.
That may well be why Obama doesn’t dare aim below the belt when he’s sparring with Romney personally, because he knows Romney has ten ripostes ready for every groin kick. Trouble is, he has no ideas. Body language analysis and rhetorical tricks aside, during the debates Obama spewed the same stale old tripe of “millionaires and billionaires”, “roads and bridges”, “investment in education”, “100,000 new teachers” and acted like he hasn’t already been in the Oval Office for 3 1/2 years already and so on and on. He also resorted to his old trick of filibustering (ie. of droning on and on in an endless flow of words, hoping we will all forget the question) and Lehrer did not call him on it, besides using the stopwatch. Romney DID call him on it and he was flummoxed.
I’m also agreeing with those who believe he and his inner circle of Rasputins (Jarret, Axe, Plouffe) were much more shaken up by Tucker Carlson’s revelation of the clips of the 2007 and 2002 Angry Black Man rants than they let on. Keep in mind that Obama won the Baby Boomers by implicitly promising redemption for their racial guilt complex. That’s been blown out of the water and he was terrified of baiting his white opponent rather than vice versa.
Frankly, I’m a-tingle with anticipation as to how he’s going to try to play the next round. If he gives into his rage and goes all Chicago Thug on Romney, he must know Romney will happily let him rip his mask off in front of the nation. He also knows that Romney will have an answer ready for every trick he knows. I’ve watched liberals debate and their bag of tricks is a shallow one. Against a knowledgeable opponent who knows their tricks and can play jiu-jitsu they are meat on the table. Getting violent and spewing the usual threats and obscenities are not an option for our little Barry.
I submit the reason Obama keeps spewing the same old tripe is because he has not done his in-office homework. He cannot rebut facts because he knows no facts. Briefings? “Nah, I’ll skip them.” Executive summaries? “Boring. I just don’t care about this stuff.” “How about a quick game of horse? I need the practice. I’m only half a Michael Jordan.” And there’s the being Prez ain’t hard: “I’m pretty good at it.” Good means coming to work at 10, getting a nice lunch break, leaving the Office at 2 for a round of golf. “That’s how them business people do, ain’t it?”
What you are speaking of is the Dunning Kruger effect. Put quickly it is that those who know the least of a subject think it will be easy to perform a task. Those who know the most about a subject think it will be difficult to do the task.
It explains leftism to a tee.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning–Kruger_effect
Amazing how “what comes around goes around”. Obama wanted to transform America and now democrats want to transform Obama even more.
The MSM has carried Obama on their collective back so much and for so long that his legs atrophied and he fell down flat on his face when he had to try and walk on his own. Or if you would like it put a little differently, Obama is like an astronaut who has been in a weightless state orbiting around the Earth for so long that he can’t stand up unaided in normal earth gravity.
Perspicacious observation. Great point.
If it happens the second time, there will be a panic like none ever seen before. The media may go collectively insane.
Bet the farm that they are scheming every way conceivable to prevent it.
Now that we have seen Romney do it under the most extreme pressure imaginable, it seems likely that he will perform similarly next time as well. He isn’t the type to get cocky and rest on his laurels. I expect he will work even harder and be even more prepared the next time.
and obama can’t possible improve a D- to even a B in two weeks. Can’t happen.
He can if the debate is rigged, and he knows the questions beforehand. Breitbart or Daily Caller had a story the other day on a conference call between leading reporters (including Andrea Mitchell) and the Obama campaign. The reporters discussed what questions should be asked in the next debate, and how Obama could make Romney look bad.
It’s all stagecraft. The town hall format (planned for the next debate) was INVENTED by Clinton’s bunch because it enabled pre-scripted questions from plants pretending to be ordinary citizens. Obama uses frequently with his SEIU and Acorn hucksters and their DNC-prepared signs. How can Romney win when the questions, judges, and key audience members are fakes, and the major media covering the event are working for Obama?
That won’t exactly be a big surprise to Romney, and he doesn’t have to answer stupid questions designed to make points for Mr. Affirmative Action.
He will have 45 minutes of time, and he can use it in any way he sees fit.
The abundant evidence is that Romney has supeior ability to plan and prepare. I find it unlikely that he will be blindsided.
He should brush off planted questions with good humor, state his plan, turn to the Con Man, and ask HIM a question.
Example, “No, i’m not opposed to contraception, but when contraception is readily available at very low prices almost everywhere, involving the federal government in distributing taxpayer-funded contraceptives is unnecessary and potentially dangeraous since it is just another way to make people dependent on governemnt. Now, mr. president, since you are so keen on forcing taxpayers to give unnecessary things for free to people who don’t need them, my question for you is whether you think taxpayer-funded contraception is a more effective way to control women than partial birth abortion, which you voted for four times in the state legislature of Illinois.”
That, right there, was effing genius. Seriously. I just hope it goes down that way, it would be too awesome.
the town hall will probably be full of plants like this:
Moderator Candy Creepy Crawly picks a bloated , fat headed ,blond haired guy oddly wearing a Groucho Marx nose and glasses.
“we go now to Myth Cratthews from Washington DC, do you have question for Governor Romney?”
“Yeah I do why are you a racist rich pig who should be shot? I hate you. Answer that Mormon boy ” (starts screaming incoherently as a stain appears on his pants)
Crawly- Uh… now we have a question for the brightest most all round wonderful, magical world leader in the history of every universe ..we go to Hollywood California …
You should pray that your suggestion happens.
As the previous respondant said, it will be much more subtle than that.
But it doesn’t matter. As long as Romney maintains good cheer, brushes off obviously planted questions, continues to advance his plans, and continues to challenge Mr. Needs a Helping Hand, then Romney will score another knockout.
There is no evidence whatsoever that Mr. Affirmative Action will prepare or has the ability to respond effectively without a teleprompter. On the contrary, there is abundant evidence that Romney will work his ass off, not rest on his laurels, and go into any forum with effective strategies and tactics.
(and anybody who has read posts I’ve written in the past should know I’m no Romney psychophant. He was probably the last Republican I wanted as our candidate. But I can still recognize his talents, despite the fact that I think that most of his plans and policies are like tepid tea when a Hoover dam of espesso is needed.)
I’ll leave the psychobabble to others, personally, I think that Obama was severely constrained because he couldn’t just lie without being challenged.
He’s a con man & was faced with exposure so he had to abandon most of his BS.
Without the BS, he can’t talk.
Agreed. I don’t think a ‘real father’ would have made a difference anyhow. Obama is just the self-involved guy that he is.
Two points.
One, I think the guy is a sociopath.
Two, he’s a sort of chameleon hiding who he really is, the image we’re allowed to see is phoney but the ”real” Obama wouldn’t be saleable.
True. A self-involved sociopath. The ‘real’ Obama is the fake guy pretending to be a Chicago African-American speaking to the faithful at Hampton College in Virgina..
Yeah, during the debate Obama was like a chameleon on plaid.
ha ha ha! thanks for the laugh. Envisioning the chameleon from the Tick cartoon: “can’t . . . do . . . plaid!” That describes Obama in the debate to a T. Too many differing views to pander to all at once.
Best comment of the string, and there are loads of good ones here.
I agree that Obama is a sociopath. Romney is all the things Obama would like to be but isn’t…..even with all the help he has received.
Democrats nowadays, as opposed to Democrats of yester-year, do not think being a good natural parent is necessarily a worthwhile goal to pursue. Heck, liberal women don’t even want to have children anymore – it cramps their style or something.
No, I don’t think Obama is in any sense conflicted between the two father-figures he knows – his own father and Romney the father of five sons. He has long made his choice. It is on record that Obama hates Romney – hates in a visceral and personal way. Far from being driven by his inner demons to pluck out his own eyes, he would like – really really like – to pluck Romneys eyes out.
Scary. The liberal armies will be coming for Romney-Ryan with extreme prejudice. He must stand firm, like Horatio on the bridge. For, the conservatives don’t have much of an army to defeat the barbarian hordes. In romney we trust.
And what is it you think would drive such hatred in a reasonably intelligent, successful politician. I mean, I don’t know that he’s ever even met the guy. And he’s decided he hates him? In my book that’s much more reflective of unresolved issues than a calculated assessment.
I think that, also, Obama, whose intellect is average at best, knew that he was debating a man who really is very, very, very smart. No way to fluff your way through this and I believe that on some level the egomaniac Obama knew this.
a) Romney is white
b) Romney is smarter than he is
c) Romney is richer than he is
d) Romney has a wife who actually loves him
No armies on the right? Did they repeal the second??
Agreed. Have you seen the latest Remington ad? For the model 700R?
Says “Over 5,000,000 Sold. The world’s largest army ain’t in China”
Other American manufacturers are Springfield Armory, Ruger, Winchester, Sig Arms, Smith & Wesson, Charles Daly, Colt, Kel-Tec, Rock River Arms, Mossberg, Kimber, Benelli, Kahr……
Well, you get the idea. 80,000,000 gun owners in the US.
“The American public is the largest standing army in the world” was an often-heard remark in our family home, and its import wasn’t lost on any of us.
Even better, Sun Tzu says:
“When your enemy is mad enough to s**t Twinkies that is when his judgement is fatally clouded”
I truly hope Obama gives into his rage and rips his mask off. His “nice guy” image is basically all he has left. Romney knows this and is banking on it.
Bingo.
I don’t know….before Wed, I thought he was just a pathological liar. And certainly, I don’t doubt that he is a liar, but not so sure about the pathology after seeing the debate Wednesday, I’m actually starting to believe that Obama may not even be smart enough to even KNOW which of his ‘facts’ are true and which aren’t. He looked so uncomfortable up there because he was only able to spout the talking points that his media handlers have been feeding him all along and when Romney countered them with the persuasive REAL facts, he was just like a deer in the headlights because it probably made him start questioning what was real and what wasn’t. He couldn’t counter-counterargue Romney’s counterarguments without starting all over with the pre-memorized media talking points because there is simply NOTHING else up there in his little head.
This guy really truly is a massive fraud – the largest con ever pulled on the American people. He’s nothing but a media creation, and so much so, that you would not be too far off to suggest he’s a manchurian candidate, albeit one whose strings are being pulled by the internal enemies among us.
My take on Oblahblah exactly. The reason he came across as so lifeless and unconvincing is because he didn’t know the issues, he didn’t know what he was talking about. You could see when he kept repeating the talking points his handlers had drilled into him that he kept losing the thread. He really seemed not to know just what he was responding to — in other words which talking points he was supposed to use at any given time, which is why so many of them ended up being so garbled. There were times when I genuinely couldn’t figure out what the guy was saying.
No telemprompter? It appears that Oblamer just gave up and said, “OK, no debate then.” And that’s what happened: Mitt Romney was prepared and gave fact after fact to support his policies and Zero just gave up. It was pathetic.
I can’t help but wonder if Obama wants out, that he figures this “gig” — which he was put up to by his puppet masters — is up and he doesn’t want another four years. There are rumours of a $35-million house in Oahu Obama’s friends are buying for him; he seems to prefer playing golf and basketball to prepping for the presidential debates; maybe Oahu and unending golf and basketball games beckon.
He sure seemed to have given up the ghost on Wednesday night.
I want to take slight issue with the characterization of Obama as a media creation. He is the object of mass media worship, certainly. But the creation is much more sinister. He is the creation of the far left. The question is, did the the molding begin in college, or not until Chicago, where he was recognized as the “acceptable” black candidate, as Joe Biden so aptly described him. He himself admitted in an unguarded moment that he is only a “blank slate” upon which others project their perceptions of him. Either way, the nation is in peril.
My thoughts exactly. Thanks for posting.
This.
Obama is a dedicated Marxist who actually believes all of this garbage.
Most of them do.
I increasingly tend to the view that Obama is shallow and uninformed. I don’t mean to downplay the danger of his policies or of the (now-collapsing) cult that was created around and for him.
I think there are a few simpler explanations for the performance. Obama wasn’t prepared. And borrowing from a post on one of the threads here a few days ago, I think he was profoundly distracted by Fox’s release of the 2007 video. Hannity and his guests did a very effective piece of attack work with that video.
It’s also possible that Obama just realized from the start that he was outclassed, that Romney is smarted and much more knowledgeable – and that he would jab and thrust at every opportunity.
Hi Larry.
A lot of politicians are uninformed & shallow, perhaps most.
But how could he be unprepared? He’s been president for 4 years, he supposedly deals with these issues on a daily basis. Theoretically, he should have facts, figures, & examples mastered.
Compare him to the CEO of any reasonably-sized enterprise. This level of incompetence would not be tolerated for very long.
Hi back. No, I think he was unprepared, or just frozen. It’s happened to me during parts of exams and job interviews, and my mother says I’m smarter than Obama!!
Pay closer attention. He’s not the acting POTUS, Valerie Jarrett is. He’s more of a Chauncey Gardener. He doesn’t have the foggiest idea what’s going on with the government, because he’s not involved in running it.
My take exactly! He was ‘up against it’ and knew it in the first minute. The town hall setting will be no friend to Obama – just look at some of the town hall style campaign events he’s now holding. Probably to practice up for the next debate – trouble is BS is BS and he won’t be able to spew the lies he does at the campaign rallies. The day after getting admonished by Romney about that 5T dollar tax break BS he’s back at it – saying Romney is going to give the rich that 5 trillion dollar tax break.
Stupid is as stupid does.
Roger: I like your premise about the missing father however I think its much simpler than that – Obama is simply lazy – has average to a tad above average intelligence – and is so enamored by his own bullshit that he thought just showing up would have Romney quaking in his socks. Now that he knows Romney isn’t afraid of him he’ll have to try a different tack. I’d look for him to attempt to filibuster Romney – its the only thing he knows. Review some of his pressers for reference. He answers tough questions with a blunt ‘we’re looking into that’ followed by ‘next question’ – the softball questions are followed by 10 minutes of lecture – as if those soft-ballers are important.
The problem with Obama is he is the delagator-in-chief. He gives his overall goal and then leaves it up to surrogates to fill in all the blanks.
In the debate he couldn’t enumerate his plans for the economy–indicating that it was so detailed that you had to go to the website to see what it was. I knew in that minute he didn’t know what was on the website. Someone else had generated the policy details, someone else had posted it to the website. His involvment beyond stating come up with a plan was nil I am sure. He doesn’t know the plan he only knows where it is going to take him if it works right.
That is why he doesn’t get involved with deetails or working across the aisle. The end is important, the mean are not. He has other lofty things to think about–let the less lofty deal with the details. He got caught being resonsible for the policy results without having any idea how it got so bad.
He couldn’t delegate the debate performance so he had to show up as the empty chair himself.
Yes. And this is why he will still fall flat on the next debate, which is supposed to have more of a focus on foreign policy. People have said he’s much stronger on that topic, whereas Romney’s is clearly the economy. But I disagree- he’s not strong on anything- hi surrogates have done all the work.
Great God!! If he thinks his debate performance on economic issues stunk on ice you ain’t seen nothing until we get to foreign policy. It doesn’t matter if planted town hall audience members throw him softballs. Romney will thrash him from Benghazi to Cairo to Aleppo to Baghdad (and break Tegucigalpa over his head for good measure). Then Romney will belabor him with the complete lack of trade agreements signed during his administration.
And that’s just for starters.
Obama has so far been allowed to float over the rubble of his foreign policy because the MSM has lain underneath him, frantically blowing with the last of their influence. By the time this foreign policy debate is over, Romney will have loaded him with his own sins like Marley’s Ghost.
“Compare him to the CEO of any reasonably-sized enterprise. This level of incompetence would not be tolerated for very long.”
But, O’s incompetence is exactly the reason why he’s been able to be manipulated by his puppet masters, why he’s the Manchurian Candidate. He’s easily manipulated because he can’t counter facts with other facts. He doesn’t have any. He’s been groomed, cosseted, protected, and fed talking points on his trajectory to the top and as long as he’s been able to have his teleprompter handy — or his handlers nearby to counter any contact from “the outside world,” aka reality — his honeyed voice and brilliant smile in the empty, well-tailored, suit have sufficed.
Obama was unmasked on Wednesday night and, I have to admit, it was painful to watch. I’ve never liked him, I sniffed a fraud right from the beginning, but there were times when I actually felt sorry for him. Those feelings didn’t last very long, when I think of the damage he’s done to the U.S.A. and the lies he’s told but watching him fold the way he did was shocking.
The fact that Mitt Romney is a very decent human being and a good father showed. He could have ripped Obama apart, he was so much better prepared than the POTUS, but he didn’t. He showed respect for his office and though his facts were rapier sharp, his delivery wasn’t. There were times when Romney was almost gentle with the whooped POTUS.
I think Obama was convinced that he was going to debate the “straw man” he and the liberal media have been constructing over the last 6 months. He convinced himself that he knew Mitt Romney. When he faced the real Mitt Romney he was flabbergasted that Mitt actually had a grip on what most of the serious issues were that are effecting the US today and knew that the “0″ was the perpetrator of the lion’s share.
I guess freedom of speech does not exist on PJ Media.
Hey!
The comments here are always…..at minimum…..freewheeling.
Is that statement about free speech here tongue in cheek or foot in mouth?
Given who the original coder for this site was, nobody should be surprised that it hiccups and burps randomly. It happens to everybody. Don’t be a crybaby.
I’ve never been censored here. And I’ve said some pretty stupid things.
Oh Rob thinks PJTV is “irritating”(see w-a-y up at the top)…he must get confused easily.Probably thought he was going to Huffington Post and ended here – where there is sanity and common sense.
I consider Obama a shape shifter like out of a science fiction movie. Pushed and pulled by his bizzare upbringing he may have become the perfect reflection of what people want to see but as to who is behind the mask? I doubt if Obama knows himself. All the more likely in my book he actually wants out and would prefer retirement in Hawaii to 4 more years of lies and illusions.
The multi-million Hawaiian beach house has already been selected, if not bought.
I don’t know, Roger. My take was similar to Bob Woodward’s.
He looked, acted and performed like Tiger Woods after getting caught, his game collapsed because of some inner turmoil. He knew he was guilty and was going to be judged and exposed.
While Tiger’s one time greatness cannot be denied and Obama’s is almost entirely hype and media construction…it is nearly impossible to perform when you are inside your own head. You can’t recapture the rapture…when you believe you are a fraud. A guilty conscience needs no voice.
Something Obama knows is true and has been hidden from view, perhaps a TON of information and vetting that has never taken place…is now in somebody’s hands and either they are threatening to tell the world, or Obama fears they will. He lives almost entirely on image. If that image gets shredded, he has nothing to fall back on, there is little substance.
I’ve heard and read many things, some of which are relevant to the Presidency, some not.
1)He is about to be exposed on the credit card/foreign money fraud which took place in the 2008 election as well.
2)He knows that the failures in Benghazi and his skipping of intel briefings will be linked.
3)Fast and Furious is not going away.
4)The media can no longer cover for him and when he turned on them, stopped doing press briefings, SOME of them decided to actually do their job…not for the benefit of the country, but in a showdown of egos.
5)Russia, China and the Mideast didn’t bend to his will or buy the hype. They chanted against him and burned him in effigy. The charlatan was handed a mirror and he can’t look at it and he can’t look away. So, he looks down.
6)A number of deaths at his church were suspicious and were tied to an alternative lifestyle and the relatives of the deceased may be claiming that Obama knows something about those deaths.
7)The “internals” of both campaigns show an entirely different picture than the media has been reporting.
8)Maybe the LA Times was contemplating releasing the hostage tape.
There is much to hide. And Obama gave off the impression of someone who wanted to crawl away someplace. He knows what it is and he wanted to close his eyes, avert his gaze and not get caught. I don’t think Romney touched on it, because Obama came out the next day…almost relieved.
Oppo research is a dangerous thing. Obama has lived by that sword. He looks very much like a man who does not wish to unsheathe it now.
The foreign election financing is a good bet. I read articles on a few different sites – or ‘blogs’ – about this. Some quoted real people whose credit card info had been stolen and used for ‘contributions’ until they called their credit card info. Some donations from Gaza were proven, and now he is getting a massive surge of donations again..it is something that, if tied to the campaign or the President, could cause..prison.
It’s not just foreign, it’s the fact that any anonymous donor can donate by buying a prepaid card and donating under a fictitious name. They can donate up the the limit 1000 times or more if they chose. There’s no limit to the amount of money that one can funnel to the campaign this way anonymously.
What makes this particularly outrageous, and this was well known in 2008, is that the campaign has to specifically disable identity checking, and pay a higher fee to the credit card company for the ‘service’ of not checking identity. This wasn’t an accident. And Hillary Clinton’s campaign didn’t do this. Neither did McCain’s, or Romney’s now. There is no doubt that this is deliberate policy.
This was all known in 2008, but the media wasn’t interested. Maybe it’ll be different this time, but it’s not clear why they would be.
“This was all known in 2008, but the media wasn’t interested. Maybe it’ll be different this time, but it’s not clear why they would be.”
There was no chance that Holder’s DoJ would ever be interested in this. Romney’s might be, although he might follow a “mercy rule” and let the crooks off after the landslide.
The loss of a father, the indoctrination by a mother and so on may all and probably did contribute to the psychological dysfunctionality of Obama. But that is irrelevant. The reality is, that Obama, as a clinical narcissist (and that’s not just a mild case of egoism) is unable to function in the real world. He exists only within a virtual world, a world of his own words – and these words have one function.
To create a cocoon, a fictional world, where he is in control of others. If Obama cannot control others then – these others don’t exist. Obama has no interest in facts or policies or programs or ideas or theories. Facts and theories aren’t open to any tinkering, they are outside of being open to manipulation and misinformation. That’s why he can’t handle a debate or press conference where he must answer questions, repeated questions, rather than preach or pontificate or joke on the late night shows.
He has no hesitation to ‘writing up’ new ‘facts’ for remember, the real world doesn’t exist for Obama. Only his words exist, therefore, there is no need for what he says to have any reference to reality. To us, this is known as pathological lying. Obama can get away with this tactic on the View, on Letterman, on the late night shows. But he can’t do this in a debate with someone knowledgeable like Romney.
Obama’s reaction to such an attack, and he would see it as a personal attack, would be to retreat into a silent rage. I can see the point of Simon’s considering that this retreat would also be based on fear, and Obama’s psychological pathology means that if he feels he has no control over the situation and over the other person (Romney) then, he is ‘empty’; he has nothing left, for all there is to Obama, is his capacity-to-control others by charm, lies, megawatt smiles and soaring rhetoric. But what will instantly replace this hollow fear, is rage.
He is indeed shallow and ignorant of economics, history, political theory. And indifferent to the facts of the real world both before and during his time as president. So, he can’t handle a genuine debate and analysis about these issues.
The next day, Obama was back into his virtual world, preaching from the campaign podium, closed to questions and faced only with adulation and cheers. That’s his venue. He leaves all policies and programs to others, refuses to sit in and work on such analyses, cannot handle dealing with others as equals or even as experts – for he rejects others as equal to him and most certainly can’t handle anyone as an expert. Remember, Obama has always said that he does everything better than anyone around him – and that includes everything from military, economic, fiscal, foreign affairs..to speech writing.
The Town Hall ‘debate’ will be more his style, for the questioner from the audience won’t rebut Obama’s word-filled, fact-empty answer as Romney did, and will instead move into a state of adulation.
Excellent. Obama lives in a world of straw men and sycophants.
Yes. As I’ve said elsewhere:
OBAMA IS LIKE ANDY GRIFFITHS AT THE END OF “A FACE IN THE CROWD”
He’s all alone listening to an applause machine.
I’m told that Narcissistic Personality Disorder is triggered early in life, before the age of 5. And the kind of chaotic childhood Obama experienced is often a catalyst for it, since it’s really a kind of coping mechanism to manage confusion and self-doubt (by means of massive denial). So instead of it being “irrelevant” compared to his narcissism, the upbringing might indeed have helped caused it.
I agree that Obama’s chaotic upbringing, his abandonment by not only his father but also, essentially, his mother probably caused him to move into a narcissistic personality disorder to cope with it.
What I mean by ‘irrelevant’ is that it is incurable and that we, the people, have to cope with it. Obama certainly can’t cope with it; he’s entrenched in that disorder. If a person with his psychological dysfunctionality is left within a small local community, such as that of a lower level lecturer or community organizer, he can do minimal harm because the circle of people he affects is small and above all, people can leave his domain.
But put someone with that disorder into a position not only of great power but, above all, one where he cannot control all events, and cannot control all people with whom he is in contact – and the psychological pressures of such an inability-to-control, become overwhelming. He will move into constant emotional manipulation, misinformation (aka he’s a pathological liar) malice, vicious attacks (and he does this via his surrogates), denial of freedoms, attempts to control and reduce freedom of as many as possible.
I consider that Obama’s attacks – on the wealthy, on ethnic groups, on businesses, on the middle class, on race – are all symptoms of his need to reduce the power of individuals in this land. His focus on increasing the ratio of people dependent on the government by food stamps, social services etc, are not only to increase his electoral base but to reduce the free power of individuals and render them pawns of government.
I consider also, Obama’s insistence on personally selecting ‘Who Shall My Drone Kill Today’ is a truly pathological action. This personal selection of ‘who to kill’ is not the duty of a commander in chief and betrays, to me, a malevolence and even sociopathic destructive ‘joy’.
I can think of another President in my lifetime who had a rather chaotic upbringing and that was Pres. Clinton. Yet he was able to compart that kind of disruption and still deal with day to day decisions. He had clarity with enough Bubba in him to get him through. Clinton is not perfect in anyway but we saw what he could accomplish when he had to make decisions. Obama couldn’t make a decision if he had to do it to save this country. Then again I do not feel Obama wants to save this country.
ETAB, if what you say is true, and I have a tendency to lean towards it, then the next three and a half months might be dangerous. This is someone who was brought up short not just in public but in front of millions (if not hundreds of millions) around the world. Having constructed a very carefully built reality and see it demolished has got to put an edge on someone. I know it’s small beans but think of how people react when resume padding is found out. Or an extramarital affair, or even phony military service. And I know these are no small things but compared to the Presidency? They HAVE to be devastating. How does someone cope?
“I consider also, Obama’s insistence on personally selecting ‘Who Shall My Drone Kill Today’ is a truly pathological action. This personal selection of ‘who to kill’ is not the duty of a commander in chief and betrays, to me, a malevolence and even sociopathic destructive ‘joy’”
The Strelnikov character in “Dr. Zhivago” didn’t come out of thin air; there’s a Comrade Strelnikov just waiting to get out of a Helluva lot of lefties.
This is all speculation (which doesn’t mean some of it can’t be true)except for #7 above. Polling results are being massaged to make the race look tight, but the internal polling from each camp doesn’t lie. Mitt Romney knows this, and he has alluded to the fact that his own data set indicates a far different story. Dick Morris knows it, too. Mitt draws confidence from the conviction that he’s out in front, while Obama can only flail about in the knowledge that he’s doomed. Obama can’t bail fast enough to save the ship, but he can’t abandon it either. If he looks defeated, it’s only because he is. In fact, the MSN has come to the same conclusion. Check out the cover for the latest edition of the New Yorker.
Guilty feet have got no rhythm…
That may be it, he’s acting like John Edwards just before the National Enquirer brought down the axe.
Roger, it isn’t Barrys search for a father figure that’s tragic. What’s tragic is that 58 million Americans thought Barry was a father figure.
You are absolutely right, Glenn. I wish there was a way to put my Obama supporting neighbors, and one close relative especially, on the psychiatrist’s couch in order to determine the underlying reason and cause for their almost insane devotion to their idol. If it weren’t for the fact that their devotion could get this pathetic creature re-elected and destroy all that the rest of us hold dear then I wouldn’t worry about it. But it is a threat as great as a plague and deserves to be addressed as such. What is the weakness in the character of so many that they will live in a constant state of denial to the extent that they have in many instances enabled the rise of monsters who have ultimately destroyed their very existence and that of all around them? That, I believe, is the biggest issue of our time.
My concerns exactly!
Right! I don’t think we understand this kind of collective projection very well at all – for all our social science. As an American of a certain age, I recognized Obama’s draw in the 2004 convention speech as tapping into the collective frustration of the left at the double assassination of the Kennedys. But I had grown up so I didn’t fall for it. When asked by a left wing Democrat friend in 2007 what I thought of Obama, I said that he just didn’t have the experience. And that takes no brilliance to see that. Anyone, left right or center, simply looking at his resume would see that it is preposterous to think he is qualified for the job. It is his ability to catalyze projection that is so powerful. I think what happened for many of my generation was that instead of the Kennedy saga playing out in imperfect human space with some success and some failure, they were catapulted by assassination into archetypal space. The left carried that loss forward, and I suspect imprinted it on their children – both personally and collectively through the education system. That is why the college educated journalists swooned. Remember how hard they fell in love after the essentially meaningless Iowa caucuses and had that moment of genuine doubt when Hilary won New Hampshire? It didn’t last long! The draw was irresistible. He was indeed the one ‘we’ had been waiting for, and too many fell for him hook, line and sinker. He was going to lower the oceans and heal the planet! This is not the realm of the human, it is the realm of gods and archetypes. At the risk of offending my fellow Christians, the Obama phenomena was the End Times of the secular left – their Rapture. Those whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad. What is in danger of being destroyed here is the country, and we are all, left and right, going to have to pick up the pieces. Sooner. Or later.
They certainly felt rapture. And because they’re basically deluded, they got a cheap poseur instead. Some of them have acknowledged that they were “had” — not so much by O but by their own need for rapture. But millions will still vote for him. Some will mount last-ditch defenses of “The One’s” right to reign.
More accurately, they’re searching for a Jesus figure.
As long as he’s a nice secular Jesus of color who hands out lots of loaves and fishes. And don’t forget the beer. And the gas. And the rent money.
Don’t forget the phones!
I think you may have something there! As many people of faith have a picture of Jesus in their home, I have heard that those on the left have pictures of Obama. I thought that had to be exaggeration until I was at a rabid liberal’s house to return something. I could see through to the kitchen and there on the refrigerator was a BIG picture of Obama! (the irony of it being that he chastises those who would revere Jesus). No pun intended…Heaven help us!
Barry is no father figure. He is Mack Daddy, pimping you out so you can show how much you love him.
“I’m talking about the more serious explanations for the president’s incompetence – that Obama was either over-confident (and therefore unprepared) or bored or both.” Actually Mr. Simon, Obama is just plain incompetent. It was not over-confidence or boredom, he simply is in way over his head. That does not necessarily make him stupid, but whatever intelligence and talents he does have are absolutely unsuited for being President of the United States (or even operating a lemonade stand). Mr. Obama is best when all he has to do is speak. Even then, he needs a teleprompter to make him coherent. Maybe in his next career he will become a very successful book narrator; possibly the best ever.
I’ve heard many explanations of Romney’s facial expression while looking at Obama during the debate. Here’s mine:
Romney was thinking to himself, “My God, this guy is even dumber than I thought.”
Completely agree. Which made it difficult if not impossible for Romney to attack. He may get over that, but he really doesn’t need to. He towers over Obama on any dimension that matters, as anyone who wasn’t still besotted could plainly see.
Bingo!
I don’t agree with you about the father stuff re O-Rom. What’s true is that, of course, O knows he’s standing opposite one who’s worked harder, has more experience and is more knowledgeable and charitable … he does know that … BUT …
O’s been encountering many others of similar to Rom personal character — Like Bankers and Bond-Holder representatives (of GM and Chrysler) — And he’s shown no respect for them whatsoever — certainly no fear — or the kind of personal identification you mention. Because … they are the OTHER … the one’s O was taught to despise. The enemy. The one’s who get automatic rejection and who … don’t count. Whose “testimony” and “ideas” don’t count. The one’s who don’t “know” what it’s important to “know” … who hang with the wrong crowd … and are part of the greedies and the “crazies.” He chose Jeremiah Wright very deliberately because of who Wright IS.
But you know what that is less important than? I live in Florida. The past week I’ve received three … so far … huge, shiny, colorful — with photos of grannies and families — hard paper, over-sized, O campaign mailbox stuffers warning how Romney-Ryan were going to destroy medicare and health care/insurance for the next generation. With quotations (warnings) from AARP (who I’ve read have demanded O not use them anymore). These were all very scarey against Romney-Ryan, and I can see how they’d affect a lot of people who are on the fence.
In addition to that, I’ve received no less than three phone calls from the O campaign, from very nice young people calling to convince me to vote for O. (I tell them I haven’t made up my mind yet, and then try to explain to them why O isn’t good for the country. They just go blank when I ask them how deducting $700 billion from Medicare won’t result in cutting it back. They go blank and then on to the next topic, as if I’ve said nothing.) Three calls, so far.
And — nothing — from Romney.
I wonder what the Romney campaign is doing? I think they could have Florida if they worked at it. (It was the same during McCain’s campaign.) I’m going to call them tomorrow … but this isn’t good.
==============
I don’t agree with you about the father stuff re O v Romney. (Though Romney did mention his sons once during the debate — that they say things (implying as O does) that aren’t correct, and he has to correct them (as he did O.)Interesting. Maybe Romney had the same thoughts as you.) What’s true is that, of course, O knows he’s standing opposite one who’s worked harder, has more experience and is more knowledgeable and charitable … he does know that … BUT …

Whose “testimony” and “ideas” don’t count. The one’s who don’t “know” what it’s important to “know” … who hang with the wrong crowd … and are part of the greedies and the “crazies.” He chose Jeremiah Wright very deliberately because of who Wright IS.

Sorry for the double — due to lateness and tiredness — sent both drafts instead of just second draft — by mistake.
I live in FL now also and my experience has been the exact opposite re the campaigns.
First, I was visited last week by Romney campaign workers polling the neighborhood. I’m in my seventies, a life long Republican and have voted in every election since 1960 and it was the first time I ever was visited to solicit my vote.
Second, I am deluged with Republican campaign mailers and phone calls.
Perhaps it is because, for the first time in my life, I made a contribution to GWB’s 2004 re-election campaign. I then started making annual contributions to The Young College Republicans because my grandchildren were at and getting to that age.
As for the problem with BHO I check the “All of the Above” box.
Aqua-
respectfully, may I say to you what Andrew Breitbart said in his last speech (paraphrased):
in this election, do not ask what the candidate can do for you – as k what you can do for the candidate.
There is no doubt that something distracted Obama. I read today that he thought he did fine until he watched the review of his performance and then realized how dismal he actually did.
Only after seeing himself did he change game plans and decide to go on the attack in his game plan? Thank goodness he has Axelrod to point out all the “lies” that Romney allegedly made that Obama couldn’t point out for himself during the debate that Obama is now going to expose himself …
Romney not only out performed Obama, he got into his head. In some way that we are not privy to, behind the scenes, Romney masterfully manipulated Obama and sent Obama a million miles away from that debate. I give Romney 100% credit for that. That is the kind of man we need leading America. that is the job of the President in dealing with foreign policy. Being one step ahead of the people he deals with. Getting in their heads.
The next round of debates (not the VP) will be more interesting because Obama will just be UGLY about it, expect him to be very ‘UN-presidential” – I think that there is barley room for Obama in Obama’s head, let alone Romney as well.
The “nice guy” image is all Obama has left at this point. If he goes all Chicago-thug in the next debate, well? His hard-core myrmidons will be running through the streets cheering and jumping for joy then wondering why no one’s joining in.
The Truth:
USA in not a Greek story but A Moses story leading to a Jesus story. Leave the Greek story to Europe I believe the Europe converting to Christian and of course USA had a romance with Europe but was glad they were FREE of the pagan Nephilim and all the fallen Angels becoming demons not that the demons could not enter as we see with this Samyaza demon that enter Mitt Romney in his 47% speech taht lives on in enterity but it was nice to see Mitt romney Repent over his speech to the Nephilim possessed class but people can not get this out of their mind and believe he only repent to become The King of Babylon
God had Moses kill all the enemies and God had David slay the enemies 10,000 fall on his right and 10,000 fall on his left but Moses was not allowed to enter the Promised land and David was not allowed to build the holy Temple of Moses but now we enter the Jesus age
USA had the Moses age with revolt , Civil war killing of many Indian tribes then it got worse in the 20th century so now we enter the Jesus age
Jermiah Wright his hatred of the Babylon is understandable since Bablyon made his people THE SLAVES. but with the Jesus age heaven comes down to earth and not just an image as we see in the Moses age but the True Heaven thus a man such as Obama with no father can become like Jesus and have a heavenly father to heal him of all his wounds and become a good son whereas Mitt romney the amn I suported for years will not enter the promised land figure of speech because of his bending his knee to the demon angel Samyaza
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samyaza
and his casting his treasure with Ayn Rand worshippers and it is good to see him repent now but he fail like Moses failed and like David failed but amybe he was meant to fail justy like Moses and KIng David?
Is this what I’ve heard referred to as “speaking in tongues”?
No, not speaking in tongues, just several bricks short of a load.
Sorry Mr. Simon,
I have a different take than you do. This is what I view –
The Complete Fraud vs The Passive Replyer
The larger tragedy is the role of the MSM, aiding and abetting the Lefts’ obsessive need to tear down a decent, generous, loving man. If Romney cannot be looked up to as an admirable role model for our youth, then we are lost.
I’m wondering if they had Ostupidhead wired, and somehow it didn’t work. Pure Axelrod.
He sure did look lost.
That would explain the bags under the eyes. Burnt components and unvented smoke.
It was clear to me that when Obama ran against McCain that he was mostly talk and no depth of knowledge. Remember when he was trying to explain Obamacare? Everything he said about it was just hype with no depth of actual studies to back up his claims. Remember the “If you like your doctor you will be able to keep him” lie? Remember when he was campaigning in ’07 he said that if we all kept our tires inflated and had tuneups we could save as much as all of the offshore oil wells produced? Remember how no one in the msm said WTF? Remember when he saw some of the Memorial Day heroes in the audience? Remember when he was in a MLB game booth and was asked by one of the announcers who were some of his childhood baseball heroes and what was his favorite team. He didn’t answer because he was stoned during his childhood and couldn’t have cared less about baseball. What all this shows is that the entire American scene to him is a stage that he commands where ever he goes and facts are not necessary. Romney just changed the script!
Ahh yes, the inflated tires. That was the week Paris Hilton gave her two cents on the campaign and I realized she was smarter than Obama.
As usual race is off limits. The simple fact is that blacks, up against a white male as alpha as Romney, know they are inferior and resent it. All of Obama’s body language, the unwillingness to look at Romney, the inability to resolve fight or flight, all of it pointed to a deep awareness of inferiority and a murderous unresolvable rage at the dominant white who brought his inferiority into high relief.
And yet, if Obama had been debating Allen West, we most likely would have seen the same result. So it isn’t that black candidates are inferior to white ones … it’s that *Obama* is inferior to several of the players on the GOP bench. If in Obama’s head that translates to black/white, that is his problem insofar as it’s not reality but the inside of his head that’s messed up. Unfortunately this becomes *our* problem b/c Dear Reader happens to have his finger on the button, and 69.498 million nimrods voted to give him that kind of power.
Lt Col Allen West can stand up to anyone without flinching. He should have been the first black president. What a mensch.
+1
You will never, never see any signs of inferiority exhibited by LTC Allen West. He makes alpha look like omega–no, like omicron.
There’s a recent video of West standing up to a (white) journalist who was yelling at him about his statement on the new BLS stats. West was completely, totally unflappable — told the guy “if you would stop screaming in my ear, I could answer.” And he took command of the debate.
West has a leader’s temperament and wisdom. He’s the kind of man you hope is nearby when something goes wrong. And the Dems hate him for it.
I just enjoyed watching the CNBC interview to which you referred. With his command of actual facts, Lt. Col. West demolishes the silly little man, as he does almost every time he is challenged with superficiality and demagoguery.
My only regret is that far too few of the citizenry today are alert or honest enough to appreciate Allen West’s integrity and intelligence. But he soldiers on, because he is a patriot.
I might just add that I do not live in Florida, but in one of the bluest counties in blue California. In the 2010 election to the House in my district, the Republican received somewhere between 20% and 25% of the vote. Obviously, for me to contribute to this year’s candidate would be a waste of money. I have, however, contributed to Allen West’s campaign. My contribution might make a difference.

Like-minded people who live in bruised-blue House districts might also consider visiting LTC West’s web site and making a contribution. They could do worse.
I am hoping that Mitt will have a place for Allen West in his cabinet. I am hoping that he won’t get out of politics like JC Watts did. It would be great for Mr. West to be our next (and much better) black president. He is one smartcookie and would have indeed won a debate with Obama as well. (at this point though- I think my 14 year old granddaughter could have won the debate with him)
I don’t know if you intended to say that blacks are inferior, but maybe you ought to rephrase that.
Why?
ricpic
You should come to Africa, we need bait, the fishing season is about to begin
Race has nothing to do with it. Your comment is offensive and unproductive.
ricpic;
Obama simply wilted at the sight of a REAL alpha male. Black/white has nothing to do with his poor debate performance.
It has nothing to do with testosterone. It has to do with image. Obama won as the “clean, articulate” black man. He dare not play the angry, vengeful, fist-pumping black stereotype. He’s not running for re-election in a racially gerrymandered congressional district, he’s trying to stay president of the U.S. of A. If he gets ugly and threatening where the whole country can see and hear him he’ll be lucky to find work judging American Idol.
I have to study obama to make my videos and you are one of the few who got it. Right from the get go he was nervous. While he had a few of his reflexive chin up head thrusts and his unctuos, nervous smile, he never seemed self-confident, or even that petulant, or smirky compared to his usual self.
He was defensive the whole night and had the look of a man who was being whipped.
I think something else is going on with Obama. I believe he self-medicates and he will up his brain candy slightly for the next debate. Then he will be back on game.
The Obama-haters on Hillbuzz swore that it was obvious that “O” snorted a few lines before going on and started to crash half-an-hour in. I can’t judge myself.
If Hussein should be mocked for his failures, then the same should be said for the American people themselves. This idea that the “good people” were somehow snookered and buffaloed by the persuasive powers of the manipulative MSM is absolute bulls**t and must be discounted outright if we are to ever hold the stooges and criminals among us accountable for their decisions and actions. There were many of us who knew the true nature of Hussein right from the start, regardless of the liberal-left propaganda machine that cranked out their crap day after day. The truth was always “out there” for anyone with eyes to see. If Hussein and his MSM enablers should be called to account, then so should the ignoramuses and suckers on the left and right who bought the MSM narratives and memes hook, line, and sinker and elevated Hussein and his cadre of communists and crooks. My God, the Marxocrats were given complete control of all levels of government by the American people with a filibuster-proof majority! Given the history of the past 70 years, what the hell else did any sane person think would happen but out-of-control murder and mayhem? No, the majority of the American people who voted for the Marxocrats own this catastrophe. The only true victims are those who saw the disaster coming like a runaway freight train and tried to stop it, to no avail. And it ain’t over yet…
When Obama first appeared as a Presidential contender, I bothered to do a little research. I found that his church taught a version of Christianity called “Black Liberation Theology”. This “theology” has little to do with the study of God or Christianity and much to do with Black Marxism. Do your own research. Tell me if I’m wrong. Obama has never distanced himself from the teachings of his church, just from some of the wilder rants of his pastor. Why? He still believes this nonsense. Since his church’s Christianity is so shallow, his like for Islam never is in conflict with his like for his church’s semblance of Christianity.
I don’t really think he is a Muslim anymore than I think he is a Christian. He just has some warm feelings towards them. His actions and words, while carefully avoiding any out and out reference to Marxism, show him to a Marxist. The “wealthiest Americans” versus “hard-working middle-class Americans” sounds identical to “bourgeois Americans” versus “proletariat Americans”.

Benjamin Franklin (Tuesday September 17, 1787): “…this Constitution with all its faults…is likely to be well administered for a course of years, and can only end in Despotism, as other forms have done before it, when the people shall become so corrupted as to need despotic Government, being incapable of any other.”
Most everyone seems to discount Roger’s thesis, but I don’t. Fatherhood in our Western culture, (and in American culture these last decades) has fallen into the Abyss as compared to when “Father Knows Best” was running on TV. Perhaps the comments here reflect that on some level, i.e., “Fatherhood, oh, c’mon, what’s that got to with anything?”
Well, Roger suggests, maybe a lot.
I don’t know many Mormons (a few, but not too many) but I think they in general have the sort of family culture one finds among the stronger Evangelical Christians or orthodox Catholics and Jews.
Romney had a very strong father in George Romney, a real Patriarch. And as Roger says of Romney’s five sons, he’s obviously done a great job with them (though my understanding is none of them served in the military, fwiw). Yet Obumbo has NOTHING remotely like that in his background.
Taking this speculation (which is all it is, but still valuable, I think) a bit further, just making the assumption our human culture in general, East and West, has achieved what it has because it is patriarchal, and the sub-Saharan culture (the gist of it–there are plenty of exceptions, I’m sure) tends to be matriarchal, perhaps has some play in O’s miserable life. Look at Michelle and Valerie and so on, for instance. Great men surround themselves with accomplished and capable men. Weak leaders surround themselves with yes-men. Obama, though, only has women. Only.
Therefore, all said and done, Bam MUST sense on some level the massive dichotomy between him and Mitt Romney. I suspect the main part of it is O’s sure and certain knowledge that Romney worked to earn the most of his success while Bam skated through life, Choom-gang aura glowing about him. But still, the basic, gut-level reality for him when he is standing in Romney’s actual presence has to conjure up deep, deep feelings of personal inadequacy that throw him off his game.
An Préachán
Great follow-up to Roger’s marvelous insights.
Your words: “Romney’s actual presence had to conjure up deep, deep feelings of personal inadequacy,” express so well the constant pain felt by the abandoned boy, regardless of how much he has otherwise succeeded in life.
This does not excuse Obama’s deeply immoral life, which is not a function of his abandonment, but it does explain in part why he became so deeply flawed.
Mormons are from Yankee farmers. They aren’t from a Southern, agrarian, warrior background. It’s just not really in their cultural DNA. They serve a two year mission, and they are deeply philanthropic, so they are affecting the world, already. Just not militarily.
Spouse’s father’s family is Mormon. He ran apostate to the military. His son was in the military, too. Their family is proud of them, but finds them foreign, more or less.
“Romney had a very strong father in George Romney, a real Patriarch. And as Roger says of Romney’s five sons, he’s obviously done a great job with them (though my understanding is none of them served in the military, fwiw).”
Lots of Mormons serve in the military, but they think it is SECONDARY to other ways to be patriotic; like raising a decent family and participating in the civic duty of living a good life. That is why Romney’s comments about his boy’s supporting his election as patriotic in his first run ran afoul of everyone other than Mormons. For Mormons, to be a patriot is more than killing enemies and saluting the flag. Remember, Mormons were for half their history hounded OUT of the United States and hunted by the Government. That Mormons serve at all is a miracle (a few revelations actually, but that is another story).
Actually, a large majority of Mormons serve in the military. During the cold war era- Mormons who had served in foreign language missions were especially valuable as “spooks”. There is no “cultural DNA” except that maybe the Mormon church encourages young men to serve missions first…and that experience for the most part helps make them very responsible soldiers. In fact, one of the best helicopter pilots I know is a Mormon woman! Here at Ft. Rucker, both a large number of instructor pilots (retired military) and pilots are Mormon.
I think this father “issue” is important as the baby-boomer cohort ages and passes from the scene. Obama’s birth year (1961) is still considered to be boomer era, and remember the sort of pitiful friendship that developed between George Bush 41 and Bill Clinton, essentially fatherless, 42. Also strange circumstance w/ 41′s oldest son, 43, becoming President–and the same age as Bill Clinton. All these men had overbearing mothers, which is maybe why the Bush men seemed sympathetic to Bill Clinton and his neediness. Obama is just a freak show and the white liberal female side of him is a very tough pill to swallow for most normal Americans. Think of Michelle, Valerie, Kathleen Sebelius, Elizabeth Warren and on and on.
Obama’s father wasn’t the victim of drunk driving crashes, but the perpetrator.
+1
It’s far past the time to stop using euphemisms like “victim of alcoholism” as though it were some alien invader rather than a choice a person has made. Such evasions are the kinds of excuses an infantile people whine as they plead for the great-bosomed Nanny of the Potomac to take care of all their needs.
Brilliant observations, wonderful understanding of Obama and specifically his demeanor at the debate.
The damage done to boys abandoned by their fathers — who can calculate the consequences?
Ecce homo!
I believe that obama went to the debate hoping that he could say anything he wanted to without being challenged. He got stuffed right from the start on that $5T debt statement. Romney referencing his sons and the “just because you keep saying it doesn’t make it true” line set the stage. He learned quickly that Romney would counter on just about anything he said and he really didn’t have anything he could say in his own favor that couldn’t be challenged.
My favorite was when Obama went off on this list of accusations against Romney and the rich for a long bloviating speech. I thought, “Obama is going to crush Romney with this one because of the sheer weight of the accusations. It would take a New York Times article to refute them.” Next thing that happened is that Romney refuted them one at a time as an actual list, and it took half the time that Obama used. The iceing on the cake was that they were effective refutations that challenged the very assumption the whole list was based. From that point on I sighed some relief.
You are forgiven Roger. It’s nice to see Romney receiving some of the praise he deserves. Of course Obama was scared out of his mind. Instead of reading bloviating nonsense, written by a know-nothing 20/30 something, to an adoring cult crowd, he actually had to stand toe to toe against a man of Romney’s learning, work ethic, accomplishments and character.
Romney’s total command of the facts left Obama bewildered.
Now hopefully someone who is equipped to do so will figure out how the unemployment rate drops 3/10s of one percent when the number of new jobs added isn’t sufficient to cover the number of people entering the work force for the first time. I’m not buying it. It seems as likely as our consulate in Libya being attacked on the anniversary of 9/11 with the weapons of terrorists because a movie review got out of hand (kudos Mark Steyn).
Employers now think, after the supreme court ruling, that Obamacare is likely to be around for a while, so there’s no point waiting any longer to adjust to this change in the law. They have noted that Obamacare does not apply to part-time jobs. Employers can thus get around it by replacing one full-timer by two part-timers. This counts as one extra person getting a (part-time) job. The growth in part time jobs interacts with how the most-followed employment number is calculated in such a way as to cause it to drop.
And look what Barry’s doing — again — after the debate: running to the campuses to prop up his fragile ego. It’s the same pattern of behavior that has created all his problems: running away from the truth. He’s falling into a trap of his own making. Now, he’ll over-compensate and get angry, and Mitt will continue to cut him down calmly and with facts. Barry will come out of the remaining debates looking confused, incompetent, ill-informed, and angry — because he is.
And that will be the end of Solomon Grundy. If Obama kills off his nice-guy facade and lets us see the rage-filled little boy within he might as well make like Martin Sheen’s presidential candidate Greg Stillson in “The Dead Zone”.
The Greek tragic dramatic character, Oedipus, was abandoned by his father in order to prevent a prophesy from coming true—that the son would kill the father. Of course, as Greek tragedies go, Oedipus grows up, the apparent son of a shepherd. While he journeys to the big city, he is nearly run off the road by, you guessed it, his father, the king. Son then kills his father.
The modern day pop culture version of this is found in the Star Wars movie series. Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader must duel to the death. And, of course we find out that Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker’s father. In part, because Darth Vader is dressed in black and looks rather Nazi-like—and because Luke Skywalker is dressed in white—-the movie goers know the good guy from the bad guy.
(Setting aside the fact that one candidate is racially “white” and the other is “black”, we should be aware of a cultural bias we hold. Western cultural norms suggest the color white represents purity, as in a bride’s wedding dress; and the color black represents death, as in the traditional color worn during periods of mourning. As a further aside—in light of this structure, I have always thought it a deeply unfortunate choice for the African American community, in its attempt to get away from the label “colored”, to choose “black” as a substitute.)
The Romney-Obama struggle is, indeed symbolic. From my perspective, it is a struggle of good and evil. I hope and pray that good will triumph over evil. And if not good, at least maturity, fidelity, and experience triumphing over Peter Pan-like immaturity, corruption, and Peter Principle inexperience and incompetence.
Romney landslide in November!
All I am reading here now are program response from the fallen angel Nephilim/Samyaza without understanding about how the afther in heaven creates the spiritual children , sons and daughters so in any program Machine multiplying kick the dust off my feet and wait for the next thread
Casting out the demon possessed be too extreme whjen taht’s all that is here as the Nephilum do not share power with anyone thus reducing the flesh image to a souless machine and only when you wonder where your soul is now can there be a change in the machine program
To waxwing01 at comments #23 and #25:
I am glad that PJMedia has good commentary attached to its articles. However, your comments appear to be generated in one language and then translated by Google translator into English. Much is lost in the translation. For instance, I have no idea what a wormtongue is.
“That was it … the end of Grima Wormtongue. In “The Lord of the Rings” Grima was the embodiment of hypocrisy, meanness and betrayal.”
http://www.lord-of-the-rings.org/books/grima.html
This is the only context in which I’ve heard the term. However, waxwing seems to be speaking more in some specific religous/spiritual construct.
See “Lord of the Rings”: Saruman’s agent at King Theodon of Rohan’s court. (From Wikipedia:)An archetypal sycophant, flatterer, liar, and manipulator.
waxwing01′s posts, with all the bits about Nephalim and the fallen angel Samyaza, the heavenly father creating spiritual children, sounds like some crazy Mormonism to me.
Traditional Christians, Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox, rarely or never use these terms or concepts unless they are scholars studying old heretical manuscripts or the Mormon faith. His posts are not translated, they just reflect teachings that are eccentric.
Wormtongue, as has been said, was an evil lackey in J.R.R. Tolkien’s books.
Mormonism has no tradition of referring to Nephilim, and I’ve never heard of Samyaza. Whatever waxwing is ranting about, it’s got nothing to do with Mormonism.
Waxwing is ranting, end of story. Loon, meet keyboard. People in hospitals get to surf the web too.
I believe his reference is to Wormwood or the devil.
Wormtongue was a man whose name was Gunnlaugr Ormstunga in Iceland (ca. 983-1008). He wrote derogatory poems hence the name.
Possibly a Gnostic take on esoteric Judaism; “Samyaza” seems like a mis-transliteration of “Shamhazai”, traditionally one of the two leaders of the Watcher Angels or “Grigori” (the other being Asmodeus/Ashmodai) who corrupted themselves with “the daughters of men” before the Flood, their offspring being the Nephilim or giants.
Did you read all of Roger Simon’s article, including the link to Romney’s spontaneous acts of charity? Perhaps you don’t like his religion. Perhaps you find its tenants peculiar. But have you ever read of a politician who has demonstrated such admirable ethical responsibility and has acted upon it? How many “mainstream*” Christians running for president in the last few cycles have matched Romney’s personal testimony of neighborly good will?
*Not to imply that Jeremiah Wright’s Marxist assembly is mainstream or even “mainstream.”
Thanks. My comment supports the old joke, “You can always tell a Harvard man. But, you cannot tell him much.”
Its ironic that worm-whatever is getting accused of “crazy Mormon talk,” when what the man has been saying is actually anti-Mormonism. I have been around long enough to be able to read between the foam at the mouth lines. He has dropped more than one post here. His point is actually rather simple: Obama is the Devil and Romney is a good man trapped in an evil religion who needs to escape it to become a great President. That pretty much sums up the whole of evangelical thinking this past election cycle. At least that is a step up from the first run where Romney was portrayed as simply evil no matter how good he seemed and had to be stopped.
The most important job a father has is to make sure that his boy becomes a man, that his son develops substance. Obama has no substance, he’s still a boy. All leftists lack substance, they forever run around screaming “it’s not fair” like a bunch of first-graders. They see the world the same way that children see the world so it’s no wonder that Obama’s policies are such utter failures.
All of Obama’s previous debates, including those with McCain, were a contest about who could best repeat Democratic Party Talking Points. After each the media patted Barack on the head, told him he was a good boy, gave him a treat and sent him off to bed. Romney has substance, Obama has talking points. One is a man, the other is a boy. But we shouldn’t forget the role that Obama’s loon of a mother played in his lack of development.
jesus said: he came for the sinner not the “righteous.” The so-called righteous are really demon possessed by the rebel Nephiim who worship “Sauron” yet have a few wormtongues who know what they are doing unlike seduced Eve and will be thrown in eternal hell along with the rebel angels I believe
I appreciate the context or approach of the article but to gain by blaming a father is pretty lame.
I am worried this ‘town hall’ will be largely populated by raging Libs & SEIU goons.
—-
Roger Simon: “Barack Obama was afraid. In fact, on a certain level he was petrified…”
—-
I agree with that.
—-
“Not only that, most of what Mitt Romney has done…is an open book, while almost everything about Obama remains purposefully hidden. (He knows this too, obviously.) Obama lives in fear of exposure…”
—-
Bingo! He lives in fear of exposure. He’s risen so high and yet he has to hide so much. He walked into that room beaten like a dog before the debate began. He didn’t prepare.
In a way, he wanted to lose. He’s got a lazy streak, a lack of will-power, (he can’t even quit smoking) and he lives in fear of being exposed.
But he’s never been very good at one-on-one debating. I’m a lot more worried about this so-called ‘town hall’ coming up.
“I am worried this ‘town hall’ will be largely populated by raging Libs & SEIU goons.”
I hope it is. These are Barry’s people, and Mitt will have answers for them as well. And they will look foolish, and angry and radical, just like Barry.
And lets not forget that the Media Bush Wackers will be ready for Romney this time.
Since you appear to be a fellow suffer-er in the “Land of 10,000 Lakes,” I’ll toss a wet blanket onto the topic for your consideration:
Have to wonder, even if Romney wipes up the floor with Barry the next time and the next time, if the ’100 ballots in the backseat Al Franken’ factor will come into play on November 6.
When a state wide re-vote should have been taken in Minnesota, you might remember a smiling Mark Ritchie instead declared the New York transplant Stuart Smiley winner, and ordered a wider seat to be installed on the senate floor in St Paul. (Well, alright…I’m just having an ‘acting stupid;’ ‘typical white person,”bitter clinger’ moment)…give me a second and I’ll snap out of it…
Anyway, under those circumstances, Barry could lose a debate to Bugs Bunny and still ‘I Won’ his way back into the White House and *hello* 14 more taxpayer financed vacations!
“Hey, Michelle, get my golf clubs…Air Force One is leaving! They’re just behind those ‘not so shovel ready jobs’ there in the closet…see ‘em?…right there next to the Constitution! C’mon! Put that Winston Churchill bust down!! Put it down! Grab the Wagu Beef! Let’s Move!”
Yes and remember the misplaced ballots in King County, Washington State when Christine Gregoire was elected. That was the practice session for Franken.
chrissy wasn’t elected, she stole it. they kept demanding recounts until she was ahead, then it was shut down. I’ve a friend whose ballot was thrown-out because her signature from her voter registration didn’t match her ballot. never mind 30 years had passed.
Sometimes fear of being out-classed is all it takes to end up being schooled.
On the topic of ‘race’ and ‘black’:
Recall the old warning that he who controls the meaning of words controls the
outcome of a debate. This was never more true than in the current discourse
about being black in America.
When Nobel Prize winning poet Tony Morrison can write an October 1988 New Yorker
article titled “Clinton as the first black president” was “Blacker than any
actual black person who could ever be elected in our children’s lifetime,” then
what is “black”? When the NAACP calls the black conservative Kenneth Gladney,
“not black enough”, and “not a brother” then what is “black”? When Time
magazine’s Jack White calls Supreme Court Justice Thomas, “the scariest of all
the hobgoblins”, saying “Washington seems to be filled with white men who make
black people uneasy”, than what is “black”? And when Obama, a man whose mother
is Caucasian, and whose father was not fully black, can tell us in his
autobiography that in his youth he struggled with his racial identity before
*deciding* to be black, what is “black”?
When Bill Maher, during a panel discussion on HBO complains that Obama’s
policies are “half-assed” “because he’s only half black.” and that “if he was
fully black, I’m telling you, he would be a better president.”, and that
“there’s a white man in him holding him back”, than what is “black”?
Indeed, on October 20, 2011, Pam Spaulding at Firedoglake wrote about two
prominent Republicans who happen to be black:
“But back to race. I’ll never understand Herman Cain and his relationship to the
GOP establishment; like former puppet Michael Steele, they don’t see (or don’t
care) how rancid race-based politics in the Republican party has become… [T]he
Republican leadership has made its bed with the fundamentalists and nativist
know-nothings, making Cain and other black Republicans curious cases that border
on self-loathing.” In this context, what exactly is “black”?
CNN’s Soledad O’Brien writes of a private meeting in 2007 with Jesse Jackson in
her book, “The Next Big Story.” During the meeting, Jackson complained to O’
Brien, whose mother is a black woman from Cuba, that there weren’t any black
anchors on CNN. She wrote, “He looks me in the eye and reaches his fingers over
to tap a spot of skin on my right hand. He shakes his head. “You don’t count,”
he says.” She closed the section with “[t]he arbiter of blackness had weighed
in. I had been measured and found wanting.”
When the results of an August 2010 Missouri ballot proposition directing that
state to protect its citizens from being forced into ObamaCare were announced
and the voter sentiment scored a record for being such a lopsided adoption of
the provision. In one county the vote was 92% in favor of the provision. Juan
Williams complained on Fox News this was really about race.
Later, in a January 30, 2012 article in The Hill, Williams wrote that when
conservative candidates use the words “Founding Fathers” and the “Constitution”,
they are speaking in code. He said that when a candidate suggests that black
people should demand jobs instead of food stamps, that he is ” “dog whistling”
at certain white audiences”, saying this was “the same rhetorical technique of
the segregationist politicians of the past…” This begs the question, if a
person reveres the Founding Fathers, what race does Williams presume he is?
Finally, Dr. Cornel West, whose official web site describes him as “a prominent
and provocative democratic intellectual”, was the subject of an article in the
May 18, 2011 Washington Post. Reporter Krissah Thompson opened with, “Scholar
Cornel West’s scathing critique of President Obama’s liberal bona fides in a
series of recent interviews has ignited a furious debate among African American
bloggers and commentators.”
References to race, and especially to “black”, in all these diverse contexts, is
clearly not about “race”. It is about ideology, or more exactly, about
socialist ideology.
President Andrew Jackson was the son of an Irish woman who married a black man.
Andrew Jackson was such a high percentage black that his oldest brother may have
been sold as a slave. President Jackson was at least as black as Barak Obama,
but since Jackson was not a socialist, he could not be “black”, at least
according to the way the guardians of popular culture deine the word.
As far as I am concerned, we are all made in the image of God. I agree with
Martin Luther King, that people should be judged on the content of their
character and not on the color of their skin. With respect to Barak Obama: it
is not about his genetic heritage, it is about the ideology he adopted. It is
not what percent black he is, it is about how thoroughly red he is.
“As far as I am concerned, we are all made in the image of God. I agree with

Very perspicacious. Right on the money!
Non-father/son analogy: Ward Cleaver vs. Eddie Haskell
Obama is the President, what does he have to prepare for? He should already know his stuff. He was exposed for being a fraud. The lack of passion comes from not knowing the subject matter. He does not care, what he cares about is community organizing and race baiting. That’s the stuff he knows.
Perhaps now we can understand why wolfsmile Obama is winning and will win. He gets his power from the mother ancient matriarchial system in place here in USA where every 4 years the King is chosen or unchosen to then become feritizer to make the corn grow just like the innocent babies in the womb of the mother here in USA so one can say Holy Mary Mother of God has nothing to do with this matriachial system in place but this also show we the Christians are watchers in Babylon with The SElf on Trial ,”the unexamined life maynot be worth living (Socrates) but the untested Christian life is a veritable contradiction interms”(from a book)
My point: since we are dealing with Babylon replacing one king ruled by the ancient mother with another ruled by the Nephilim can make matters much worse as we see with the austerity in Europe causing depression level economics and if this is tired in USA the fall for the world much greater making way for THE ANTICHRIST spoken of in the Book of Revelation and Mitt Romney just another seduced Eve type bringing this great curse on our world
Waxxy – check for a gas leak and, for God’s sake, don’t light a match or switch on a light!
LOL!! I almost fell out of my chair… That was perfect.
Times 10!
Yes. But, more centrally—all Obama cares about is himself.
Obama filled his parental void with Joe Biden. Mitt turned to a sixth son, in the form Paul Ryan, for assistance.
Actually I think obama picked Biden for the same reason a chubby girl picks a really fat girl for a friend.
obama picked someone dumber than himself to appear smart in comparison. And there were not a lot of choices, as obama is not very smart. Thus we got the Dumb and Dumber Presidency.
Biden also balanced the Genovese/Gambino ticket –Pelosi and Obama Genovese, Reid Gambino.
Mr. Simon, you and other commentators here keep analyzing Comrade Obama’s actions and motivations as if he were just another political figure who happens to be a little further to the left than most; he’s not: he is a Red Diaper Baby, a born and bred apparatchik who absorbed communist dogma from his mother’s milk. His public persona and public statements are all a mask and an act, and this is especially so when he is before a white audience that hasn’t been screened to exclude any not supportive of him. The Comrade Obama in the appearance before the Black preachers is far more the real Obama even if the accent is faked. The arrogance and condescention that he just can’t completely contain is the real Obama. He wasn’t rattled by a father figure; he was rattled by an opponent who didn’t do what he was expected to do.
He wasn’t unprepared, he was prepared for the wrong thing and that shook him deeply. In the better part of 20 years of dealing with Meany School/Alinskyite union reps, virtually all of them were just like him, though he’s better than the low-level ones. When I first saw him give that speech at the Convention, I said to myself, “I know you, you’re the one they think they can pass.” Early in the 2008 cycle I actually thought he was a Clinton foil; someone for HRC to run to the right of. I didn’t think he could hold it together and not have it become obvious what he really was, but with a lot of media cover and with McCain’s woeful inability or unwillingness to confront him, he was able to keep the mask on and fool the 53%.
The Alinsky disciple didn’t see a father figure, he saw an “other,” a nothing, a non-human and the other didn’t do what it was supposed to do. Every union rep I faced in recent times, last decade or so, was elaborately prepared, albeit often for the wrong thing. Just as was the case with my opponents in arbitrations, I’m sure that somewhere there are elaborate briefing books with which Comrade Obama was intimately familiar. The whole Alinskyite preparation method is to sit down and decide what you’re going to do in great detail but giving little thought to what the opponent MIGHT do. Lefties have a construct for the “other,” and expect the “other” to do what they expect him/her to do. If the “other” doesn’t do what it is supposed to do, the Lefty has no Plan B. Comrade Obama because he has been a “made man” for a long time and because of the miracle of affirmative action has never worked for anything and has never been confronted by anyone in his political life; the “racist” shield has always protected him from any real opposition. Well, the shield is pretty much worn out and they have done their worst to demonize Romney, he’s still there, and getting in Comrade Obama’s face only gets him called a racist by people who were never going to consider voting for Romney anyway. Four years of the race card have pretty much immunized people on the right and in the center and only mind-numbed lefties are claiming that Romney was racist and disrespectful or are making up lies and excuses for The Won having gotten his affirmative action a** affirmatively handed to him. All you have to do to beat lefties is stand up and beat them; they count on your not being willing to do it.
I appreciate the compassionate effort, on the part of Mr. Simon, to understand what is going on in Obama’s feelings.
But I tend to agree with you: we have to do with a trained professional revolutionary who would not imagine in a million years that his opponent actually dares opposing him and has actual numbers and facts to counter Obama’s lies.
The totalitarians ends up putting people in gulags quite because they have no other possible answer: they have no facts to present to convince the not-brainwashables.
The face of Obama was a mask: everybody says he looked like a schoolboy, I think that that “schoolboy” mask was the only camouflage he could find for his colossal anger.
The day after he was back to his rallies yelling and telling lies, happy and relaxed: he could finally express the anger and the hate that are his only motivation.
Which is, again, very sad.
But very dangerous too.
“I actually thought he was a Clinton foil; someone for HRC to run to the right of. ”
I thought that too. I still think that, except now they’ll be running to his right in 2016. I’m still not convinced he’s not HRC’s puppet, if you could untangle the Chicago politics and sort out what’s actually wired up to what. I might go out on a limb and speculate that HRC may even be a co-patsy with BHO after seeing the damage she is inflicting on middle east policy and relations. She could not be doing what she’s doing stupidly…. It’s intentional, as intentional as a knife to the heart.
I am not sure I am “all in” on Roger’s view but may get there. I rarely disagree with the talented and wise Mr. Simon.
Denver may have been a tricky location for BHO, the last time he was there for a major event, he was in the “express elevator”, about to accomplish something amazing. He could literally do no wrong. He could fill football stadiums, repeatedly, just by showing up. Money was pouring in. His plane went to the front of the line on the jetway. He was more spiritual leader than candidate. He was admired around the world.
As Obama looked out from the stage this week, there sat Team Romney and Michelle. On one side, a big supportive family. On the other, a spouse of 20 years, quoted a decade ago wondering out loud if Obama would ever amount to anything, she thought about divorcing him.
Obama came in with a game plan, to duel with the Romney he “knew”. The strawman Romney he has built in his mind and described on the stump. He knew quickly that his game plan was not going to be effective against the real man, who kept looking right at him and smiling. How to adjust? My guess is he decided to “hide in the weeds” and just get off the stage OR his actions reflected his true feelings–why fight for a 2nd term you don’t really want?
As someone has said on this board many times, he wants to be president, just not do president. Indeed. When Obama said something to Romney like, “You are going to be busy on your first day, repealing ObamaCare…”, that sounded like a concession to me.
To be quite blunt, what we saw that night of the debate was a class act (Romney, of course) confronting utter sleaze. I don’t think it’s really much more complicated than that.
Short and sweet!
I agree with most of what Roger is saying but what I also saw is the boss and employee dynamic of the debate. I haven’t heard anyone talk about what Romney said about Simpson Bowles about, “You should have seized some of the aspects of it and run with it,” and Obama’s response was, “Well I’m doing that right now. We’re going to present that to Congress.”
I think Leherer cut Romney off at this point, but the message was- do some work! Get something done! I was reminded of my sales manager experience. You can only say, “Well, this is what I’m going to do,” for so long. Eventually somebody is going to call you on it. I think is what was happening. For the first time, someone was saying to Obama, “Hey, you haven’t done much.”. Obama knows it is true. How could he possibly respond to that?
One can only make excuses for so long for a lack of performance. Romney has a lot of experience of calling people on their performance or lack of performance and that’s what I felt like it was. A boss saying hey step it up. Pretty hard to answer that when almost nothing has been accomplished.
I don’t doubt that Obama has a lot of personal issues to work through. Abandoned by his father, taught to hate the West by his mother, sent away by his mother to be raised by his white grandparents in a Western country, raised in a white environment, tutored by a black Marxist as a father figure, heavy into drugs. Hides his college career from preying eyes. Writes two books, both about himself. Marries a black women darker than himself. Go figure out how often that happens, especially with successful black men. He is an extreme outlier in his choice of marriage partners. Unluckily, gets two daughters. He will never experience being a father to a son.
This man has issues, but….
Has anyone thought to critique his handlers? After all, they are supposed to practice debating before the real thing. Who played Rommy during the rehearsal?
Did Obama ignore advice from his handlers about preparation and debating style?
It is scary to think that Obama and his handlers are all stupid. But, they seem to be mostly young people from a leftist background, so, they might all be stupid.
BTW, the irony of the racism charge is that:
1. He was elected President in large part because of his race.
2. He is a viable candidate for re-election only because of his race.
3. If he loses, his supporters will blame it on racism.
Except that, when he married Michelle, she was far more successful (and connected) than he was; if anything, she married down.
There are a LOT of alternative explanations for that marriage. Without giving any of them any particular credence, I think money, politics, and power were and are the most important part of the marriage.
I have recently read a rather bizarre one.
Something about the Down Low in Chicago.
That this was an “arranged” marriage.
Although, both Michelle and Obama worked at Sidley & Austin for a time (a very large contributor to his campaign, by the way).
It is often reported that they met there. But Michelle is not the most important woman in his life.
Valerie Jarrett is. Valerie Jarrett’s mother had three white grandparents. She decides on EVERY decision that Obama makes. She commands that only she, Michelle and Michell’s mother can call him by his first name. She nixed the bin Laden raid three times before Obama finally took the chance. She details who gets into the White House and who does not.
Her true job is to make Obama feel proud of himself. When Obama looks at Jarrett, he sees himself as whole and good and real. He is no longer the fake black, the fatherless kid flailing around in a white world, tortured by the unfairness of it all. She fills the emptiness at the core of his identity. She admires and adores him. Jarrett told New Yorker editor David Remnick that the president is “just too talented to do what ordinary people do.” And the icing on the cake — she shares his left-wing politics that project unfairness out onto white America.
Obama relies on Jarrett to create the White House bubble he likes to live in, where his narcissism is stroked and his desire to do the big, left-wing thing is encouraged. Jarrett is the doorman. She runs access to the president. As Klein puts it, she guards him from meeting with “critics and complainers who might deflate his ego.” No one gets past Jarrett who has an incompatible point of view.

“These boys grew up with a father who, although wealthy and successful, worked like a demon, doted on them, and apparently devoted an extraordinary amount of time to charitable work, in which he also involved them. ”
A huge part of this story is that Romney’s father did exactly the same with him, and also took young Mitt with him on official business. Thus TWO generations of excellent fathering.
I wholeheartedly agree with Roger. Mitt Romney was born in 1947, President Obama was born in 1961. Put another way that illustrates a point is that Romney is 65 years old and the President is 51 years old. Mitt’s oldest son is now 42 years old, only 9 years difference.
Did everyone forgot that during the debate Romney compared the President to one of his sons? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VK1JE7CLcJw&feature=player_detailpage#t=937s And it wasn’t a comparison as much as a scolding.
This was only 15 minutes into the debate and set the tone. I can easily see that the dynamic between them is more like father and son.
Roger says of the next debate: “But Romney is the same man, the same good father. Trust him. He will prevail.” I couldn’t agree more. After this first debate, Romney, being a good, knowledgeable, father, and having
Romney, after having 1 1/2 hours of first-hand interaction with his “new-found son”, hopefully will maintain this tone of supportive father. Along the lines of, “…son, you gave it your best shot(and failed miserably) , but let Dad handle it from here.”
And then Obama went straight into his trademark filibuster mode and basically started blathering. Oh, it sounded nice, he just wasn’t saying anything. It’s his only trick.
Obama Wins Post-Debate Excuse-athon http://www.wbur.org/2012/10/05/obama-debate-excuses
Interesting comments. He may well be a sociopathic red-diaper baby, but all I saw was a man clearly out of his depth, looking for a way out, and everybody with eyes and ears saw what transpired.
Actually for the first time, he had to leave his fortifications (MSM, adiminstration flunkies, stacked crowd of fan-boys, etc…) that surrournded him his whole presidency and engage in debate without having complete control. He confirmed what I suspected and behold– an incompentent, lazy man with medium intelligence who lacks any curiosity with a low grasp of the world at large. He likes the trappings of being POTUS, but he doesn’t like the job of the POTUS. I notice with leftists, they spend a lot of effort plotting and campaigning, but when the actually get power they make a dog’s dinner out of it all. Clinton comes to mind, but Barry really takes the cake.
Romeny and Ryan just need to continue what their doing, but even after their victory there is still a long, hard road ahead with some pain coming.
“I notice with leftists, they spend a lot of effort plotting and campaigning, but when the actually get power they make a dog’s dinner out of it all.”
The problem the “reality based community” is is that they don’t live in reality. They live in a Potemkin Village constructed to suit their ideology and beleive everyone else lives there too. Comrade Obama, Kerry, and a bunch of lefty apparatchiks built a Mitt Romney in their minds, largely the one they’ve been trying to sell to the electorate, and they prepared for their Mitt Romney construct. The real Mitt Romney showed up and he didn’t do what their Mitt Romney was supposed to do.
The other thing to be borne in mind is that unless you’ve actually dealt with them on an ongoing basis, long enough for the mask to slip a few times, you cannot conceive of the contempt lefty apparatchiks have for those not members of their “club.” If you’re not a lefty, you’re not human and are entitled to none of the consideration due a human. This is the thinking that gets people sent to gulags and gas chambers and lurking inside most of those skinny, bespectacled, lank haired lefty punks is a wannabe Strelnikov fantacizing about cruising flyover country in an armored train with a brigade of Cossacks looking for revenge against the guy who got the pretty girl. (Well, maybe not in exactly those terms because I doubt any of them have the attention span to actually read or even watch Dr. Zhivago.)
This is the source of much of the difficulty Republican elected and appointed officials have with unions and lefty front groups; few Republicans ever see them, and when they do, they’re usually on their best behavior or they only trot out their polished, avuncular lobbyist. They don’t understand that when he puts that avuncular arm around a Republican, he isn’t showing affection, he’s feeling for a soft spot. The Alinsky disciple apparatchik is a creature of the very blue places and s/he rarely ventures out of them. Other than some states being Californicated, Red American has gotten redder and Blue America has gotten bluer, so Republicans rarely see much of the kinds of crazy left whackos the Left produces in the places where they’re safe. Until the last election cycle all but a couple of the union states were firmly and seemingly irredeemably Blue. When I was head of Alaska’s labor relations, Swartzenegger’s guy and I were the only two appointed Republican heads of LR for a state in the Country; the rest were either powerless technocrats or Democrat apparatchiks. As much as it makes him susceptible to the RINO firing squads, Romney’s experience governing a deep Blue state gives him a familiarity with the Left that few Republicans have.

All your talk of red and blue reminded me of an anecdote:
The blue states are really ‘red’ in the Lefty political sense. The reason they’re labeled ‘blue’ is because, a while back, someone at ABC-TV realized it wouldn’t be a good idea to call that which is ‘red’ red. So ABC started the policy of calling Dem states ‘blue’ in a conscious effort to obfuscate.
In other words, we have nothing to fear but the truth.
I don’t know where the current undertanding of Red and Blue States originated; I saw it first in USA Today about the Bush-Gore race. I remember thinking back then that in wargaming red is the opposition force and I don’t know why we Republicans accepted characterization as the opposition force or accepted the color normally associated with communists. ‘Course, it does go back to one of the rules of dealing with communists, er, excuse me, Democrats; you can be sure that they’re doing whatever they’re accusing you of, so it makes perfect sense for them to color us red to hide the fact that they are, indeed, “Reds.”
“If you’re not a lefty, you’re not human and are entitled to none of the consideration due a human. This is the thinking that gets people sent to gulags and gas chambers and lurking inside most of those skinny, bespectacled, lank haired lefty punks…”
I know, I’ve had the displeasure. Did you ever catch the interveiw with the FBI agent Larry Gratwohl from the 80 s? It’s how they dismiss your pointed facts in a public forum and give you the smirk and dismissal tone as your not worth debating. The don’t like being challenged let alone throwing their words back at them.
You might find this amusing. In 2010 I asked my mother-in-law what the word in the street about Obama was in Moscow. She told me he is considered a fool and a laughing stock. She said, “what he is attempting to do will cause a back lash and it will be another generation before they (socialists) can recover. The Americans are a fiercely independent people and when you try to do all at once what he is attempting, there will be push back. It needs to be done in small, incremental steps.”
Mom was a low leverö functionary in foreign embassies around Moscow for a long time and a party memeber since 1965. She is a retried old lady in a small flat, but recognized what Obama was and his intentions immediately from the bits of news she picked up on the local TV.
Yes, I saw a couple of reports of his days with the Weather Underground; brave guy. Most lefties only talk about killing people; that bunch is one of the very few US leftist groups that would actually do it. It is criminal that Ayers not only isn’t doing life, but is rich, famous, and influential, I think far more influential that anyone much wants to admit.
I knew what Comrade Obama was the minute I laid eyes on him and saw that so very familiar condescending smirk that every union rep, community organizer, and lefty operative seems to have. They must have a school for it or distribute video of the approved lefty smirk since they all have the same one.
Twenty-five or thirty or so years ago labor hands and employer hands could have decent personal relations. The union hands believed in collective bargaining but had a healthy cynicism about it and especially about politics and public employees. They were economic liberals or statists but most were quite conservative socially, which didn’t mean that most that could didn’t keep a mistress and find ways to dispatch a pretty girl ahead of the guys on the out of work list in exchange for her favors. When I was on the union side many, many years ago I was pretty low-level but even I never saw the back of an airplane or picked up a tab from my own money. Starting in the ’80s the whole culture of organized labor began to change. I was working as an employer rep by the late ’80s because the left over SDSers and other ’60s radicals were beginning to dominate union professional staffs. By the ’90s collective bargaining was just politics by other means and if you were at the policy and strategy level you had to know more about Marx, Mao, and, especially, Alinsky than about labor law and labor relations practice.
As the unions became more and more political in the ’90s they became less and less effective at actual bargaining. In ordinary LR practice, negotiations, arbitrations, etc., we could beat them like rented mules. But they were quite good at buying politicians and even whole governments. If they owned the government, they didn’t need negotiations or a grievance procedure; the government just gave them what they wanted and the bargaining processes were a charade. Hell, Hahvud’s whole very expensive “Interest Based Bargaining” system is just to train complicit public and third sector managers in how to give the union what it wants while making it look like you put up a fight.
By the time I came to be in charge in ’03, I thoroughly understood them and thoroughly hated most of them. We basically put an economic gun to their heads by threatening both their dues stream and their certification and told them, “you be reasonable and we will.” They did a few stupid things to see if we were serious, found out we were, and I became the only LR head since bargaining began in ’72 to keep them all quietly under contract for a whole gubernatorial term. With that done, I decided July 1, 2006, was a good day to retire.
My old man came home from Vietnam in 69′, did some odd jobs and landed a job as corrections officer for the state of Ohio in the early 70′s. Worked his way up and did loads of work fighting the public unions that organized corrections. State correction employees who were not holding rank of Sgt., LT, Captain could belong to a public union despite public safety concerns. He did more than few double shifts in his day.
Bad enough be amongst convicted criminals all day, but then to have to fight public union scrunts as well. I’ve heard it all. One of my bucket wishes is live long enough to see the public union spine snapped in half.
I read these and other comments and there seem to be several recurring themes, i.e. Obama is a an idiot, that he doesn’t know what he’s doing, and others that say he’s brilliant and knows exactly what he’s doing, and here’s another (interesting) theory regarding O’s father abandoning him vs. Romney’s good fathering to his 5 sons. Where I believe the truth lies is somewhere in between all of this – each of those is most likely too simple to explain the real complexity, but at the same time there is some merit to each of the various, and seemingly opposite, theories.
Obama clearly isn’t an idiot, but his limited life experiences (law professor, community organizer, IL State Senate, 2 yrs as US Senator prior to becoming POTUS, and practically ZERO experience in working in the private sector, much less running a company & meeting a payroll), make his knowledge about how insurance, the health care industry, the auto industry, & the energy industry all work, quite limited. All he knows is the United States is too big & too rich (which came at the expense of others, btw) and therefore, our wealth must be ‘spread around’ in order to correct what he sees as injustices everywhere. Never mind that many successful people actually did put blood, sweat and tears into their businesses, all while risking capital, to ‘build that’. Obama’s plan isn’t just about raiding the US treasury to reward his corrupt union cronies and deadbeat welfare, Obama-phone recipients; it also includes rewarding corrupt third-world countries, through the UN and IMF. We all know how LBJ’s ‘War on Poverty’ has worked out – trillions of dollars spent and millions of people still languishing in poverty.
Now for the other side. Has Obama done some idiotic things? Of course, but my belief is that comes from, although exhibiting brilliance at times, being on the wrong side of history. Consequently, it isn’t surprising that he has a reverse-Midas touch. Much of what he puts our money into ends up as failure – Solyndra, GM, Abound, union corruption, etc. Being on the wrong side of history may also explain his propensity for lying – i.e. the recently surfaced tape of him accusing the federal government of racism in the way Katrina victims were treated, when in fact, he voted against a Stafford Act amendment which would have waived the requirement of local matching dollars in order to qualify for Stafford money, and also that more money was spent on Katrina than Andrew and 9/11 combined, along with many other Paul Bunyan-sized tall tales.
Roger is definitely onto something. Obama’s worldview has no doubt been significantly shaped by his absentee father, but this was accomplished in large part by his mother Stanley’s tales of how great a man he was (he had multiple wives, was a bigot, adulterer, alcoholic – a really fantastic combination of greatness), and that could stem from Stanley’s embarrassment over him having abandoned her and young Barack, so her solution was to build up Barack, Sr. as a great man, rather than the philandering scoundrel he really was, and at the same time minimizing Obama’s exposure to positive Western influences.
So all of this is to say that yes, the egomaniacal, narcissistic Obama probably is quite intimidated when he faces Romney, a modest & truly charitable (he contributes his own money) man of not only true individual accomplishment (Bain, Olympics, Governor), but also a real father to his kids, AND the product of a loving 2-biological parent household himself. There are eery similarities between Obama and Clinton’s backgrounds in regard to Roger’s explanation here – Clinton, too, was without his real father at an early age, and had to deal with an abusive stepfather. Moreover, Obama’s poor debate performance may also be explained by the fact that the media has not only shielded him from legitimate criticism and hard questions, they have simultaneously hailed and adored him as a cultural savior, so when faced with real opposition and challenge, he folds. He receives a Nobel Peace Prize without even having served one term and the media & entertainment industry swoon over him, so it’s no wonder he caves when he has to bear a real load.
obama sr did NOT abandon stanley and bozo. stanly dunham enrolled in the university of washington in seattle for fall term starting in sept ’61. SHE’S the one who left when bozo was mere weeks old.
When I served as a naval officer in the late 80s, we were instructed by our captain that many of the young black males coming through captains mast were from broken homes and lacking a father figure… we were told we were to be that father figure in the young man’s life. While I thought it a bit to late to raise a 18, 19, 20 yr old son, it was and is a terrible tragedy plaguing the black community. It’s a sad life not having a father, even sadder if he abandoned you, and even sadder still if he is a hopeless drunk or drug abuser… no simple answers, but it must weigh on kids even up through adulthood.
It is a tragedy, and to a lesser extent it affects young men from all races in our society.
Well Steve, if those young black sailors were over represented in the discopline process that’s just another proof that American society is racist to its core and probably irredeemable. So there.
sarc/off
sports coaches, too. they are usually from stable, loving, two-parent homes. It’s a culture shock for them. The best Man Up, Dad Up, and nurture their young charges.
Since you sound observant and compassionate, I am going to guess you did the best you could, and now these young men are having lives to be proud of. So, thank you. I think their wives and children thank you, as well.
Roger–So, why did you characterize Frank Marshal Davis–perhaps the most influential figure in Obama’s life from age 10 to 17 and even, perhaps, thereafter (and some speculate, Obama’s biological as well as ideological father) as just a mere “pornographer”–although he was that, as well as a hard drinking, pot-smoking, self-described “pervert,” newspaperman, amateur photographer of nudes, and poet as well–when, in fact, his most important characteristic was that he was an active, card-carrying member of the Communist Party, reportedly working on their behalf for many decades in both Chicago and Hawaii, with a 600 page FBI file, who was called before a Congressional Investigating Committee, and took the Fifth.
I do trust Romney, Roger. You don’t succeed in the world he is used to w/o some chops.
I do NOT however, trust whoever will moderate and formulate the questions for the next two debates. Obama is the LSM’s darling and they won’t let go easily or w/o a fight, fair or not.
And here we have to hope that Romney has learned the lesson of the failures of practically every other Republican leader since Reagan and will not let the media/moderator manipulate him. I, too, believe that the next moderator will be sternly instructed to do his/her duty on behalf of Comrade Obama. Romney has a law degree: he knows a question that assumes a fact not in evidence and he knows when a questioner is mischaracterizing a prior statement and asking him to agree to the mischaracterization; the two favorite media methods of trapping Republican candidates who feel compelled to answer whatever crap the media throws out. He needs to take a page out of Gingrich’s book and get in their face if they do that stuff.
This debate was most likely the first time in Obama’s life that he was NOT the automatic recipient of Affirmative Action in any significant endeavor.
And the results clearly showed what happened when he had to compete on an equal basis with his adversary.
^^^ Winner. ^^^
second the motion to declsre this the winning comment
– ed!
Fourth it!
Yes. And that is why his debate performances will not improve. His knowledge deficit is so enormous that all the cramming he might do between now and the next debate will be but a drop in a very large and empty bucket.
My worry is when he is not re-elected and the woman with the Obamaphone doesn’t get her Obamaphone?
riots by the boot licker class will be the least of the damage he and his cronies are likely to engaged in before he’s out on jan 20th.
I keep coming back not to Obama but to the people who elected him. And I have enough self doubts to question myself about almost everything I do. I know so many people who voted for this hollow shell (shill) and they all seem so certain. They are parasites who think they are the host.
As Obama’s cover story comes down, the curtain goes up on the USAO’s cover-up of J.J., Jr.’s role in the Blago story
http://illinoispaytoplay.com/2012/10/05/as-obamas-cover-story-comes-down-the-curtain-goes-up-on-the-usaos-cover-up-of-j-j-jr-s-role-in-the-blago-story/
So is Jesse Junior condemned to spend the rest of his days like Vincent “The Chin” Gigante? Shuffling the streets of his neighborhood in bathrobe and slippers, muttering to himself and acting insane so as to avoid prosecution? I don’t see how he can arrange a permanent berth in his luxury funny farm as he can’t stay a non-serving congressman forever.
Very plausible theory, Mr. Simon. Obama has had unscripted, untelepromptered malfunctions before and his momentary open mike gaffs have revealed the inner O in a big way. But the first debate was actually a ninety minute long gaff and there are two more to come. If I were an Obama minion I would be panicked too.
“Obama must rage against or embrace the man who represents what he most dearly needed and never had. If this really were Aeschylus or Sophocles, Obama would be caught between those conflicting goals and end up plucking his own eyes out.”
Roger, Obama really asked for this analysis with his 2008 acceptance speech surrounded by the Greek columns. My own father raised me on Greek and Roman myths, so I started pointing out in 2009 that the tragic Greek myth that tells the story of Obama’s life is that of Phaeton, who also was half black and wreaked devastation on the world due to his vanity and rage at being abandoned by his father.
My own theory to explain the secrecy about Obama’s academic record is that he never learned to read or write very well because he was bounced around so much as a child and spent his primary school years in Indonesia. I also think he is a sociopath born and raised and that he got bounced around because of that rather than instability on the part of his mother. She sent him back to her sociopath father because only her dad could handle him.
You are quite right to make the case that, win or lose, Obama is driven by daddy issues. As Obama prepares for the next two debates, he can’t possibly make up for a lifetime of getting along on his patented blend of charm, deceit, manipulation and bullying rather than earning his way and mastering the knowledge and skills required for success, as Romney has done all his life. Drama-wise, in the debates at least, there’s a certain perfection that the abandoned son will get his comeuppance at the hands of a good father. But we still have our work cut out for us to make the case that Obama represents a “Life of Julia,” a fool’s paradise of mediocrity and servitude to bureaucrats, where the government replaces the absent father/spouse and falsely promises the security Obama wishes his own father had cared about him enough to provide.
You know for a writer, this is quite good. My favorite part is where you go if it were those two Greek guys then this would be the conflict and he’d pull his eyes out, that really got me, you presume to know what those two guys would write and you’re probably right.
YOU WANT CONTRAST, I’LL GIVE YOU CONTRAST:
What could be more American than a religion founded in upstate NY, which then caused a large group of people to cross America in a wagon train. And, ultimately, to help close the frontier.
What could be more un-American than a religion which channels Karl Marx in order to preach politics that basically blames your victimhood status on everyone else but you and your God.
oh, good.
and, ouch!
Heh heh. The metaphysics may be, um, bizarre, but the blending of self-reliance and concern for community displays American public virtue at its best. It is as though Joseph Smith had conscientiously studied Alexis de Tocqueville and (putting aside the Book-of-Genesis notion of conjugal relations) diligently applied the lesson.
Noesis –
I’ve crossed this country many times by car. Every time I do so, I marvel that anyone could cross it on foot or on horse or by wagon train. The terrain is just that harsh: There’s deserts. There’s mountains. There’s hundreds of small little cracks in the earth everywhere –like mini Grand Canyons — that can’t be crossed and that would force people to zig zag continuously. This would also cause people to lose trails and get lost. Floods, of course, would do the same. Then there’s the possibility of no food or water. Did I mention Indians? What about tornadoes and drought. Also, there’s the ‘not knowing where you’re going’ factor. I’m in SoCal. Every time I see a grasshopper, I think of the damage to crops in biblical times and the great Mormon story of the sea gulls.
It took very brave people to make the early crossings, the likes of which we may never see again.
Full transparency: I’ve only seen two grasshoppers in three years — but they still piss me off.
I so agree with you, Roger, maybe b/c I’m a writer too and always thinking about what forms character.
Obama looked ashamed. He often agreed with Romney, “Okay, okay,” he would mumble. He smiled back at him after a zinger as if he were the audience and not the debater!
Romney took the role of kind, loving father addressing a wayward son, and this turned sad Bams upside down and inside out. Up to then, anyone on the other side was The Enemy.
Hopefully he will mature a little when he’s retired in Hawaii after November 6.
I’ll leave the psychoanalysis of Obama’s id to the professionals, but it is really difficult to debate when you’re a President with:
(1) No longer a blank slate and a horrid record
(2) Of average intelligence
(3) Hiding behind a corrupt and complicit media, then left exposed
(4) Corrupt in your own right
(5) Great at delivering a prepared speech; not so great at being challenged to think for yourself.
This idea that has taken hold even in popular Conservative media circles that Obama somehow highly intelligent, was a myth, is a myth, will forever be a myth. That’s still political correctness run amuck, and the reasons very visible.
Why can’t we just admit standing next to a successful executive with 35 years of experience, numerous leadership achievements and awards, grounded in economics, finance and law – that Barack Obama is an average man on the street? The game is up.
In a fair debate, Obama is never going to beat Mitt Romney.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but this is a silly statement. Almost anything can happen in a 90 minute format. It is a best of three series, if you want to put it in those terms. In 1984, the Cubs finally won a divisional championship. The city was delirious. They squared off against the Padres in the playoffs, and took the first game, 13-0. The city went mad. But the lopsidedness of the first game was irrelevant the rest of the way, as the Cubs went on to lose the series against the Padres. No matter how decisively Romney won the first debate, he has two more to go against a cagey politician. I hope Romney and his advisers are not approaching the VP and two remaining POTUS debates with a sense of invincibility. It got Mr Obama into trouble on Wednesday.
And you’re the myopic, defeatist, lukewarm Republican I speak of often here – replete with mischaracterizations and straw men, indirectly lending Obama some unearned superstar status which allowed the media to characterize Romney as silver spooned chump.
Obama was “cagey” Wednesday night – and he got his clock cleaned. I hope Obama is “cagey” next round. But I don’t expect it. I fully expect Obama is full attack mode, and apparently unlike you, believe Romney fully aware of that fact.
You missed my very last sentence – a fair and balanced forum. Your analogy is specious and I spoke nothing of arrogance. Romney should prepare as he always does.
Since you seem to have a penchant for sports, here it is. If I line up the San Fransisco 49ers vs. Grambling, I fully expect the 49ers to win if the refereeing sound.
I got a trunk full of quatloos here. What odds are you giving Biden v. Ryan? I’ll start out with 100,000 on Ryan.
Cagey? That thinking is not merely delusional, it’s mind numbing puss flowing from an MSM inflicted head wound. I do not say this out of sarcasm or meanness. I had a conversation with my otherwise mature and intelligent sister last night who is convinced that Obama was play acting Wednesday night as a way of “drawing Romney in for the kill in the next debate.” Seriously. Then she asked me if I would be watching the Oreilley/Stewart debate. The point is a huge segment of the population who look and behave as responsible adults with jobs and family responsibilities have been so drawn in to pop media that it is their reality. When confronted with the cognitive dissonance of a massive failure of Teh Won to keep up his end of an adult conversation they will construct a Seinfeld-like sitcom scenario in their minds to fill the gap. “Cagey” indeed. And may God help us – these people vote.
Did you ever stop to think how just about all of our preisdents of the last fifty or so years have had “Daddy issues.”
“Big shoes to fill” JFK, both Bushes
Auhoritarian father: Carter
Absentee/abusive: Reagan, Cliton, Obama
Don’t know about Ford’s Dad or LBJ
Ford was adopted. Born “Leslie King,” his alcoholic abusive father was gone from his life when he was sixteen days old.
Don’t forget McCain — who really had no reason to run for President, except to please daddy.
my fil was a japanese pow, so I’ve some interest in the psychology of long-term pow’s. (and the way asain’s treated their pows is VERY different than how the germans did.) I think mccain’s very messed up by his pow experiences. that he had to psychologically submit to his captors, and he never really overcame it.
Obama is and always has been a poseur. He has fooled and flim-flammed his way into the most powerful office on this planet. It took some brains and ability to pull that off but he is bright at best and not truly brilliant. He failed in the debate because he was fearlessly challenged for the first time in his life. Notice how bravely he now trash-talks Romney from the safety of his podium where nobody can challenge him with facts or reason. His humiliation was public and I have no doubt he is burning inside. I think he is afraid now.
Frank or Mitt. Who would you rather have for your child’s mentor?
I don’t think you have to examine much more than Ubama’s “Choom Boys” days to know what he’s all about.
And the main contrast between the two that you need to consider is that Romney doesn’t speak fluent Arabic and doesn’t believe that the morning call to prayer “is the prettiest sound on earth.”
Good Read! Interesting angle. The other problem is of this child who has never been challenged. Throughout his education, he was protected by the Marxists who saw the possibilities, but never let him learn to defend his Ideology, sans the echo chamber. The media has become the same figure, in protecting him from any actual debate on the Ideology he has had ingrained in him but never tested. The strength of Metal, comes from fire. This Ideologue has never faced the fire, til now and his media protectors couldn’t jump to his aid til it was too late. 70 million people saw that the “Emperor has no clothes”!
The Obama Enemy media is in full shrieking spin and attack mode. The Repubs better get some testicular fortitude and fight like Newt or their going to get steam rolled by these people! Here’s a formula that’s a little more aggressive than Newt’s: http://paratisiusa.blogspot.com/2012/09/an-open-letter-to-those-who-should-know.html?spref=tw
God Bless America!
“The Repubs better get some testicular fortitude and fight like Newt…”
No. I say this as a supporter of Newt during the primaries. The only way to defeat Obama — as Mitt did on Wed — is to smile and kill.
Newt says what I want to hear. I truly think he’s brilliant and insightful. He attacks the way I want the Leftys attacked. But Newt’s methods don’t take him to the finish line. Mitt’s methods do.
Mitt’s conquest was attacking the issues, not attacking Obama, all the time being exceedingly pleasant. Obama was killed with kindness and, while he was going down, he had no idea what hit him.
Yes, you are probably right. I too supported Newt. Oh, how he would have devastated the One in debate! But he is a bit too feral for Mr. and Mrs. America and all the boats at sea. Plus, he has gone off on some strange tangents and in that regard has shown himself to be less disciplined than Romney.
Still, to have seen him mop the floor and left Hussein a-stuttering: almost worth the price of losing the election. A partisan’s ecstasy!
Roger, I love it.
Now I admit I have been making my living most of my life as a novelist and a screenwriter, so I may be no more than “creating characters” here, but consider this:
What we have before us in these debates is an almost archetypal confrontation –between a man who was and is an exceptionally good father and a man who was deserted by his.
Poetically, I think this is 1000% right and provides an excellent handle on the situation.
Factually, well, Obama is also a father, of two girls, who are apparently getting a reasonable upbringing from what we can see of them – though how much of that is Barack and how much Michelle and others, I surely can’t say. And what of Mitt’s father George? I don’t know much about that, but it happened in another era, and was certainly more solid than Barack’s.
Don’t apologize (you weren’t) for “creating characters”, what you were really doing is *recognizing* characters, which is exactly what can give literature its highest values and greatest insights. And I think you’ve scored one here.
I was thrilled with the debate, but some of the discussion here seems over the top – sort of like “da bears – minimum 8-peat” referring to the SNL skit of goofy Bear fans boasting about their team. Obama has been deep in the hole before, most notably in the weeks immediately before the Dem primaries started in 2008. And as much as Romney supporters deride the other side for demonizing and caricaturizing Romey, they do it also to Obama.
As far as next week’s debate. I have little doubt that Ryan is far more gifted in thought and deed than Mr. Biden. But the pre-game confidence people are showing in this being a wipeout reminds me of all the Republican chatter before the Jack Kemp / Al Gore debate in 1996. That was a disaster for Kemp. Biden has been on the debate stage many times more than Ryan, and in 2008 he relied on about 11 smoothly delivered misstatements to pull off a tie with Sarah Palin. He might be a goofball, but it would be a mistake to underestimate him in a debate.
Indeed, Democrats underestimated Romney. They got to see the person that convinced me last year that he should be supported. Romney supporters should not make the same mistake of underestimating either Biden or Obama’s ability to recover.
Thing is, some of us have been pro Romney for a while now. We are fed of with the people who say there is no difference between Obama and Romney. I was ready to support whoever emerged from the primary, but when Romney picked Ryan, that was all I needed to know about his sincerity. So, yeah, we are smiling. With so many people ready to call Obama the winner before we have even voted, can you really blame us?
Last night a person who would never vote Republican commented on how bad the debate was. I choked back a laugh and said I wasn’t surprised she felt that way. She said she doesn’t think she will vote this year. This person was a huge John Edwards supporter last time around – this is one disappointed liberal. I didn’t gloat in front of her, but here with the like-minded, why not?
Of course anything could happen between now and November. Let us savor this debate a while longer.
I suppose the next debates will tell us more, but I can’t shake the feeling I got when watching O’s dismal performance in the first debate. Like a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar and thinking “the jig is up”
Spoken like a novelist, the best of whom are — like yourself, Mr. Simon — psychologists without the degree. Here is a less compassionate but equally succinct view:
http://www.city-journal.org/2012/eon1005ak.html
Sans teleprompter, adoring academics and a fawning press, Obama is defenseless and out of his depth. His only remaining weapons are sneer and temper. They will soon be on greater display than that which we are presently seeing. Considering your post, Roger, one wonders what kind of subconscious longing and surface rage Obama must feet when face-to-face with Romney.
The Al Gore hypothesis (oxygen deprivation) seemed silly to me, as someone who has lived in the Denver area. Thousands of people get off airplanes everyday in Denver and go into town and do their work without spending an extra day for altitude adjustment. But one thought does strike me. Mr. Obama is a cigarette smoker in private. Obama supporters are correct, that when you are President you are subject to extraordinary pressures no one else faces. You take a few nights in a row with little sleep and intense pressure from your day job, go to Denver with smoking impaired lungs, and do so underestimating your opponent, and yes, I think the body refuses to cooperate. I bet a brain scan would show a much richer oxygen level in Romney on Wednesday than in the President.
The effective altitude in a pressurized jet airliner is commonly in the 3-5000′ range and it is permissible for it to go as high as an effective 7000′. The only way Denver’s altitude would make any real difference would be if you were engaging in any intense physical activity, e.g, athletics.
When I was Comrade Obama’s age I was an advocate in labor negotiations, labor arbitrations, and labor board hearings, pretty stessful stuff and your day was a lot longer than a 90 minute debate, 12 hours was pretty common. I lived on airplanes and in hotels and hotel bars. I smoked two packs of Winstons a day and spent most evenings with a Winston in one hand and a glass of scotch in the other; didn’t slow me down a bit. If you can’t hack it, you fall out.
Roger Simon and James Taranto must have had lunch together. Mr. Taranto was making a similar argument.
I saw fear too. REmember when you heard:
You don’t trod on Superman’s cape,
You don’t spit in the wind,
You don’t pull the mask off the ole Lone Ranger, and
You don’t mess around with Jim.
It’s a warning against arrogance – but Obama has done all of the above, and then Superman pivots – to see the cretin who steps on his cape….cringing in fear. I saw Obama’s fear response. The ultimate Omega Male….cowering.
I think Obama has learned to his sorrow that most people don’t agree with him when he is honest. So he has to be very careful in his responses.
Which is too bad. I am the only republican ever it seems, who understood what he mean’t by ‘you didn’t build that’ bridge. This country was built by hard working people over two centuries. Its trite but spend a little time in most any asian shithole and you will appreciate what our grandfathers died building a whale of a lot more. ‘We’ inherited it and ‘We’ owe our kids the same deal we got from our parents just like Mitt inherited his millions we inherited a great country.
Which doesn’t mean Obama isn’t a twerp, but did at least at one time say something that is correct.
–well, he could’ve added ”all by yourself” to the sentence. Then there’d've been no controversy, and no widespread sense that he was trying to drain pride of accomplishment, and inject guilt of exploitation, into the can-do fraction of the people.
No, it would still be the same sentence with the same underlying greed. They are saying that you should share some of your rewards with them. Notice that they are not offering to share some of the risk and work. They hide their greed by saying you have to “give back”.
Yes, out forefathers built things… and they got to keep the rewards for it. The things they built were the “giving back”. When an enterprising man builds something, it doesn’t just go away when he’s gone. Along the way, in the building of his dreams, he has created opportunity and prosperity for others, as well as for himself. Nothing special needs to be done to “give back”. It’s built in.
Yes, when you put it that way it IS trite. But then why bother saying it in the first place?
This was a gaffe, like Bill Clinton saying Obama’s proposals were a “fairy tale”. Absolutely true, but it came out wrong and Clinton was roasted for it. That was Obama’s gaffe and he’s paying for it.
Mitt gave his inheritance to charity..
I think you are on to something, Roger. And most of the comments here that seem to offer a different theory about the two of them can stand without being in contradiction to yours. Very “Greek” indeed. The abandoned son syndrome may lie behind Obama’s other so numerous failings and pathologies, as may Dinesh Desousa’s anticolonialist theory explain Obama’s politics. The tragedy is seen to be of epic proportions when we realize that Obama is not alone in his abandonment – the divorce rate in this country is near 50 percent, and it has to be that an alarming and tragic number of Americans have had to deal with parental abandonment growing up. Perhaps that is why Obama has been so popular, so many people recognize someone like themselves. We are doomed if we don’t restore the health of the family in this country. That is where it all begins.
One thing we all need to remember here is that Obama’s train wreck of a childhood parallels the lives of a whole bunch of folks who live all around us. If all the boomers who are working on their second or third marriage or have out of wedlock grandkids vote for Barry he’s in like the cat burglar. And that’s what’s really sad.
Just as a reminder when Pat Moynihan wrote his piece about the impact of wholesale welfarism on the urban family in 1965 the rate of illegitimate births in the African-American community was 42%. Now it’s 42% for all the rest of us. And the AA rate is 70+. Look at divorce rates as well. And savings. and a whole host of other social indicators that are nosediving. We just may have lot the ability to stick to the job and get it done.
IMHO Senator Moynihan was the last great thinker on that side of the aisle, a classical liberal and a gentleman. He also predicted the effects if society in general continued to mimic Afro-American society’s worst tendencies. Many of us have and he was 100% correct.
This is why I preach that we should go back to casting shame on those who have kids out of wedlock, and on those who give up on marriage the first time the road gets a little rough. Peer pressure is a powerful thing, but today it pushes folks in self-destructive directions under the guise of compassion.
Dr. Sowell in his book on “Black Rednecks …” and Ann Coulter in “Mugged” both talk about how much of “black culture” is the vestigial remains of the old rural Southern white trash or cracker culture. In fact, going all the way back to the days of slavery even the slaves looked down on the poor whites and especially the unlanded whites. After the Civil War the rural South was a land of poverty, disease, ignorance, xenophobia, and racism. In 1900 only four Southern states had compulsory education and they only through what would now be elementary school. WWI did much to bring The South back into the major culture of the rest of the Nation. WWI also demonstrated how woefully ignorant and unsocialized many Southerners were, so much so that they were useless as soldiers. After WWI, the Southern educational system, white and black, moved to ruthlessly suppress the ignorant, violent redneck culture. I was in public school in the waning days of Jim Crow schools in Georgia in the ’50s and ’60s; there were desks in rows, kids in them, and teachers were addressed as ‘Mam and Sir, a situation enforced with liberal use of pointers, rulers, and paddles. Saying “ain’t” or using a double negative was likely to send you home with a welt. I went to school with some kids whose parents were illiterate and with whom your farm animals weren’t safe, but they, by God, knew how to behave in school and at public events. The South was less than enthusiastic about either enforcing compulsory schooling for blacks or materially supporting black schools, but even the black school system did a pretty good job of socializing and educating those who actually attended, though, especially in the rural agricultural areas many blacks barely attended school and some didn’t attend at all.
But what happened with the diaspora of rural blacks working in agriculture as the Great Society was implemented and “integration” of schools took hold was that the schools abandoned the socialization role leaving the vestigial redneck culture alive and well in a significant sector of the black populations and to some degree still a factor in the white population. Instead of acting to suppress the destructive culture of ignorance and violence in the name of celebrating diversity and multiculturalism, the major culture was called on the “celebrate” the destructive culture that The South had worked for a generation and more to end. I guess we’re all supposed to be rednecks now.
I too grew up in the Deep South in the fifties, in a small town, and in a neighorhood at the nexus of black, redneck and middle to upper class white culture. I had close relations with blacks growing up (and I don’t mean house servants) and I have spent most of my life working with and living around Southern “Rednecks”. Ann Coulter is quintessentially unqualified to say anything about the South. She is a New York Yankee who went to the Ivy League and has never set foot in the South unless it was to sell one of her poisonous books. She is full of crappola. Black culture is as different from redneck culture as it is from white upper class culture. Just because they grew in the same orchard doesn’t mean they are the same fruit. When we speak of the social problems of blacks these days we are usually referring to those large numbers of blacks who are trapped in the slums of the northern cities. Their problems are largely associated with migration on a massive scale, by people woefully unprepared to make the adjustments required, into cities that had no place for them with people who didn’t understand them and didn’t (and still don’t) want them. That has little or nothing to do with some kind of redneck culture they allegedly brought with them. White citizens councils in the South played their own role by accelerating the flood of poor, uneducated blacks by giving them free bus tickets to northern cities with promises of good jobs as domestic servants. The black ghettos of the North are, to some extent, white Southerners’ revenge on the North for desegregation. I would characterize the difference between black culture and redneck as, on the one hand too much dependency, and on the other, too much independence, as in “I don’t need your damn books”, or “take this job and shove it”. As for your assertion that Southern whites in WWI were unfit to be soldiers, I would like to see some attribution on that. Seargent York comes to mind (as does Audie Murphy in WWII, although he was of a later generation).
If schools in the South abandoned their role in socialization after desegregation it must have been because they were overwhelmed with the task of uniting blacks with rednecks in the same room. I graduated from high school just before that happened, but I don’t imagine the teachers had much success at socialization – it was hard enough before desegregation.
Southerners do defense better than they do sense. Sorry, friend, but The South was the Third World until the New Deal and not much better until the late ’50s, early ’60s. For every Alvin York there were ten who couldn’t meet the minimum IQ; go do the research.
The poor, ignorant rural Southern culture was pervasive. Sure there were the old families that had a little land and a lot of pride and knew what regiment great-grandpa served in. Hell, some can claim an RS or two; I can. But those who didn’t have land and some tradition lived in a downward spiral of ignorance and poverty until the New Deal. I know all Republicans are supposed to hate the New Deal, but the primary purpose of much of the New Deal was to deal with the ignorance and poverty of the former Confederacy. Deal with it.
Oh, and that Yankee bitch, Coulter, is just relying on Sowell, so you argument is with him.
Ignorance and poverty, poverty and ignorance, violence and xenophoia, unsocialized, illiterate, even bestiality. Sounds like you’re having a good time, Art. Who are you trying to impress?
“If all the boomers who are working on their second or third marriage or have out of wedlock grandkids vote for Barry he’s in like the cat burglar.”
The first Presidential election that ANY Boomers, those born in ’46, could vote in was ’64 and only in Georgia and Kentucky, the two states that allowed 18 year olds to vote at that time. Goldwater carried Georgia. The first Presidential election that any significant number of ‘Boomers could vote in was ’68 and Nixon won that one. All ‘Boomers born between ’46 and ’54 could vote in ’72 and Nixon won overwhelmingly. All ‘Boomers born before ’58 could vote in ’76, so I guess some of them did help elect Carter, but remember, Carter was the “conservative” Southern governor in the Democrat field. The cutoff for ‘Boomers is generally considered to be ’64 so all but those born in the last two years of the Baby Boomer Era could vote in ’80, and you might recall that Reagan guy won that one. All ‘Boomers could vote in ’84 and Reagan won again, and Bush I in ’88. I think we can assume that some ‘Boomers voted for them. The first ‘Boomer President was Clinton, b. 1947 I think, but again, he was the conservative Southern governor of the Democrat field. You can blame Clinton on ‘Boomers if you want but if we elected him, we sure must have had some help. ‘Course GWB was also a ‘Boomer so if you blame ‘Boomers for eight years of Clinton, you have to blame them for eight years of Bush. Comrade Obama is barely a ‘Boomer chronologically and experientially isn’t one at all. If you want to see who to blame for Comrade Obama’s Presidency, you need to talk to the under 30 crowd and to divorced, single, and never married women. True ‘Boomers, the ones who were college age in the late ’60s, early ’70s, don’t even have kids under 30. If you were a ‘Boomer who could go straight from college to a job in government, academia, media, or some professions in the non-profit sector, you could keep the same dumba** ideas you had smoking dope in a college dorm in ’69; the rest of us had to grow up.
I really do hope you follow through with this idea, in a book of some form and substance.
Obama may not be dumb, but he’s uneducated, narrow-minded and self-righteous. It’s not even clear to me that he believes that much in his socialist ideology. It was a road to this position of power and privilege, which he shows every indication of knowing he doesn’t deserve.
Sure, he has ‘daddy issues’ but so do most sons. After all, the father-son relationship often takes the form of competitiveness, rivalry and wears a love-hate tinge throughout life. The son who only loves his father is not so common, though admirable.
Obama got flustered. Romney surprised him. Obama came in semi-unglued and Romney – possibly also sensing this – pounced.
Occam’s Razor says he’s dumb and kept getting promoted because of race and/or ‘exotic’ background.
Think Chauncey Gardner.
This is why the government has been run by Otto Pilot for the past four years.
“Obama lives in fear of exposure – and thus in fear of Romney who, although rich, is much more the self-made man of the two”
There may be something to this. obama hates Romney, puportedly because the smart, white, good-looking, successful, family-loving, faithful, nice, charitable to a fault, business maesto represents the type of people an angry resentful person like Barry believes have oppressed the downtrodden for centuries; and of course, obama has 6.25% black african blood himself, even though his closest brush with slavery in the family tree is his own slave-owning forefathers.
But it also might well be that obama hates Romney for the same reason that he is such a master at whipping up in his cult…envy.
And he also may very well fear facing someone who has actually succeeded on his own merits at everything he has done in life, rather that having success handed to him because of his skin color, in startling combination with, as Joe Biden has so eloquently discovered, being and articulate.
I know it’s been said many times, but I still think it’s just the classic case of the emperor has no clothes. That’s a century old tale for a reason. Because it has happened before and it’s happening again. How else would he not realize how bad it looks to have golfed 100 times when the majority of the country is truly suffering? If he found out that most of us can barely afford the greens fees for one day of golf, I wouldn’t be suprised if he said, “Let them play polo!”
Why is it that both Marxism and Islam so need to take over the world? To shut it the hell up, so that their chieftans will not have to answer the people’s questions about Marxism and Islam.
Especially now that the communications revolution has fiendishly lit up behind the castle walls and the questions might come up on TV.
Obama’s single defense against the shape of the economy is “I stopped the Bush free-fall, we were losing 800k jobs per month when I came to office”.
You betcha –with Genghis Khan headed toward town, everybody who could get out the other side –did.
it would sure be great if the Romney team would develop a debate-style answer for this critically-important-to-Obama story of his heroic stoppage of those Bush job losses. This hypothetical riposte would ideally reference three facts, one, the role of ACORN in the crisis, two, Obama’s role in ACORN, and three, why so few and such weak prosecutions?
For just one little example, who the heck ever even heard of this bombshell?
http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/01/20/us-usa-holder-mortgage-idUSTRE80J0PH20120120
Thank you for the link. One of the biggest yet underreported stories of this presidential election (as well as the last) is how Obama cozies up to the very people and institutions he demagogues against, and how they have gone along to get along. (I’m looking at you, Wall Street brokerage firms.) Independents and moderates may not have an ideological dog in this fight, but, like Tennessee William’s Big Daddy, they sure hate HY-pocracy and MEN-dacity.
They need to hear more about the kind of connivance you indicate. Hell, even a leftie reporter might get a tingle or two out of pointing it out.
Why is it that both Marxism and Islam so need to take over the world?
It passes the time, y’know?
What shall we do tonight Pinky?
A lot of this analysis is probably true, but does it really matter? Here’s a simpler proposal: head to head Mitt showed himself to be a better alternative than was McCain, and rant and rave though he will, as he has virtually no valid facts to argue, Obama will not be able to overcome that image and fact, if Mitt just does about as well as he did in this appearance.
And a big thank you to Clint Eastwood, who must be grinning like the Cheshire Cat right about now.
Our dysfunctional, biased, press may recover their bearings and double down on their own brands of crazy. I have no intuition on that. Obama may strip naked and duck-walk across the stage next appearance, and Chrissy Matthews will decide it was a brilliant deconstruction of modern mores and far beyond the wit of Mitt to compete with. It could happen. And then Matthews would probably earn a Pulitzer, an Emmy, and the Nobel Peace Prize. Given the yardstick as it applies already to Obambus, why not.
No Christian here, but Milton’s, better to rule in hell than to serve in heaven, comes to mind.
I don’t have to believe in the literal existence of the Devil to notice the devil at work in the course of history. Personify them or resist, the seven sins remain as deadly now as in the days of Hieronymus Bosch.
The seven deadly virtues, those ghastly little traps
Oh no, my liege, they were not meant for me
Those seven deadly virtues were made for other chaps
Who love a life of failure and ennui
Take courage-now there’s a sport
An invitation to the state of rigor mort
And purity-a noble yen
And very restful every now and then
I find humility means to be hurt
It’s not the earth the meek inherit, it’s the dirt
Honesty is fatal, it should be taboo
Diligence-a fate I would hate
If charity means giving, I give it to you
And fidelity is only for your mate
You’ll never find a virtue unstatusing my quo or making my Beelzebubble burst
Let others take the high road, I will take the low
I cannot wait to rush in where angels fear to go
With all those seven deadly virtues free and happy little me has not been cursed

great insight Roger,
read the following to get more of the same:
THE INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF PSYCHO-ANALYSIS-VOLUME 2-1921
A SHORT STUDY OF THE LIFE AND CHARACTER OF MOHAMMED
by OWEN BERKELEY-HILL, Ranchi, India.
The same is valid for the myth of Ishmael, or leaders like Sadam, Arafat, Ghadafi, etc. Perhaps there is something to say about the type of object this part of the world identifies with.
“so all of them sought and found a solution to their respective conflicts in waging a life-long war on the traditions, religious, political and social, of their people”
“This tendency to attack the authority of the father in the realm of religion and politics, as exemplified in the lives of Amenhotep and Mohammed, is not confined to individuals who show no other manifestation of mental derangement, but is now recognized to be a notable symptom of certain varieties of in psychoneurosis”
Great column, Roger.
I agree. Abandonment is HUGE. One of my parents experienced childhood abandonment – it was a verboten topic – but I have often speculated on the meaning of abandonment on my father, and perhaps for the rest of us. I think Dad was ashamed of this his whole life.
My dad was born in 1924. His mother was 18, his father 19. They divorced before the year was up. By 1926 he was abandoned, and spent a few years in the foster system. For Dad’s boyhood, he slept in an uninsulated attic of a relative with two children, a dead husband, and little money. This kind woman, Aunt Gertie, took in little Jackie, another nephew in dire straits, plus her aged father. It was every soul for himself, money-wise.
My dad died of prostate cancer about six years ago. I spent a lot of time with him the last six months of his life. He handled his sickness with aplomb, but in winding up life, reviewed things never spoken of before. I am still filled with sadness that a father could abandon a boy who became such a wonderful man.
My dad did not have a trace of a narcissistic personality. During his boyhood, he followed rules at home and at school (Catholic schools). Gr 1 to Gr 8 was free in the parish, and he worked summers, nights, and Saturdays to pay tuition at an all-boys parochial school in the midwest.
Dad’s childhood lack of money provided incentive to earn money. He caddied for WASPs at the golf club, plus mowing, delivered newspapers, raked leaves, did work neighbors would pay for. He loaded boxes onto UPS trucks, drove new Army trucks in convoys through the Appalachian mountains, and more, by age 18.
Nope. Not a trace of narcissism in my dad.
By the bye, my dad was a university graduate, MBA, and CPA. He taught his daughters the important things in life: how to ride a two-wheeler, catch a fly ball, jitterbug to Glen Miller, and pick a nice husband. Way to go, Dad!
Prayers to your dad.
Thanks, Mr. Buckeye. Dad was a buckeye too. But a UC Bearcat, all the way!
We’re not meant to be rooted until its time. Buckeyes just roll that way… as G-d intended.
Good luck to you and yours.
– such as your father. They are the proverbial salt of the earth. For them, G-d spares an evil city. Now that he is up there, let us pray he can put in a good word for some divine help being sent to Mitt.
Real nice, really nice, in a bunch of different ways.
My dad was born the same year as yours. Only child of poor uneducated parents who never owned a house or car. A WWII vet. He became a model husband, father of seven, scout master, pillar of the church, a tradesman par excellence, a democrat committeeman when such a job required a work ethic and a certain amount of character. I could go on. The point is, as you indicate, we are not mere creatures of our circumstances. God’s grace plays a part, to the extent we are open to it.
GIVE THIS GUY A SECOND NOBEL PEACE PRIZE.
I mean, seriously, did you see the way he didn’t put up a fight.
Through his opposition research, Obama knows full well what kind of a man Mitt Romney is. Mitt and Ann provided their children a warm, loving, nurturing home and the kind of stability children crave and young Barack never knew. His feelings are a mixture of envy, animus and bitterness for what the Romney’s had and his family lacked. But, I’m not sure it’s the “father issues” that weigh most heavily on the man he’s become.
Back in the day, radical white women established their bona fides by hooking up with minority men. Getting pregnant was a bonus. I don’t believe Stanley Ann ever intended that Barack, Sr., be a father to Junior; he was either more or less a sperm donor or a participant in an unintended pregnancy. Later she would fill young Barry’s head with rubbish about his “father” because it served her Marxist illusions. And then she shuffled him off on his grandparents, abandoning him to pursue her own interests.
When Obama discovered the truth about his father, whom did he blame most? The father who turned out not to be the man his son believed him to be or the fantasy-spinning mother? By whom did he feel most betrayed, the father he never knew and seemingly was never meant to know or the mother who simply no longer had sufficient interest in him? As an adult, Barack apparently did not enjoy warm relations with his mother. I don’t think he ever got past his long-festering resentment of her.
Sukie -
FYI: 1) I don’t think there is either a marriage certificate and/or divorce papers for the Obama/Stanley Ann Dunham relationship; 2) There’s probably a doctoral thesis in waiting for how a woman feels when named for a son that her father really wanted instead of her; 3) There’s also probably a doctoral thesis in waiting for how a woman, named for her non-existent brother, treats her own son; 4) A recent book claims, compellingly, that Obama’s real father is Frank Marshall Davis. 5) Before the release of his fraudulent birth certificate, I speculated that Barry might have a different father than he claimed in his ghost-written auto biography: i.e when living a complete lie, why bother to ever tell the truth?
All this is to say, unfortunately, none of us will live long enough to ever find out what really happened to little Barry Soetoro aka Barry Subarkha. “The line forms on the right now that old Mackie’s back in town.”
I seem to recall that Al Gore was coached to be more agressive ,more of an alpha male, when debating Pres.Bush.How did that work out?
Next debate:same players,same result.
After reading many comments about the debate,it makes sense to me now why O kept looking at the moderator. He was expecting to be saved.
If Mitt doesn’t win this election then for sure our country is under some kind
of evil spell.
Anybody who inherits as much dough as he did and then gives it away to charity
surely must have all the Angels on his side.
The kind of spell you’re referring to is called a glamour, and it isn’t necessarily evil. It’s designed to make something or someone look good or better; hence the word “glamorous.”
I’ve been wondering for five years whether someone has been casting glamours over Obama. Yes, it sounds insane, but no more so than his election and deification by the adult equivalents of shrieking teenage girls. Note how many of his cover-shots include some sort of halo behind his head. It might be a round window, or the presidential seal, or something else. But, the intent of the photographers is to subliminally conflate him with saints, messiahs, angels, and other religious figures. And it has worked. Many people actually believe he IS a messiah, a “light-worker,” an avatar, a demigod. These people are certifiably insane.
The casting of a glamour, if possible, would explain a great deal. Mass delusions are never pleasant, but this particular mass delusion is potentially genocidal, even world-shattering. The PR experts and workers responsible should be held accountable, preferably behind bars. The psychological strategies involved, the tricks, the neurolinguistic programming, the fictions, the fake autobiographies, the missing documents, the forged documents, the rock star marketing–all indicate an orchestrated, extremely expensive campaign to hoodwink the American people. Would those responsible stoop to little magic? Would they not???
Tom Lehrer has an alternative theory. He explains it thusly:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mScdJURKGWM
Forget the spoken intro, go right to the song about midway:
“His rivals used to say quite a bit that as a monarch he was most unfit
but still in all they had to admit that he loved his mother.”
Well-written and compassionate analysis, thanks Mr. Simon.
I’ve read every one of the more than one hundred thoughtful comments (and a few loony ones) and I’m struck by how much speculation continues to swirl around the man who calls himself Obama. Obama is the outline in a coloring book and we’ve all been handed crayons to see if we can put flesh and blood and humanity on this starkly nebulous individual. However this analysis is tangential of the problem we have with Obama. Many of us know damaged people who somehow manage to contain the damage to one generation, absorb the shocks of their own experiences and become productive people. Meanwhile people who have been given every advantage of family and background and have opportunity to become high functioning contributors to society have found tremendous outlets in debauchery. Ted Bundy came from a ‘normal’ family.
This essay treats Obama’s disadvantages as weaknesses, but I disagree, he has forged out all the disadvantages and steeled himself devoid of compassion, laying bare the skeleton of ambition powered by ruthlessness. This forge was a perfect crucible of abandonment salted with bad actors and corrupt thinkers. He is both a product of his environment and the emotionally disfigured construct of hapless DNA. Have you met his parents the porn star and the punk?
He is ignorant but not unintelligent. He decides which facts he must know and doesn’t concern himself with the rest. And this was the trap of his own making.
Anyone who has ever taught a class where a test was ultimately administered has seen the look that was on Obama’s face night of the debate. He’s the kid who either didn’t study or studied the wrong material. It is also the face of the kid who sneaked a copy of the test in order to cheat, and was shocked that the teacher used a different test. Obama studied the wrong material. (Maybe he got his hands on the wrong copy of the test.) That’s an extra special kind of caught. Not only are you not going to be allowed to cheat, but I already knew what you were doing before you could do it. Nailed. That’s the kind of I’m-so-in-your-head thinking that should charge rent. That was Obama’s face.
He himself told us that the Romney he ‘expected’ did not show up. He mistakenly identifies his construct of Romney as the real one, but the one that he debated was ‘the impostor’. He couldn’t counter the impostor because he only knew about the ‘real’ one. This guy, this new and better Romney was speaking Austrian!!! (Or that’s what Obama thought because he couldn’t hear with that little inner voice yelling “how did this happen?”.)
Whaddya gonna do now – complain about the people who gave you the wrong test?
Romney pwned Obama and Lehrer and but good, took them to the woodshed good and proper, both of them. But they won’t be fooled again.
They are going to rig the test a different way next time. It won’t matter. You can’t unring a bell. And Lordy Lordy, did Romney ever ring his bell!
Roger’s explanation is very intriguing and could also apply to Affirmative Action Syndrome. I think another reason for the fear is that Obama knew he was in danger of being exposed. This hatred he’s supposed to have for Romney is probably rooted in fear and his knowledge that he is the naked emperor, covered up only by the cordon that the press has thrown around him. The press couldn’t help him in Denver, and they won’t be able to help in the other debates, either.
But the will try!
I was once directed by an affirmative action manager to help get another affirmative action employee started on a complicated task. I sat down with said employee and laid out the process and opened up the resource folder to him on the server. The result? I was raked over the coals of racism for not “showing” said employee how to complete said task, i.e. doing it for him. That nonsense spiraled so out of control the customers stopped coming to us for estimates and engineering output as they could rely neither on completeness nor correctness from our department. It took a non-affirmative action, conservative black manager to come in and fire his predecessor and find new position for others where they would do less damage. The lawyers showed up to sue anyway and a good black man found himself moved to an individual contributor position for his trouble.
If anything positive comes from the Obama presidency, I hope it’s a new look at the wreckage caused by handing two generations of minorities (and women) an extended spoiled childhood as a substitute for a healthy productive life.
The uber-cool man on the outside may be suffering intensely on the inside. No wonder he becomes a master at dissembling! How troubling it must be for him to come in contact with a truly self-assured man! The drama of the fatherless child, one of the ramifications of absurdities such as feminism! By extension, the demise of Obama could also start the unraveling of the folly of our pretenders of the left, at least for some time. Back to the real hope?
Campaigning for a second term, Obama has had to skew to the middle class and more to the center. It’s clear it’s not in his heart, the issues concerning the middle classes, nor small businesspersons. He’d rather be ranting about race and inner city problems (if he cared enough on that score, he’d be back in the city in the trenches instead of on the golf course). All of this showed in the first debate — something I’m thankful for.
For all of us that are educated in America, I was very thankful that Wednesday night’s debate happened the way that it did. What we saw on Wednesday was a true testimony of a character that will do anything or say anything to appeal to the American public for votes. A character that will reinvent itself completely at any place or time , on a whim. A character that totally disregards 47% of Americans behind closed door while appealing to that same 47% in public for their support. A character that claims that the 47% of Americans thinks of themselves as victims in private while on the national stage, claims that they are the ones that he will only fight for. A character that panders to the rich behind closed door while appealing to the average Americans in public.
Who is this character, you might ask? What I can unequivocally tell you is that this character has no character. When you write off almost half of the population behind closed doors and try to appeal to that same population in public, you are a fake and a hypocrite. You lack integrity in any sense of the word. You tell the American public that you cannot be trusted with the highest office of the land.
So who is this character, you might ask? Search deep within the better part of your conscience and you will discover who this character is. It’s in the ugly part of all of us but some of us are able to allow our better souls to overcome it and free ourselves from this dark part of who we are.
He does not disregard anyone. He is just telling the truth that you don’t like to hear. As simple as that…
Blah, blah, blah.
ovomit is the one that doesn’t give a damn about anyone but himself.
ovomit is the lying, traitorous scumbag that wants this country destroyed and kissing koranimal ass.
People that this late in the day, still refuse to see or admit they were snookered by the muslim slimeball are just plain stupid. Because it wasn’t even a good con. How stupid do you have to be to fall for that dirtbags BS?
Blah, blah, blah is the only thing that I got out of this from a far right wingnut basket case.
Rob another Left Wing moonbat who is quite happy to see 30 million Taxpayers supporting 270 million feckless BENEFIT SCROUNGERS and instead of trying to encourage and help the feckless support THEMSELVES follows the lunatic ideas of a FAILED Messiah and corrupt Democratic Party in crying out for MORE MORE MORE from the 30 million.
Please refer to my answer above to sablegsd.
Rob, wouldn’t we have a better country if we at least tried to maintain as an ideal that ‘everyone should at least try to pull his own weight’?
I totally agree that everyone should at least pull his own weight. The best way to start this is by U.S. company CEOs with foreign subsidiaries bringing back foreign profits that are subject to 35% U.S. corporate taxes rather than keeping these profits in offshore accounts and pay zero U.S. corporate taxes indefinitely. Now that is truly pulling your own weight! It’s also the right thing to do in the worst economic disaster since the Great Depression.
What do you think, CEOs of America? Are you patriotic or do we continue to keep begging China to keep footing our bills? Should we build the country we love or be a total embarrassment to China?
Lefty idiot, your messiah, The Won, is a complete contrivance and you question Gov. Romney’s integrity and veracity? How do you lefty punks live and be so stupid? Do you feed yourself inassisted? Are you able to leave the house unaccompanied? The biggest problem America has today is that people like you can vote.
This notion that President Obama has created a complete welfare state in America is as ridiculous as Art getting a Chance at making a reasonable point. This president has not expanded on welfare or entitlement programs since he took office. If anyone can find some facts with links to anything other than Fox or PJ Media (you get my point), then you will have made a valid point but until then –
Please refer to my answer above to sablegsd and Pragmatist.
If you dislike Obama that much, Rob, why are you cheer-leading for him?
You got it all wrong, Akatsushi, what I dislike is an everchanging puppet running on everchanging platforms.
“Rob” is a paid troll, sent here to disrupt the comment thread. Do not feed the troll.
Mr. Simon, you echo my thoughts during the debate almost exactly. Every time Obama looked down at the podium, when he smirked like a punk teen, when he glanced longingly at the door and pleadingly at the moderator, I kept thinking, “OMG, he’s AFRAID. He’s the President of the United States and he is afraid of his opponent.” Kudos, sir.
I suppose, now that you mention it and I can hypothesize wildly, that Obama’s abandonment by father in part leads to how he can never credit his opponents with good intentions, why he says stuff like “Republicans want more dirty air and water, and more people to go without insurance and die”. It’s not even political, it’s personal, he doesn’t even care if it’s true cuz it feels so good to lash out, act out.
As a community organizer he always demonized the opponent, whatever Alinsky’s parental history was it’s part of his system that Obama soaked up. So these Freudian urges of his were only reinforced.
And of course the USA is the biggest Daddy of them all. Obama now gets to go around the world, bowing Daddy’s sins away.
And in Los Angeles, this would qualify as a medical/psychiatric excuse so he could legally buy his marijuana. Maybe that’s one more reason he keeps visiting, someone watch him, see if he bypasses Roscoe’s this time and goes to the adjacent “clinic”.
Yeah, this armchair pop-psychoanalysis stuff is tons of fun.
This makes perfect sense to me and intuitively feels like the truth. I like your ending, Roger…that the steady “good father” will prevail. This battle is truly epic in scope.
I have no pity for ovomit. Lots of people had worse childhoods than his and they didn’t grow up to be commie, America hating racist koranimals. He has no pity for this country or her people and is doing an admiral job of killing us. I wouldn’t shed a tear if he croaked tonight.
Lord have mercy on your soul and I mean that in the best way possible. This hate that exudes in a time where technology still far exceeds the human mentality is so unbecoming. It’s like comparing inflation to the average wage. It still doesn’t add up in a time where we have space stations, had walked on the moon, are able to view the farthest reaches of the sky through a telescope, and have landed on Mars with a Mars rover.
It’s unbecoming that these kinds of technologies are created by humans with a low capacity for tolerance. It just doesn’t add up.
Born to a Black, part ARAB, Kenyan, British Citizen, Muslim, alcoholic, polygamous, womanizing, State Department designated Undesirable Mooching Alien, absentee Father and an underage, to bestow her American Citizenship on him, mother and adopted by an Indonesian Muslim STEPFATHER. ALL members of BOTH his Paternal Families are MUSLIMS even his Kenyan Grandmother, who pre election his LYING Election Committee told us was a Christian, has not long returned (AFTER his election of course) from the completing the Haj at Mecca. This boy brought up in wealthy privilege and who has connections through his “Father??” to Slave TRADERS has nothing whatsoever in common with the average hyphenated African-American except maybe a career facilitated by Affirmative Action.
He was brought up and schooled as a Muslim in BOTH the State and the Catholic run MULTI FAITH schools he attended in Jakarta. BTW when Barry was in Indonesia you had to be an Indonesian CITIZEN to go to State School, so maybe THATS why the Passport , College and Student application, results and loan records are very carefully and jealously HIDDEN(talk about Romney’s Tax returns he has got nothing on what Obambi is HIDING). His contemporaries at school , one of whom is the current head of Garuda Airlines the Indonesian national airline, remember him as a devout Mosque going MUSLIM.
He took KORANIC STUDIES, a subject ONLY Muslims take at school, and MENGAGI ( the study of the correct pronounciation of Koranic Arabic and which only DEVOUT Muslims usually bother with) at the Mosque a fact he himself ADMITS in his book DREAMS. He is on record as saying ‘If the Political will goes against them I WILL STAND WITH THE MUSLIMS” and also “the Muslim call to prayer is one of the MOST beautiful sounds on earth” .
He can also recite, and has frequently been heard to do so, the Shahada in perfectly accented Koranic Arabic , must be a result of his MENGAGI studies. According to Muslims anyone who says the Shahada, which calls Allah the PARAMOUNT God (which betrays Islams POLYTHEISTIC roots or else why say ‘Paramount’ unless there are there other LESSER Gods????) and claims Mohammad as his messenger , IS A MUSLIM.
So who is Barry HUSSEIN Soetero Kardashian America’s first Gay, Celebrity USURPER President the man who tells us he has ‘ALWAYS been a Christian” well for a start he is a BLATANT BAREFACED LIAR.
It also raises the questions:-
“Can a 20 YEAR member of a RACIST, anti White, Anti Semitic, Anti American “Black Liberation Theology” Church, which is closer to Islam than it is to Christianity, be truly considered Christian? ”
I think NOT.
and -
“Why if he indeed is no longer Muslim , as he most definitely and conclusively was, have Muslims not issued a FATWA against him calling for his death as an APOSTATE.”
Please refer to my reply for 101. sablegsd. You deserve the same reply.
…although rudely stated, what WAS stated is closer to the (un-becoming) truth (The Won’s records should be unsealed and examined by the citizens of the nation he “deigns to lead”) than somebody’s navel gazing, daisy weaving, ‘tolerance,’ hand wringing, tsk-tsking bleeding heart; just as unbecoming as someone using ‘technology’ to express an opinion with which p(iece) ‘n luv hippies disagree.
Of course, you can simply do as I’m simply told to do, when ever-pushing-the-envelope liberal media broadcasts ‘un-becoming’ trash disguised as art form and freedom of expression/speech: change the channel.
Now now Nancy Boy Rob don’t get your knickers in a twist again Mummy will be so angry with you.
I can agree that Obama is a wreck psychologically, but imo his real problem in the debates is that he can’t say what he really believes because he knows that his socialistic ideology won’t go over well with the majority of Americans. He is forced to mouth pro-business, pro-economy platitudes that he doesn’t believe in, and they come out of his mouth with as much enthusiasm as you would expect for empty rhetoric without a soul. What he really wants to say is that it’s good to ‘spread the wealth around’, and that the ‘private sector is doing just fine’ and can stand to be taxed more…but he can’t say these things because he knows the effect that these statements will have on the electorate. He’d like to tell Romney “so what if the companies like Solyndra end up failing…I’m spreading the wealth around, and that’s what’s important”.
But he can’t say that. He has to hide what he really believes.
Romney, on the other hand, can proclaim his ideology loud and clear with no obfuscation and with pride. The contrast between the two was stark. Romney was speaking from his heart, while Obama was spouting memorized talking points.
Had the same thought yesterday while thinking about this article and thread. He knew he had to self-censor and it ticked him off, but he was helpless to say what he really believes.
And this isn’t going to change. After 20 years of being spoon-fed Jeramiah White’s anti-Israel BS, how authentic are his pro-Israel platitudes going to sound during the foreign policy debate? What in the world is he going to say about Libya? Get out the popcorn.
He’ll say, roughly: “The ME is a dangerous and complex area in which the United States has many important interests, none more important than stability and, of course, the security of one of our closest allies in the region, Israel.”
“While we seek a just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, it is vital that Israel’s adversaries know that the United States will always stand beside that country with which we share common values. I pledge to do so in my second term just as I have in my first.”
“Prime Minister Netanyahu and I maintain an open and valuable dialogue in which we each air our views within a framework of commitment and respect.”
Then, if the debate is over and he remembers what he said, he’ll probably heave.
I think Romney consciously and deliberately got inside Obama’s head: It is no accident that Romney, the father-figure, called out Obama, the son-figure, by talking about the lies his own five sons told him: “Dreams From My Father” has a nightmare: “Lies from My Sons.
Methinks a more plausible reason for Obama’s no-show is because he is absolutely devoid of a reservoir of knowledge on most subjects except Marxist theory, including those areas of responsibility the American people hired him to manage. Let us not forget that Obama spent his entire life surrounding himself with Marxists like himself. Typical of all Marxists, the Marxists in Obama’s posse firmly believe that they know everything, which is why they refuse to know anything. Moreover, let us be reminded that Obama has a shamelessly slothful work ethic that makes Mr. Slug seem like a workaholic. His slothful work ethic is perfectly compatible with his Marxist intellectual arrogance, which makes Obama the Perfect Idiot.
I agree 100% but think the dynamic between the 2 must also take into account that Romney, himself the “good father,” was also raised by a good father. It is no coincidence that on the morning of the debate Ann Romney gave an interview on CNN about what Mitt does to prepare for a debate & she said the first thing he does right before the debate starts is that he goes to the podium & writes the word “DAD” on the paper there so not only can he remember that his dad, with whom he had such a wonderful relationship, was there with him, but to also remember to try to perform in way in which his dad would be proud. She must have said the word “Dad” 10 times in a 2 minute clip.
Romney’s a good man & a good father — he’s also smart enough to have had a psyche profile on Obama worked up.
Simon nails it — that’s why Obama couldn’t look at Romney, he both fears and loathes the big successful white guy. To see a cartoon parody of Obama’s fear and paralysis at work, check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5_dGdk7xLw&feature=youtube_gdata
I don’t buy the psychology, Roger. I happen to think that Obama was just hopelessly outclassed by a far more knowledgeable adversary. Obama cannot manage without prepared speeches and/or a teleprompter.
Another thing. All those years of smoking pot and cocaine would surely have dulled him to some extent. I think you and others grossly over rate his IQ.
Obama’s budget lost 97-0 in the Senate. A few simple questions would show Obama is a kid with an unlimited credit card who doesn’t even know his balance. Romney must focus on the debt and explain what zero interest does to the “folks”. During the 90 minutes of the debate Obama will borrow 1.9 billion! 44 cents of every dollar he spends he borrows. If forced to speak using real numbers, his ignorance becomes obvious.Y
Love the article and the comments, and here is my take:
In spite of writing (or having someone else to) a book about his father, The Wohn is terrified by him. When he was sworn into office The Wohn could barely say “Hussein” (a name from his father) and his relations with his family on the father side are non-existent.
The Wohn is terrified of becoming his father (a no-good alcoholic) hoping everybody forgets who his family is by removing them from his life but I think that like in the case of young Oedipus, Faith may have a word to say.
Even if he wins this election, what will happen with The Wohn when he won’t be president? His petulant, arrogant attitude won’t win too many friends in his own party, as for the opposition he already dismissed it as “Flat Earth Society”.
No matter what he does, Barry will become a “former” with a lot of people slowly turning their backs from him, and I think that on the podium he had a glimpse at his future: a forgotten alcoholic, just like his father.
Starting hearing about Obama’s dislike of Cantor and Ryan earlier. Add Romney to the Nixon like list. He definitely does not want to get into any fact based discussion with any of these men. He’s shallow and knows his old smooth ways only work inside the halls of academia or on the fools currently posing as journalist. Mitt’s done enough interviews with guys of O’s type. He reads him like a book, and dismisses him for the bloviating fool he is.
Gary Johnson, who was governor of New Mexico for two terms, also has two grown and successful children. If you really want to send a message to the next President that you want small government, then, if you live in one of the 44 swing states where your vote has no chance of changing the outcome, you should send a signal to the Republicans and Democrats by voting for Gary Johnson.
Adaptability is a hallmark of intelligence, and Obama does not possess intellect to an appreciable degree. When confronted face to face by a man whose very existence is a reproach to him, much less with enough intellect to buy and sell him a couple times, with nowhere to run and nowhere to hide, Obama’s perseverating, rote response was all he had.
Right on –there stood …the enemy –the PLUTOCRAT –and Obama knew he needed to, but simply could not muster himself to do, what his whole life has been a promise to do, what such a confrontation would naturally require him to do, that is to speak power to truth!
His problem is this stupid political system that lets them plutocrats talk back.
Whew! First time on this website, read all comments (the good, the bad and the ugly). I have always thought Obama to be the poster child for affirmative action, and my worst nightmare come true: a feckless, elitist liberal with no deep-rooted American values yucking it up in the White House; playing at being POTUS; appointing all his fringe lunatic friends to DC posts so they could join the party; and essentially trashing the country with absurd policies and actions.
Hurry November!
I would not be surprised if an “urgent” event appears that allows Obama to cancel out of the last two debates. His only hope is unchallenged campaigning.
I think Barry HUSSEIN Soetero’s Grandfather deserves far more looking in to he is being given a free pass by the Lame stream EneMedia of course. But this COMMUNIST pimped out his very young daughter to his Commie buddies Black and White and also put his young grandson, the USURPER, into the loving arms of a Bisexual, Communist, Black Racist Pornographer Frank Marshall Davis. Such behaviour should have resulted in Legal charges against both of them.
When I heard Romney mention his 5 sons, I immediately thought that in the culture young Obama was raised in, and the cultures he apparently admires (non-Western, Third World, Muslim) that alone would be a status marker. A man with 5 sons is ADMIRED in those cultures – Indonesia, Africa, Pakistan, you name it. It would also be true in China; I know it would be in India, where I lived for a few years. It’s not to denigrate Obama’s two daughters (we’re Westerners, after all) but I wonder if *he* immediately felt outclassed by the man opposite him. And it just isn’t his kids; Obama is surrounded by women, governed by women, and on some level he might feel ashamed of it. At any rate, it could be a psychological Achilles heel that left him weak and confused at the moment of truth.
A man with five sons may have been admired in India several decades back.
Today, he would be a JOKE.
Does it get funnier the more sons? Where is the first giggle –at three?
Thanks , I’ve just been searching for information about this topic for a while and yours is the best I have discovered so far. However, what concerning the conclusion? Are you sure in regards to the source?|What i do not understood is in reality how you are no longer actually much more well-liked than you might be right now. You’re so intelligent.
An astounding observation and analysis. Thank you. I certainly don’t hate anything about Barack Obama, but I do hate having someone with his baggage and burdens, and his apparent inability to work effectively with people, in the Oval Office.
