Day of Tragedy

June 13, 2008 - 7:44 am - by Roger L Simon

I’m trying to decide which is worse – this or this?

Okay, the latter.

    It’s the little intangibles Roger.

You had Spike Lee in a Yankee uniform rutting against Boston.

Last night the Lakers suffered the largest score reversal in the history of basketball.

It was almost these same Yankees playing today that lost 4 games in a row to Boston just a few short years ago in the worst collapse in a division championship in the history of baseball.

    Coincidence?

  2. I can’t help it: my downstairs neighbors are so obnoxious, I’m rooting for Boston to win just to shut them up.

  3. 3. Jeff

Definitely the latter. I doubt many people are celebrating the latter with a big, fat smile on their face. As for the former, well…you should have been at my house!

This is another reminder that I should not be betting on sporting events. I predicted that the Lakers would beat the Celtics in six games. Who knew that Paul Pierce could play defense—and Kobe Bryant doesn’t walk on water?

  5. 5. Captain Hate

This was kind of a no-win/no-lose series for me since I don’t like Kobe but hate the Celtics. Pierce is still the mutt that was on a team that only won 24 games last year; people that get introduced as “The Truth” just don’t have those kind of years. And all the 15 year-olds that flood the innerwebz with Kobe is better than MJ can permanently stfu.

On a slightly related topic, I’m disappointed that the post on PJM about the woes of the NBA hasn’t attracted more comments. Now I’m worried that jackass Stern might not have to walk the plank on Ref-gate.

As a sports fan Roger, I really fell your pain knowing the feeling. But as a Celtics fan, BWAHAHAHAHAHA.

    Re: Kobe:

It’s funny how often Mark Jackson calls him “the greatest player in the world” that “(insert Celtics player here) can’t defend,” while he’s out there going down 3 games to 1.

Seriously, when you watch game 5 on Sunday, count how many times you hear some version of “greatest player in the world.” You could even play the “greatest player in the world” drinking game. (“On the planet” counts.)

I’m hesitant to say that he isn’t exactly what Jackson says he is, although I think there’s room for debate. But jeez… this ABC crew is worse than McCarver and Buck calling a Yankees game.

They might as well resurrect Chick Hearn and stick him in the ABC booth. It would probably be more impartial that way, and it would be a gigantic improvement in quality.

I told you two weeks ago. Celtics will now grind the Lakers Soviet style on Sunday. LA is a broken team and wants the Celtics to make it all go away.

Next zeitgeist feeling. Obama does a Mondale. No way working class white males are voting for Barry Hussein Metrosexuals Liberal Pet. Ditto Catholic latins and all but whacked out Jews. No f’n way, no how.

As a New England native to whom Roger had previously suggested that I refrain from expressing any further opinions about the Lakers (all in good fun from both parties), I will simply say that the Cedar Rapids flood was by far the greater tragedy.
As I previously pointed out, in spite of my blog name, I am NOT a Mark Cuban shill. How could I be when I saw Bill Russell and Bob Cousy play on black and white TV?
