    Now that the UN has let it be known how they feel about it, and given Obama’s past, the future president may have some difficulties finding pals to volunteer for that s_pot ;)

    I agree with promoguy. After facing this enormous crisis, UN will have no trouble fixing that other stuff.

    I don’t suppose anyone missed that gem at the end of the article: “Before the allied attack on Afghanistan in 2001, opium cultivation had almost stopped under the Taliban.” Now why would the Telegraph end the article with this gratuitous comment? Are they trying to suggest that the best way of reducing the supply of opium is to have the Taliban back in power?

    Richard, I’m a little suspicious of that old chestnut anyway. The very people who would assert it are also the people would want it to be thought true.
