I was at first taken aback when I noticed the formation of YARGB. Many of my best commenters were forming a blog of their own. I feared desertion.
But now I’m flattered. YARGB has turned into one of the better political blogs on the ‘net (at least of those I’ve seen). Today Seneca the Younger… known hereabouts as Charlie (CO)… comments on the war.

Seneca is one of the best posters on YARGB and is always worth reading. If I don’t say so myself.
And yes, we are winning. Too bad the Democrats and the press don’t know it.
I remember during the 9/11 Commission Report hearings Bob Kerrey said that in ten years it will be hard to find people who don’t think the war was worthwhile.
Taht remains to be seen, but considering the fact that the oppositions gets to change its story every time they get the notion I would not be surprised.
Who knows they may suffer another bout of amnesia in a decade and say the whole thing was their idea in the first place.
YARGB’s always worth a read, certainly so the youthful Seneca.

Few of us are irreplaceable. Perhaps there will be a bit more space for a new crop of commenters to grow and ripen. The soil here is fertile and the climate salubrious.
Of amnesia. It was this Gerard Baker piece, in The Times UK, which opens with:
“PERHAPS THE biggest weapon in the arsenal of America’s critics is carefully selective amnesia. Conveniently forgetting important historical facts enables tactical amnesiacs to make claims about US policy that seem to support their contention that the country’s government is uniquely evil.”
Every Left/Dem and Dem, among others certainly, seemingly needs their pantheon of gods and demons, selected on an ad hoc and du jour basis. I also like this quote from the editors of The New Criterion, albeit directed at a different topic, it’s suitable here as well: “… if the forces of political correctness had had their way, their deed would have been airbrushed into the amnesiac limbo of ideological expediency.”.

I too fear losing the ability to read my favorite comments section.
But you guys need to remember that blogspot is not available to us over here in that biggg country that starts with a “see”. Can’t you find another free way?
This is exactly the problem I have with the blogosphere. I found out these guys, whose comments I have always enjoyed, had started their own group blog and my first thought was, “Oh, no, now I have another blog I have to read everyday.” Unfortunately their posts are terrific, which means I can’t delete them from my blog roll. If I didn’t have to work for a living it wouldn’t be such a problem; maybe I can cut down on sleep…

Which is plain downright insane.
Then, History came to my rescue. Republicans literally HATED FDR in the 30s. And Southerners HATED Kennedy in the 60s.
Bush is President during a time of very rapid change for a lot of Americans (let alone people in the Middle East.) Facts do not matter to Crazy people, though. People with FAS cannot become President of the USA. That is a Fact. The invasion of Afghanistan has been successful, both for many people in that country, and certainly for the American people. Iraq is becoming a success for the Americans, and it will very probably become a functioning democracy, after a lot of false starts (check out Britain in the 16th and 17th centuries…); These are Facts. The American economy is in excellent shape, at least in part because Bush’s administration has reduced taxes. That is a fact.
America is not a Fascist State. That is a fact.
But Hate makes people Crazy. And change makes some people Hate. And that is a fact.
Oops! So much for keeping my personæ seperate.
