Stormin’ Norman

November 9, 2005 - 10:12 am - by Roger L Simon

Norman Podhoretz (always required reading for everyone – especially mainstream media reporters) addresses the question of Who Is Lying About Iraq?

UPDATE: After reading Norman’s article, what I first thought about was this – If I were an Iraqi citizen thankful for my freedom from dictatorship (the vast majority, I imagine), I would despise Senator Harry Reid. Reid is either hugely immoral or butt stupid. Take your choice.

Norman Podhoretz is just so much smarter and such a better writer than practically everyone involved in public affairs today. Can you imagine what the world would be like if most politicians and members of the press had even half the brains he does?

  2. 2. David

Reid is both hugely immoral and amazingly stupid.

    3) Both.

This is why I can not support Democrats anymore.

They say whatever works for them at the moment without giving a thought to nonsense like the truth or jusitce or fairness or even reality.

I have not as of yet found one Demcorat who can explain to me why Clinton did not resolve all these issues a decade ago if poor iddle Saddam is just a victim.

Reid is either hugely immoral or butt stupid. Take your choice.

Does it matter? Reid and company are pandering to a huge population of people “too busy” or “too cynical” to pay attention to politics and truths (plurals intented). From yesterday’s off-year election result, they are at least partially successful.

Count on MSM continuing the “corrupt” charges against GOP for the 2006 cycle.

Reid IS hugely immoral. Unfortunately he is NOT stupid. That makes him extremely dangerous.

Can you imagine what the world would be like if most politicians and members of the press had even half the brains he does?

Actually, I’d say that most politicians and members of the press have just about half the brains that Mr. Podhoretz has. One exception is my junior US Senator, Barbara Boxer, who has about half the brain that my neighbor’s cat has.

  9. Searchlight’s pretty dumb. He’s been gloating lately that the Democrats are going to gain a lot of seats in 2006. Ain’t gonna happen. Although the midterm elections historically have gone against the party in the White House, there’s a reason for that.

Usually when a President is elected he sweeps into office some members of his party in marginal districts. That didn’t happen in 2004; the Republicans picked up a grand total of 4 seats in the House. They did better in the Senate, but those seats won’t come up again until 2010.

Actually the last mid-term correction was in 1994. It didn’t happen in 1998, for the same reason it won’t happen next year; Clinton did not have coattails.

One difference between Podhoretz and Reid is that Podhoretz evaluates the facts to draw a conclusion.

Reid, who is totally immoral but not stupid, is a demagogue who manipulates a largely ignorant and lazy segment of the population.

Why anyone with half a brain can continue to fall for the “if you tell a lie enough times then it must be true strategy” is beyond me.

The MSM with it’s liberal bias is also to blame for not revealing Reid and his ilk for what they are. As such, the MSM is an accomplice.

  11. What were the choices again? Reid is immoral or Simon is butt stupid? I’ll go with the latter.

“Reid is either hugely immoral or butt stupid. Take your choice.”

I’ll take both Doors 1 and 2, Roger.

“Reid is either hugely immoral or butt stupid. Take your choice.”

OK. What an amazing opportunity to engage in the Hegelian dialectic.

“Reid is hugely immoral while being absolutely butt stupid.”

One must always search for satisfactory synthesis.

As someone who personally knows Harry Reid, and quite well at that, I will say that “useful idiot” is the more proper term.

On a personal level Harry is as nice as they come, it appears partisanship can bear quite heavy costs. Often those least predisposed to certain behaviors are those least capable of bearing the burden such behavior brings with it.

In many ways Harry has become what he never before was, a political hack with a blindspot or disregard as to the costs such hackery places upon society… a shame.

  15. 15. Rick Ballard

    Joseph,

Doesn’t that fall under “hugely immoral”?

    Joseph,

How good to see you posting again.

The question I have is simple. Why can’t Reid and his cohort see the irreparable harm they can do to the US, it’s reputation and it’s ability to

conduct foreign policy. It is like winning a battle and losing the war. Party leaders have a responsibility to the nation. Reid is almost as bad as Pelosi and that says a lot about him.

As regards Podhoretz commentary: Reid , Levin and Durbin know everything Norman has written. They choose to ignore it for their own purposes.

And that choice puts America at risk. Shame on them.
