After some wrangling, the new Palestinian Authority cabinet has been filled with fresh faces instead of the old Arafat kleptocrat clique. A new golden age? Of course not, but Mahmoud Abbas seems to be serious in using his power against Ahmed Qurie, the aging Arafat hack.

For me, I wonder if a lot of this progress is indirectly related to a dam blowup in Iran. If intelligence agencies can’t find the answer to that question, mideast diplomacy is relegated to looking through frost colored glasses. If the dam was actually a research entity, and there was a plane who shot a missle at it… well the story gets interesting. If European and Middle East diplomacy is simply looking the other way at the actions of the USA and Israel, well Mahmoud may well be seeing things through Wally Jumblatt’s eyes.

Maybe there is a velvet glove guiding the joystick of the charm offensive…

… that being said, everything is on the table…

Think about it, Saddam and Arafat are gone, anything might happen.
