Obama to meet Assad?

March 29, 2009 - 1:01 am - by Richard Fernandez

Haaretz talks about another area of engagement for the Obama administration. If true, my guess is that Assad won’t be indicted, maybe not evention mention, in connection with the assassination of Rafik Hariri. Assad would, in that event, literally have gotten away with murder. Who will stand up to him in the region if said rapproachment takes place?

U.S. President Barack Obama is considering meeting with Syrian President Bashar Assad this summer, a United Arab Emirates-based newspaper reported yesterday. …

Diplomats told Haaretz last week that the U.S. and Syria are undergoing a rapprochement “which is progressing to the satisfaction of both parties.” The U.S. does not have an ambassador in Damascus, but over the past months several U.S. delegations have visited Syria to conduct talks with Assad’s regime there. … U.S.-Syrian relations have long been tense, particularly since the U.S. ambassador was pulled out by the Bush administration in 2005 to protest Syria’s suspected role in the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in Beirut.

One question: if Obama is really going to meet Assad, what’s BHO going to give him? Or promise him?

It’s to be expected he’d meet with Assad. Like Sarah Palin said, he’s been palling around with terrorists for a long, long time.

What he going to give him?

I don’t know. Maybe the Golan. Maybe Lebanon. Maybe Israel itself. Who knows.

He can’t give Assad the Golan, or Israel, but he can give him technology with which to render Israel’s military advantage null. We’ll know soon.

what’s BHO going to give him?

Season 4 of 24 on region 1 NTSC DVDs.

President Obama could give President Assad some high-level ACORN cadres, who could instruct him on under-the-radar ‘community organization’ to the benefit of some citizens at the expense of the others. However, as host to Hamas and Hezbollah, Assad is pretty well advised on such tactics already.

But if President Obama were to hand President Assad enough of a political or financial bribe, the benefits could point the other way, and ACORN’s people might in turn be professionally instructed in weaponized ‘community-organizing-or-else’, complete with favorable support in the world press, and a Rolodex with Iranian contacts.

He will give him what the Americans bought with blood in Iraq. Prestige and influence within the arab world. Assad will be rehabilitated and Syria will retake it’s long lost place as the center of arab nationalism.

Democracy, freedom? Those are Republican foolish notions.

Perhaps, or he could rattle off a list of requirements to become a human being. Stuff like renouncing Satan (cut all ties to Iran) and all his works (that means Hezbollah, and all those terrorist organizations that have offices in Damascus too) and tighten up the border between Mosul, Iraq and Eastern Syria and end the terrorist’s communications between Iran and the rest of the world via Damascus Airport. But that would be reasonable actions in a time of war, not a time of overseas contingency operations, Bozhe moi!

What will be more likely to occur is Assad will give Ohbama a list of actions required to be a human in the eyes of the orient. Ach mein Goshen!

Can we get a reset button for the election, or is it a just a recharge for the national credit card? Oh, Oh-Bama!

  7. Israel has already been called the “Twice Promised Land.” Now Obama is selling them to Iran and Syria and Hamas and Al-Q (who really don’t care) and heck he’ll offer to screw the Jews for Chavez just as icing on the cake. Bibi takes office on Tuesday, will he pull the rug out from under BHO?

    Military equipment, especially military aircraft.

Twenty-five DVDs and Northern Jordon (he’ll get Lebanon before the meeting).

  11. Mike Sylwester,
He has Russian equipment, no reason for him to tie himself into an American supply line. Assad shares interests with the Turks regarding the Kurds. That is another betrayal that BHO can add to his collection. There are a range of things that the Syrians want aside from the obvious in Lebanon or the Golan.

  12. LifeoftheMind: Israel has already been called the “Twice Promised Land.”

There are no more holy places, only people sanctified by the blood of the Lamb. 2 Cor 6:16 “…for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”

    Re: the reset button.

I wonder if it can be reset to go “BOOM”

    Waltradamus speaks, though elliptically

The Pashtun border will be drawn
With Afghan leader as its pawn
Drones and worker bees will fly
And predators will fill the sky

    Dear leader’s missiles will inflate
The danger faced by neighbor state
While mullahs watch the tension grow
And wonder when the thing will blow

    Anointed one will seek address
    With ophthalmologist to press
The region’s health and wonder why
They cannot both see eye to eye

or is it nod & wink?

    Good on you, Walt

    One can only hope.

Its well understood in certain circles, “Nobody
    puts Bibi in a corner”

Obama will serve Assad his (Obama’s) private parts on a silver platter. Obama is a total
narcisstic naif and he is certain to get taken.

Everybody else is well advised to go on Damage Control modes ASAP.
