The Special Prosecutor

The Special Prosecutor

The whole crowd are a complete ring: the Chief of Police, the Chief of Detectives, the Mayor and the City Attorney.” Thus spake special prosecutor Thomas E. Dewey, the gang-busting lawyer and politician, when he was trying to extradite Lucky Luciano from his protected redoubt in Bill Clinton’s home town of Hot Springs, Ark., back in 1936. After the assassination of fellow gangster Dutch Schultz in the fall of 1935, Charlie Lucky had fled to Bubbles, where he sought the protection of Owney Madden, the English-born Irish gangster who had recently moved his base of operations from Manhattan to Hot Springs.

The charge was pimping, but everyone knew that was just a placeholder for all the other crimes Luciano had committed. As the last man standing after the Castellammarese War of 1930-31, the mob-sanctioned takedown of the Dutchman and Madden’s simultaneous relocation to Hot Springs, the Sicilian-born Salvatore Lucania had survived various attempts on his life (hence his nickname, “Lucky”) to become the mob’s kingpin — and Dewey’s principal target. So when Dewey turned up the heat in New York, Luciano headed down to Madden’s protective embrace in the delightfully corrupt spa burg in the Ouachitas.

Hot Springs was ideally located, just 55 miles or so from the state capital at Little Rock, which was close enough with which to do business and far away so as not to be nosy. When Madden needed something done, he would simply order the governor to meet him somewhere in the woods between the two cities, orders would be given, money would exchange hands, and business would proceed at usual.

Because what Madden quickly learned at the beginning of his 30-year exile in Bubbles was that organized crime was great– but it was even better and more efficient when the government was part of the racket The town already had a corrupt mayor in place in the person of Leo McLaughlin, but Madden and his associates expanded the ring to eventually include not only all the local officials, but the governor of Arkansas and at least one of the state’s U.S. senators, “crimebusting” John McClellan, first elected to the House in 1935 (the year Madden arrived) and to the Senate in 1943, where he served until his death in 1977. During the 1963 “Valachi” hearings into big-city crime, McClellan was forced to call Madden before his committee, but carefully protected him from questioning and quickly sent him back to Arkansas.

Thus Dewey’s complaint cited above — everybody in Bubbles was a crook, including the police chief (who lived next door to Madden), the head detective, McLaughlin (surely the model for the cheerfully powerless mayor in Miller’s Crossing) and the D.A. They were all on Madden’s payroll. Needless to say, they were all Democrats.

Excellent history and analysis. What is different today is we have a severe shortage of muck-rakers in the press. The Lamestream Media is to the Democrat Party what Pravda was to Soviet russia.

Obama isn't in on the game - he is the transformation game. He knows exactly what he wants and he is getting it. His mother was a communist as were his maternal grandparents. His father was a Muslim and his step father raised him as a Muslim in Indonesia. His mentors and associates were were communists or Weather Underground radicals. He walks like a duck, he quacks like a duck - he must be a left wing radical. He is succeeding while we dither over this or that scandal. Taken together, it is clear Obama is transforming America into an authoritarian socialist state with some Muslims thrown in for good measure. IRS terrorism, Homeland Security equipped with armored vehicles and military weaponry, EPA strangling the economy, Holder trying to disarm the country and slobbering support from what used to be a free press. Do not under estimate Obama. Things are going to get worse.

First, corrupt the information stream...after that, the rest of the corruption is downhill sledding.

It is the very fact that ALL of our "opinion incubators" sear the truth off the bone of our communication channels. In academia, in Hollywood/entertainment and in agenda media.

No less than RICO quality enterprises...they all conspire with leftist totalitarian empire builders, they clear the path to perdition. Trailblazing for tyranny, rigging the game so that their "team" wins...posing as umpires, masquerading as mediators, hiding as guardians of the realm.

NO tyranny survives an honest information stream.

And no place of honor survives an evil one.

The Democratic Party is a cesspool of deceit, dishonor and discredit to this country. But, they got there because the the Trailblazers of Treason in our "opinion incubators" hatched them.

Romney was giving it "the old college try" using fisticuffs while his opponents were street fighting for turf. The Republicans remind me of the boys in school that hang around the popular boys hoping to look cool enough to get a pretty girl too. As you say, they are part of the same game, just they look like wanna-bes because they aren't quite as ruthless and unprincipled as Democrats.

It’s probably the case that the MSM is the only thing keeping the dem party viable with LIV types. But does it do it out of deep conviction? The O-scandals should be a test to see if the entire MSM is in the same cesspool. My guess is that a good part of it is. Give the part with some sense of decency left a way to differentiate itself from the cesspool; give it every incentive to report on the O-scandals. You might see one of the most fetid political relationships in this country change in a hurry and you might even get an internecine, as in inner-MSM, war started. Even the average LIV would sit up and take notice.

I have to agree with the author about Rubio—he’s a big disappointment. The Republicans should go with the Texan instead.

Reporters are just like teachers; everybody they know went to the same schools, thinks the same thoughts. They marry other teachers or reporters or people with whom they associate professionally. All their social interactions are with people who think just like they do and everybody they know wouldn't think of voting other than Democrat. They don't really see anything the Obamuists have done as scandalous; Democrats are good people (just like they and their friends are good people) and good people don't do bad things. Therefore the Obama administration doesn't do bad things.

They get trapped in circular reasoning without even realizing they are trapped in a logical fallacy. It is very hard to deliberately choose to talk and associate with people you disagree with, but to keep honest and perspective, you must occasionally try to listen to what they say with an open and non-judgmental mind. Then compare what they say against what you believe. Most of the time you just are confirmed in thinking they are idiots. Once in awhile you realize that "I've been wrong." They don't teach this sort of thing in schools anymore, do they?

Scum runs the government for the same reason Willie Sutton went to rob banks- "that's where the money is"
If ever we have another period of conservative control, the priority must be defunding the least popular of their "profit centers". I suggest putting all non military/police federal employees on 20 hour weeks, and eliminating all pensions - let them use Social Security. Defund all federal education programs
Social conservatives need to realize that the government trough is working against them. We should get libertatians on-side, perhaps with marijuana legalization.
Maybe Obama's regime will scare enough conservatives into unity.

Comrade Obama is no mob boss though. He's a spokesperson and front man for the Soros-led junta that engineered a coup d'etat in 2008. Somehow Soros connected with Ayers' communists or they with him and Soros engineered the financial manipulations that assured Obama's victory in 2008. Nothing explains the wild rise of oil prices leading up to the election and the precipitous fall after the election except willful manipulation of the price by large, very wealthy entities. Likewise, nothing explains the collapse of the housing market and the assault on the US Treasury except manipulation by large, very wealthy entities. Soros linked the left-leaning foundation money available in the US with a great deal of sovereign wealth from somewhere, undoubtedly in the Middle East.

The Middle Eastern money people have gotten their payoff with the removal of the US as a party at interest in the Middle East and the return of the entire MENA area to Islamist control with the now seemingly temporary exception of Israel, which is without a friend in the World.

The leftist money people have gotten their payoff with ObamaCare and the gay rights initiatives, see, e.g., the Gil Foundation and consider why Obama's Immmaculation was in Colorado. The unions got their payoff with the NLRB and other regulatory agencies running riot against US business. The crony capitalists that threw in with the Junta have had a free-flowing IV straight from the US Treasury.

I don't know who the Soros Junta has actually installed as the manager of their US profit center. It isn't Soros himself, he's more the Chairman of the Board. Certainly some Middle Eastern figures are on the board as are Ayers and some of his communist associates. There's a good collection of both Red Diaper babies and strong Islamic ties in Obama's inner circle who constitute the day to day management team, but even they are subordinates, e.g. Axelrod, Jarrett, Huma. They use a network of radical attornies to maintain communication of political objectives so the necessary illusion of separation of politics/campaigning from actual governance can be maintained behind a veil of attorney-client privilege. The vestigial remains of the mob and the corrupt Democrat machines are an asset of the Junta but they don't run the Junta. Obama himself is more of lobbyist or PR Flack for the Junta than a management personality. That's my best whack at it anyway. Hopefully the NSA got all of it.

Yeah, i drive a Nazi Hot Rod just as that LA guy that got fried did. Mine is older and doesn't have all the electronics a new one does and it is either maintained by me or by a place I trust and is rarely parked on the street.

From the pictures I've seen, I just don't know how you do that much and that kind of damage to a Benz, even if you're going at very high speed. A Benz has elaborate crush zone architecture that causes it to progressively fold in on itself in a collision. I don't know what kind of collision would tear the engine and transmission out of one. The expectation would be that the surrounding structure would first crush in on the engine and then the engine and related assemblies would crush back into the firewall and passenger compartment shedding energy as it crushed. They don't just fly apart, no modern car does really - unless they're made to explode internally. But, LA is run by Democrats and their PD is union and Democrat-run, so we'll never know what really happened. They'll issue an authoritative sounding accident report, and we can choose whether to believe it.

This underlines the theory of a government nobility to rule us. 10% of the people actively supported the revolution. 10% were tories and the rest stay home. Those that stay home are savaged. Get up and out or stop whining!

"The whole crowd are a complete ring: the Chief of Police, the Chief of Detectives, the Mayor and the City Attorney." the problem is that, not only the Democrat Party and most of the Republicans, but nearly all government workers at the municipal, county, state and Federal levels as well as nearly half of the electorate are part of this racket as well. When you have an enormous portion of the citizenry receiving government benefits, then the corruption is too deep and too widespread to combat. It's the 21st century American version of "Panem et Circenses"; as long as the good citizens receive their monthly government stipends, they're not going to get excised about a few citizens getting hassled by the government. In fact, if there are a few groups such as local Tea Party organizations advocating for lower taxes, smaller government and entitlement reform, these aforementioned "good citizens" will cheer their government on to "take care" of those "wet blankets" who are "harshing their buzz".

Mr. Walsh, which had more influence in "breaking the fever" -the gangsters offing each other in a mutual assured destruction frenzy or Dewey's rule of law? Do we have to wait for a tectonic split among Dem power players as a wedge to stop the forward march?

All my communication with fellow conservatives involves passing notes from stall to stall in subway toilets. The union goons who patrol the subways assume we are homosexuals engaging in anonymous trysts and ipso facto above politcal suspicion.
