The Lights Are Going Out. Or Is It On?

February 18th, 2014 - 1:40 pm

Are the anti-neocons ready to reconsider?  For years now, they’ve been lambasting us (presumed marionettes of Bushitlercheney) for unleashing war and misery on the world’s unfortunates, and death and mayhem on our own young fighters.  They yelled, “Hands off!  Let peace prevail!  Or if it doesn’t, so be it;  it’s not our problem.”

They yelled other things, too, mostly along the lines of “you can’t get a democracy in a place that’s never had it.”  They vigorously deny that there is anything remotely resembling a universal impulse toward freedom.

Some of them, now in the Peace and Love room, or in the White House residence, where policy is committed, remain convinced that most of the world’s problems are our fault, and they are unwilling to take action against foreign nations whose regimes rest on the same conviction.  Better to talk.  That way, our (soon-to-be-former) enemies will see that we have learned our lesson, and so we can All Get Along.

They called it “leading from behind.”  In normal English, it’s “retreat.”

Are they pleased with the results?  As America withdrew from the world, we got new wars.  Terrible wars, complete with weapons of mass destruction (Syria), ethnic and tribal slaughter (Nigeria, Libya, Iraq, Lebanon, Iran), a revived al-Qaeda (whether “core” or “peripheral”), and growing involvement of the likes of Moscow and Tehran in areas where we used to have something to say.

The main thing is the slaughter.  Have you looked at Venezuela or Ukraine today?  The Iranians–officially–hung more than a dozen citizens today. Don’t those big crowds of demonstrators remind you of the anti-Muslim Brotherhood demonstrations in Egypt?  Or of the anti-Khamenei demonstrations in Iran?

All these monster demonstrations have taken place during the Obama years, the years of retreat.  We didn’t organize them, any more than we organized the Syrian resistance to Assad, or the Iranian resistance to Khamenei.  In my view, we should have, but we didn’t.  So who are the anti-neocons going to blame them on?

"America is always the ultimate target of the tyrants."

So why is this article about almost every other country on the planet other than America, when Obama's ever increasing tyranny here at home is impacting us a thousand times more than all the external others combined?

Michael, once we stood as a beacon of freedom.

The Jew hating isolationists, the idiot Ron Paul and troop of imbeciles, the Jew hating Buchanan and his troop of cowards...they fought our place in history as hard as the left, but with less influence.

You can still hear the furor (and the Fuhrer) in their voices today.

Because we will not stand for freedom everywhere, we stand for freedom nowhere. And we get that loss of freedom at home.

Acting with no honor...drives a hole in the heart of the one nation that USED to stand for honor. The loudmouth cowards who tremble at the duty we owe to freedom, to our allies and to those persecuted by the enemies who come for us next...wish to convince others that cowardice and lack of honor is "wise".

But trembling cowardice is not wise, it is an invitation to attack who smell the fear and laugh at the trembling.
We are whipsawed by the traitorous left and the loudmouth cowards...and surrounded by their lack of honor.

I would hang the traitors. And I would point at every coward and tell him to take his shame home and hide under his bed while better men try to save this nation from the grip of those who hate it and from the stench of those who refuse to defend it.

"The Lights Are Going Out. Or Is It On?"

A more transparent title for this article would be "The Strawmen and Red Hearings Are Being taken Down. Or Is It More Still Are Being Put Up?"

Or maybe "The Neocons Are Finally Wising Up. Or Is It They Have Lost What Little Sense They Might Once Have Had?"

The 8 years of American troops losing live and limbs by the thousands and America losing hundreds of billions, if not into the trillions accomplished what in Iraq again?

Answer: Nothing remotely worth the price.

The 12 years of American troops losing live and limbs by the thousands and America losing hundreds of billions, if not into the trillions accomplished what in Afcrapistan again?

Answer: Nothing remotely worth the price.

And now you want to spill still more American blood in Syria, Nigeria, Libya, back to Iraq, Lebanon, etc., etc., etc.?

Have you yourself ever been in the military? Do you even know what war is like?

In our country one class of men makes war and leaves another to fight it out. - William Tecumseh Sherman.

You want to fight tyranny? These days you don't have to look outside our own nation's borders. My nation anyway. I don't know what nation is your nation. Perhaps "We are the World (mostly Islamic)".

"Anybody seen an Iranian warship headed our way?"

No, but I do see Obama's TSA Gropstapo at American airports, and I know what Obama's N-Stasi-A is doing, and I know what Obama's IRS is doing, and I know what Obama's EPA is doing, and I have a rough idea of how many hollow point rounds Obama's DHS, and other Obama departments, have stockpiled.

And you get in a tither about some real or imagined Iranian "warship" that our Navy could blast to smithereens in far less time than it took me to write this comment.

"Therefore, supporting democratic revolutionaries is both a moral and a strategic obligation."

Well, you see, that's another big problem here. You and your keyboard ranger neocon F-Troop don't know how to identify them, nor risk/reward - gain/loss and you seem to continually get even worse at it, figuring that if you keep trying to build enough Trillion Dollar Bridges To Nowhere, strewn with the lives and limbs of enough other Americans, eventually one of them will be bound to go somewhere, and I don't think this will ever change unless and until it's your blood being spilled.

While I overall agree with your point, Mr. Ledeen, I think you should use different words than "democratic revolutionaries." When I think of "democratic revolutionaries," I think of the Jacobins/French Revolutionaries, the Bolshieveks, the Vietcong, the Khmer Rouge, and the like, and all the horrors they inflicted as "democracies" (especially in France). I don't have a very good outlook on democracy precisely because democracy only leads to bloodshed, destruction, and persecution by a mob.

The problem is that they do not know history or have a distorted version. They don't understand the lessons of Munich. Worse, they forget why we are in Afghanistan (9/11 remember); half of them probably think it was an inside job.

"Therefore, supporting democratic revolutionaries is both a moral and a strategic obligation. We and they will often fail, as most human enterprises."

It is clear that the United States and a fewness of political alliances cannot alone win the war in Iraq and Afghanistan so long as the terror masters are freely moving in Tehran and Damascus!

"You can easily find similar language among Syrians, Iranians, Egyptians, Venezuelans, Lebanese and Iraqis, all of whom have been betrayed by the United States...since, after all, we are the leader of the free world"

Yes, today all those people suffering from Mr. Obama's betrayal. President Obama is not the leader of the free world. President Obama favored regimes and Islamic organizations that are anti-America and to the free world, while neglected the incredible power of free people. During his reign allowed the tyrants of Tehran and Damascus to crush pro-democracy uprisings.

The noble and great elite "Neo-conservatives and the American democratic revolutionaries" including the noble revolutionary, Dr. Michael Ledeen, all of them are struggling hard for the interests of the USA and against the evil power that seek to overtake the United States of America as Global Superpower, above all it is a moral struggle to advocate the oppressed people those who today uniting alone to defend themselves, those who do not receive any support from the leader of the free world, the leader of the world's sole superpower.
In fact, the Iraq War was not simply the product of Neo-conservatives. It was also championed by liberal hawks. At the beginning was strong alliance between the two factions, but ultimately they put the blame for the invasion on President George W. Bush and the Neo-conservatives that led to a dispute which ended with a vengeance against neo-conservatives.

I guess you are leaving for another day, why Canada, the United Kingdom, and other countries conclude that relations between each country, and the US, were better when Dubya was President, compared to the graduate of the Chicago pugilist arena.

Also, other than just chalking it up to "I don't get it", why not look at why Pussy Riot is seen in a poor light.

For, in all honesty, there is cause for concern as to what the EU wants to change in Ukraine.

Ledeen,

I very much appreciate your piece. I consider myself a neo-con -- which, lately here at PJ Media is a stance which invites ridicule and disdain. Have we made mistakes (like any other group)? Of course. Are our principles nevertheless well grounded? Absolutely.

I've followed you for many years and I very much appreciate the work you've done on your own and for Lewis Libby, a man who I think the world of. Libby is such an honorable guy -- what they (read liberals) did to him I can never forgive.

However, as long as I see known anti-Semites like Juan Cole write unending nastiness about you and Libby as "neo-Cons", the more I know I'm on the "right side" of history by allying myself with you.

In case some of you don't know -- the term neo-Con has long ago become a euphemism for "Jews, Jews, and did I say, Jews." This, by people, like the gadfly NYT Columnists Maureen Dowd -- that intellectual heavyweight. She brought herself to (seemingly) multiple daily orgasms in bandying about the term neo-Con and Jewish last names in column after column during GWB's final years. (oh so very surreptitious she was).

If the alternative to neo-Cons are those paragons of brilliant foreign policy, Ron and Rand Paul, I'll stand with Ledeen, VD Hanson, and many writers in Commentary and the Weekly Standard (the magazines) as a proud neo-Con any day.

Falafel, I think the great history of Dr. Michael Ledeen proves that he is an "Democratic Revolutionary" NOT belongs to any kind of conservatism!!!

I recall turning on Rush Limbaugh at random, and suddenly hearing this out of the blue (approximated):

"This is inside baseball.. The are just Conservatives. What they mean by "neo-cons" are Jews."

He didn't have to say that, and I will always be appreciative of his having said it.

What is the difference between the worldviews of Barack Obama and Ron Paul? Nothing.

mzk, no doubt most of Neo-conservatives are Jews, because a lot of renegades from the communist and socialist movements were Jews. On the other hand the Neo-conservatism position on the Middle East conflict was exactly congruous with the neo-conservative position on other conflicts around the world, including places where neither Jews nor Israeli interests could be found.

Actually, whatever U.S and global community until now has done, was in favor and for the benefit of mullah’s regime for their damn life get longer. If you look precisely, U.S somehow is in completely under service for mullah’s regime before and after 1979, regardless of different white house administrations that came and went in 35 years until now. Taking out the shah of Iran, sending mullahs to Iran with the support of all European powers, starting the 8 year war between Iran and Iraq and let the mullahs to destroy their opponents with the chance of war situation, not letting the Saddam to end the mullahs life with a complete war attack project to target Tehran with a nuke which Saddam(a real lion) was busy in launching toward Tehran, destroying the Saddam and Taliban regimes, the two major and traditional and most effective and blood thirstiest enemies of mullahs, with the support and spending U.S blood young soldiers, with the spending U.S tax payers money with the spending U.S military valuable war wares and spending so many more of American the Greatest Nation. And now the worst nightmare is in its way of completeness. Mullah’s nuclear endless production line facilities. If U.S with all its efforts and young blood Americans help the mullahs to run their nuke making line factories, its long term service for mullahs will be complete and Americans can dry their sweat with mullah’s turban. Who has done work? Someone who completed!
There’s exactly a confident that if sanctions really to be continued without any puncture, and cooperation of all the wise world global community to support the concrete sanctions, the Iran trouble will be eliminate and solve without any need in one bullet firing toward Iranians. An implosion will burst all the Iran country, there’s a very high potential in all Iran’s provinces to separate themselves of central regimes tyranny. Even little a Child in Iran find out what it is their long last term misery comes from. Whatever petrodollars go inside Iranian country, it will never spend for nation. All the regime authorities (big fat Rats) felt that central regime is under crushing pressure so their burglary somehow gets faster to gather everything they can on their jaws, and jump out of the sinking vessel. The implode or collapse that lead to all Iran downfall just can be done with a little push of first button. Sanctions must be an endless and long term cold war against mullah’s evil. If, you really want to have energy stream of gulf region, otherwise it would be a poisonous nuclear restricted area.
It’s up to you.

Odd but one would think the Left would understand that Islam is its mortal enemy. Right now, the Left finds Islam a useful tool in securing power in the US. So our future is an Oceania versus Islamia of classic warfare and both sides seeking tyranny in the end. Sideshows along the way include various Leftist and Islamic tyrannies displaying their visions of rule - as in the current hotspots across the world. Freedom will not occur until the Left and Islam destroy themselves. That's going to take a bit of time.
