Star Wars Episodes IV, V, VI were brilliant, especially before Lucas decided to pretty things up. Here’s some guidance for Disney:

Lucas was trying to make a children's movie back in '76. He accidentally brought scifi movies a quantum leap forward in special effects and ended up with a movie adults liked, too. Lucas kept trying to make it for children, so all the cute stuff—ewoks, yoda, jarjar, the emotive CGI eyes on wookies—kept trying to soften it. I'm all for a scene where ewoks kick JarJar to death. The three prequels might be endurable if I could have that scene in mind.

Star Wars is a juvenile fantasy for people who can't grow up. What you are asking for has already been made. It's called Firefly.

Don't be such a wet blanket.

Just out of curiousity, do you consider the Matrix Trilogy to be a juvenile fantasy for people who can't grow up? That one pushed even more Marxist drivel than Star Wars ever did.

Also, just so we are clear, can you give me a list of any and all film franchises that are and are not of that description? I'm serious, I have no real way of knowing.

Is that a serious question. None of these franchises is adult entertainment. They are all fantasies but of all of them Star Wars seems to be the one that adults obsess on.

I don't see anything here to gripe about. Oh, and I'd like to see a snuff flick referred to in which JarJar dies a noisy, messy, embarrassing death. Do that for me and all is forgiven.

One improvement I would suggest: Make the Ewoks villains. Since Lucas confirmed he based them on the Marxist group, the Viet Cong, its best if we treated them as evil since the Viet Cong were indeed complete monsters. Plus, it would fit in with the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan as well. That was an unforgivable sin of Lucas, making the Vietcong heroes.

And having learned this I will take a baseball bat to Lucas, should we ever meet. That is a promise. Slowly, and with feeling.

"Han shot first."

And rightly so.

In agreement with all of this, though I do have an observation about the ships looking old. I actually like the contrast of the shiny new ships from the prequels and the down-and-dirty rebel ships in the originals. I can genuinely say that clean, sleek ships had a good place in the time before things went to hell. Like it or not, the prequels are part of the canon now, and thematically some of the additions work, whether Lucas meant it or not. In the theoretically post-Empire Abrams trilogy, I would hope Abrams keeps the ships looking used and dirty.

It's technical. The ships in the old movies were models. The newer ones are all computer generated. I doubt CGI can do dirty.

"Robots" showed the CGI does dirty and rusty, and blemished, as well as it does shiney, smooth and new.

Tho, craft wise, and considering how Lucas and ILM got their start, having a few scenes shot with model work and computer controlled cameras, as well as a few beautiful hand painted backdrops, would really be a nice touch. CGI can now be done by a girl scout troop with access to a decent iMac, but that beautiful model work can't.

And yes, my thumbs up for a Jar Jar showing up as the lead in "The Taliban presents: Bunny Suicides" would be worth the $50. There was never a character that needs to die more often and more brutally than Kenny, preferably at the beginning and end of every scene.

Of course it can. Bits is bits.

Can't argue with any of that.

Rule 5: Star Wars is about characters, astro-geo-politico-economics.

Sorry.
