For art lovers, here is a wonderful opportunity to view Michelangelo’s masterpiece with this new 3D virtual tour of the Sistine Chapel, produced at the request of the Vatican.
To view, just click and drag your arrow in the direction you wish to see. The detail is amazing.
Enjoy!

Amazing!
That is fabulous. Thanks for the tip, Myra!
Lovely. I wish they had done this before cleaning the frescos too.
The interface leaves something to be desired. You can also use the arrow keys on your keyboard.
Extra controls: Press [ A ] to zoom in to get a better look at the famous ‘Pull my finger’ panel. [ Z ] to zoom out.
That is amazing. For the first time, I realize that M’s painting of God touching Adam is not the only painting on the ceiling, and I had no idea about the walls. How ignorant am I?
I love the internet.
I agree, though I must sheepishly admit I initially tried to navigate like one would using Google streetview. Maybe I love the internet too much?
Amazing how many of those panels are so easily recognizable. I suppose it’s because they’ve been used so often in various media.
RS, you’re right.
Much obliged, Myra and PJM.
Tag Richard Dwking, he must see what he is trying to destroy
We must never forget that this masterpiece was created for the glory of God.
Google Earth has, in addition to its usual set of models, models of Rome as it was in 320 AD. I *believe* they’re based off the same information used in the scale model in the Museum of the Roman Civilization in Rome — itself a jaw-dropping sight.
Now go watch “The Agony and the Ecstasy” with Heston and Harrison.
Yes, highly recommend. I had never seen it and then watched it a few months ago. Truly amazing story and it makes me appreciate this 3D version even more.
Old Mich would have loved the internet.
