DOJ Lawyers Waste Your Money Over Fonts and Obamacare
With unemployment chronically exceeding 8% under President Obama and with explosive federal deficits, you would think Justice Department lawyers would have more important things to worry about than font size and enrichment programs on Obamacare. But you’d be wrong.
The Voting Section is currently fighting South Carolina over implementation of voter ID — a policy supported by more than eighty percent of Americans. Bradley Heard, one of the lawyers for the DOJ, has found the time to bicker about 12-point font, even filing a brief in federal court about it. “I’m pretty sure this specific topic was a point of discussion among all counsel prior to filing our respective briefs, and each party appeared to recognize the continuing 13-point font requirement,” Heard wrote in the email. “Thus, we were surprised to receive the State’s 12-point font brief. . . . Heard asked South Carolina’s lawyers to withdraw their court papers and re-file a document with the correct size font. A lawyer for South Carolina, H. Christopher Bartolomucci, responded to Heard at ten minutes before 9 p.m. on September 8 with this: “We do not intend to revise our filing unless of course the Court indicates we should.” Bartolomucci said a revised scheduling order, issued in July, “does not require 13-point font.”
At 10:51 p.m. that day, Heard filed an emergency motion in Washington’s federal trial court urging the panel judges to strike South Carolina’s court brief.
When they aren’t busy wasting your tax dollars litigating over things that don’t matter, they are spending time on things which have noting to do with their jobs. I received an email from a DOJ Civil Rights Division lawyer advertising an enrichment program being taught at the DOJ Voting Section about Obamacare.
The lawyers at DOJ – for the most part – have become corrupt beyond repair, losing sight of their mission and their professional ethics.
In fact, they give most lawyers a rotten name, and many view the profession with contempt. After all, they are supposed to be the defenders of equal justice under the law.
A DOJ which refuses to uphold the law has become legal outlaws. So,the fact that they are arguing over font size – or other such insanity – is of piece with their skewed morals, and sense of urgency.
Surely, working under the biggest lawbreaker – Holder – gives them the ‘kosher’ stamp of approval to let it rip.

It is a well known fact that it is always more fun to spend other people’s money when you are in the midst of a spending “free for all”. Being elected to a position (or appointed to a position by unethical elected officials) in our government is more like winning the lottery. The tales of people winning mega millions and shortly thereafter having to declare bankruptcy are numerous. In the politician’s world though, they have a “safety net”…. it’s called the American taxpayer.
The party with a bigger litigation budget can always try to spend the other side into surrender, or distract the other side from real issues while keeping them busy swatting flies. (Often it’s over discovery, though,, and not such transparent nonsense as font size, especially whn 12 point is the accepted standard.) The real question is whether the judge will let them get away with it, for how long and at what price.

If lawyers in the US DOJ have nothing better to do than to hum and haw over font size it only does to show how uneducated they are. Although I write from a UK perspective, I thinbk I can safely say that many a judge and lawyer of former generations would have wondered if, as Lord Goddard, sometime Lord Chief Justice for England and Wales put it, it was a case of “bureaucracy gone mad”.
All even the merest legal layman has to do to show up the truth of your article on this point is to type a short piece of text in different fonts in a given size – and draw the obvious conclusion.
