New Missouri Law Would Criminalize Educators Encouraging Student Transitions

The pushback against transgenderism has received a significant push forward recently in the state of Missouri. State Representative Jamie Gragg (R) introduced a bill that would make educators assisting in the gender transition of students under the age of 18 a felony, and those found guilty would have to register as sex offenders.

Rep. Gragg told Fox News that his bill "is kind of that missing link when it comes to really making sure that we protect our children and protecting their relationship between them and their parents. We have parents that are completely being bypassed, and there's been a narrative that has grown leaps and bounds."

"Support" for socially transitioning students is defined in the bill as verbal or written assistance such as talking and the provision of resources.

As Fox News noted, this is the first bill to really confront the transgender lobby's influence over children head-on, as most Republicans have moved against gender reassignment "surgery" for minors.

One may argue making educators who encourage children to transition register as sex offenders is egregious. Still, the mere threat of it alone will undoubtedly make some shut right up.

However, one only has to recall the numerous instances where teachers have openly stated they will help students transition behind their parents' backs. Any adult who tells kids to keep secrets from their parents deserves to be side-eyed.

Remember the story of Sage Blair?

She was encouraged to identify as male by her school behind her grandmother's back, only for Sage to run away and become a victim of human trafficking. Once rescued, she was placed in a home where she was further assaulted and abused.

Despite everything, Sage's lawyer refused to release her back into her grandmother's custody because she would not affirm her "gender identity."

Thankfully, Sage eventually returned home and no longer considers herself male.

More recently, Dennis Hannon of New York lost custody of his son, Matthew, because he refused to acknowledge his "gender identity," as his ex-wife (Matthew's mother) and his school actively kept Mr. Hannon in the dark about their years-long efforts to turn Matthew into a girl (the kid is five, for crying out loud!).

"It's been a nightmare,” Mr. Hannon said to the DailyMail. “It's completely destroyed my life."

In January, a member of Rhode Island's North Kingstown School District committee was caught on video arguing that parents should not be informed if their kids are being encouraged to transition at school, saying, "society assumes that every child has a well-meaning family. Sometimes the worst thing you can do is involve the parent into some of these issues, based on their own beliefs and their own cultures, and that will cause that student to commit suicide."

Yeah, sure.

In all seriousness, Missouri State Rep. Jamie Gragg has the right idea. We can debate whether or not the proposed punishment is the right one, but it sends a message that parents everywhere are furious with the transgender lobby and are more than eager to fight back.
