All Within the State, Nothing Outside the State
Now is the time at Ed Driscoll.com when we juxtapose, Small Dead Animals-style:
Ain’t no sophistry like JournoList sophistry; Twitchy rounds up the facepalms to today’s Tweet by the Washington Post-employed Yglesias and notes:
In Matt’s universe, your business? Your life? You didn’t build that. Your property? You didn’t own that. Ever. Matt’s credibility as a “real journalist”? He didn’t earn that.
Of course, as we mentioned back in 2010, when Yglesias admitted he was OK with lying; there are far more prominent examples “real journalists” who’ve admitted the same thing. On the other hand, I’ll take Matt at his word that he believes what he said today. And as Kate of Small Dead Animals tweets in response today, “Hey, @mattyglesias — where do you live? I’d like to check over your furniture and see if there’s anything I like.”

I just don’t “get” that tweet. C’mon, Korg the Caveman had his pile of animal skins long before any concept of “government” or “the state” existed!
Yglesias has produced some real whoppers over the years, but in this case I can’t conceive of what he might have been thinking.
The concept of property goes back millions of years. Even dogs understand property — they certainly know what’s theirs and what isn’t. Lions and wolves will mark, and will defend, hunting territories.
The idea of “ownership” is genetically programmed into us.
