The Devil Is In The Details

January 12, 2010 - 11:22 am - by Ed Driscoll

Or maybe the spell checker:

On the heels of last night’s final debate between Martha Coakley, Scott Brown and Joseph L. Kennedy, Coakley released a new ad attacking Scott Brown — an aggressive turn that many observers have thought was long overdue.

However the ad’s message might get lost by a spelling gaffe that appears in the ad’s closing seconds. In the fine print appearing at the bottom of the screen, the ad reads:

Paid for by Massachusettes Democratic Party and Authorized by Martha Coakley for Senate. Approved by Martha Coakley.

Close observers will notice that there is an extra ‘E’ tacked onto the end of ‘Massachusetts. It’s a trivial oversight, for sure, but you can bet that the jokes and jabs the typo will inspire will blunt at least some of the impact of the ad.

Seems to me the problem with this ad is that it’ll continually remind female Massachusetts voters that Scott Brown is a Grade AAA H.U.N.K.

Indeed, I’m sure lots of women will Tivo the ad and keep watching it again…and again…and again…. ;)

  2. It’s just the feminine tense for Massachusetts.

It’s hard to believe the cluelessness of Ms. Coakley in leaving the campaign trail for a high profile event with D.C. lobbyists only a week before the election. Doesn’t she understand how that looks? Or does she think she doesn’t need to care? Combine that with her decision to take a 1 week vacation in the middle of a 6 week campaign, and you have to wonder what she’s thinking. Lack of money is not her biggest problem now, it’s lack of a clue.

LOL! Post house dude (or dudette) must be a Repub. Absolutely astounding that no one caught it.

Coakley will probably still win but we can hope. (My parents used to say of the Bay State “they’d vote for the donkey there.”) If I were Brown, all I’d do is run an ad that plays his “people’s seat” quip over and over. Oh, and with Massachusetts spelled correctly at the end …
