Rush Makes Obama An Offer He Can’t Accept
Rush Limbaugh has taken one of the more successful pages out of George W. Bush’s first term playbook; longtime readers of the Blogosphere will recall Steven Den Best’s posts about Dubya making foreign leaders offers they couldn’t accept, a unique spin on the Godfather’s famous tactic. Here’s the item on Rush’s Website:
My point here is that these are really odious, empty, nasty people who are feasting on their own arrogance. They are power hungry. But, you know what? They’ve never had a serious debate over ideas. Their goal is to destroy opponents, which is what they’re trying to do now. They don’t want to engage opponents. Their idea of victory is the destruction of the opponent. They’re not for a level playing field. They want to clear the playing field so that their ideas do not have to undergo any scrutiny. So what do they do? They leak stories to the Politico intended to create impressions about their own importance and their brilliance, when in fact they aren’t even bit players on the nation’s stage. This is Emanuel, and this is Obama.
But I have an idea. If these guys are so impressed with themselves, and if they are so sure of their correctness, why doesn’t President Obama come on my show? We will do a one-on-one debate of ideas and policies. Now, his people in this Politico story, it’s on the record. They’re claiming they wanted me all along. They wanted me to be the focus of attention. So let’s have the debate! I am offering President Obama to come on this program — without staffers, without a TelePrompTer, without note cards — to debate me on the issues. Let’s talk about free markets versus government control. Let’s talk about nationalizing health care and raising taxes on small business.
Let’s talk about the New Deal versus Reaganomics. Let’s talk about closing Guantanamo Bay, and let’s talk about sending $900 million to Hamas. Let’s talk about illegal immigration and the lawlessness on the borders. Let’s talk about massive deficits and the destroying of opportunities of future generations. Let’s talk about ACORN, community agitators, and the unions that represent the government employees which pour millions of dollars into your campaign, President Obama. Let’s talk about your elimination of school choice for minority students in the District of Columbia. Let’s talk about your efforts to further reduce domestic drilling and refining of oil. Let’s talk about your stock market. By the way, Mr. President, I want to help. Yesterday you said you looked at the stock market as no different than a tracking poll that goes up and down.
There’s no “up and down” here. We have a plunge. The president yesterday suggested “we’re getting to the point where profits and earnings ratios are approaching that point where you want to invest.” Uh, Mr. President? There is no “profits and earnings” ratio. It’s “price and earnings” ratio. He’s the president of the United States. He doesn’t know anything about the stock market. He’s admitted it before. Let’s talk about it anyway. You want to maintain it’s a tracking poll? I’d love to talk to you about that. Let’s talk about all of these things, Mr. President. Let’s go ahead and have a debate on this show. No limits. Now that your handlers are praising themselves for promoting me as the head of a political party — they think that’s a great thing — then it should be a no-brainer for you to further advance this strategy by debating me on the issues and on the merits, and wipe me out once and for all!
Just come on this program. Let’s have a little debate. You tell me how wrong I am and you can convince the rest of the American that don’t agree with you how wrong we all are. You’re a smart guy, Mr. President. You don’t need these hacks to front for you. You’ve debated the best! You’ve debated Hillary Clinton. You’ve debated John Edwards. You’ve debated Joe Biden. You’ve debated Dennis Kucinich. You’ve debated the best out there. You are one of the most gifted public speakers of our age. I would think, Mr. President, you would jump at this opportunity. Don’t send lightweights like Begala and Carville to do your bidding — and forget about the ballerina, Emanuel. He’s got things to do in his office. These people, compared to you, Mr. President, are rhetorical chum.
I would rather have an intelligent, open discussion with you where you lay out your philosophy and policies and I lay out mine — and we can question each other, in a real debate. Any time here at the EIB Network studios. If you’re too busy partying or flying around giving speeches and so forth, then send Vice President Biden. I’m sure he would be very capable of articulating your vision for America — and if he won’t work, send Geithner, and we can talk about the tax code. And if that won’t work, go get Bob Rubin. I don’t care. Send whoever you want if you can’t make it. You don’t need to be leaking stories to Politico like this thing that’s published today. You don’t need to have your allies writing op-eds and all the rest. If you can win at this, then come here and beat me at my own game, and get rid of me once and for all, and show all the people of America that I am wrong.
Since there’s no way they’ll accept his offer, I hope Rush has thought that phase of his gambit through, as well.

Drugs and sex disqualify you from the public spotlight? I can see where some of our more extreme puritanical readers would believe that, but personally, I wouldn’t discount JFK or Bill Clinton so quickly.
They gave Rush more stature than he otherwise would have had. They have called him the defacto leader of the Republican Party. They have made him equal to Obama. If he is equal, then there is no reason for Obama not to debate Rush, and if Obama doesn’t debate Rush then he is chicken and Rush wins by default.
Note – Rush could never have done this if Obama had not given him the stature. Doin’ a heck of a job here, Baracky.
Barack Obama should have left rush Limbaugh alone. He is similar to the three foot midget picking a fight with a champion heavy weight boxer. Obama is shallow and poorly read and the famous radio talk show host can intellectually kick his butt with one hand tied behind his back. Limbaugh has already significantly united the conservatives within the Republican Party. And he easily converts middle of the road people—who actually take the time to listen to him. Also, he is not an angry man.
Limbaugh is often hysterically funny.
Limbaugh cannot be the de facto leader of the GOP. He simply has no interest in running for public office. I believe he is far more useful as a popular political commenter. It is therefore far more accurate to describe him as the de facto leader of the conservative movement.

Don’t know about the sex part, but Obama has admitted in his books that he has used drugs including cocaine. There is no doubt he inhaled. If drug use disqualifies a radio commentator, shouldn’t is also disqualify a president?

Liberal ideas usually sound good until you ask “What if….”. Well, nobody asked Obama “What if….” during the campaign.
I am suprised that nobody is talking about the Al Gore / H. Ross Perot debate in 1994 when Perot lost the debate about NAFTA. This is a similar point in the nation’s history, and yes, the President should send his #2 guy to debate the main impediment to his plan. The nation would be better for the true debate.

Bill, we had an election in November. We all lost.
But the great thing about America (thus far) is that even if our preferred candidate loses an election, we can keep speaking our minds, even if it means dissenting from the President. Some might even say that dissent is….
Anyway, what’s the harm in sending at least a low-level staffer nobody would miss, like Biden, to show Rush why he’s wrong?

A hard science degree from Harvard University is always earned. Only the very best can earn such an honor from this Ivy League institution. Barack Obama, however, received a soft science credential—and grade inflation is the norm within its liberal arts departments. There are admittedly numerous topnotch Harvard graduates. Nonetheless, the typical graduate is probably no smarter than the mediocre Caroline Kennedy. She may even be the real face of Harvard.
Rush Limbaugh has done more reading and studying accidentally during his lifetime than Barack Obama has done intentionally. This is why the president had best keep a low profile. He literally is not ready to carry Limbaugh’s jock strap.
We should petition Obama to debate Rush. Pay per view to help the economy and pay-off people mortgage foreclosure homes.

I think he studied the ideas of Saul Alinsky very carefully. He understands Marxism as well as any mordern progressive.

I think the Obama camp’s moves against Rush Limbaugh are simply the set-up for the nuclear option move they have in their hip pocket if Obama’s policies and popularity really start tanking: The Race Card. If Team Obama gets into real trouble they will trot out the usual suspects in the Democratic Party and the media to claim that Rush and the Republicans really want Obama and his proposed policies to fail because Obama and many of the people his policies will help are black. Even Rush will have a hard time fighting back against the race card nuclear weapon without eventually saying something that will be a terrific sound-bite for Democrats and CNN and MSNBC to use against him, and by Team Obama’s definition, all Republicans (that’s the set-up trap I think they are laying for Rush).

Quick question: Are you guys really serious about this? Really? Your devotion to Bush, then Rush suggest to me that YOUR lives are lonely and without direction. It tells me YOU would prefer an imperial king, rather than a democracy. Where to start, where to start… Lets see, first off, we are not a Democracy but a Republic. Slight difference there. Second, since when did past drugs or sex-capaides matter? Remember Slick Willy and I do believe that the big O has done a few lines. Third, as far as I can see, Rush had not just spent $700 Billion dollars of SOMEONE ELSE’s MONEY on gifts to his friends. Did the media really use the term “scumbag” or are you just paraphrasing? Nice mouth you have there. It is also cute that you express the opinion that government schools do a better job than home schooling. Happen to recall which group of kids have won more national spelling bees lately? Also, I can’t help but mention that the big O does not send his little darlings to public school. If it is good enough for your kids, why not his? Also, to set the record straight, as a group we conservatives were not “devoted” to Bush, we were just intelligent enough to understand that he would be better at protecting this country than the other available alternative. There was plenty to disagree with Bush over (he spent money like a drunken sailor on leave) but what he did right, he did very right. The big O is just not in either man’s league. Heck, even Bush could properly vet appointments, not a tax cheat among them. What are you going to tell your kids years from now when this country is still fighting it way out of a massive debt load, failed socialized medical and a destroyed business sector? He talked pretty and you so gosh darn badly wanted to help elect an African-American to prove that America was not racist any more regardless of his qualifications?

You are good at shouting about the weaknesses of those who disagree with you (while giving a free pass for the same sins committed by your comrades). (Yes, I know you claim to be tolerant too.)
I have yet to hear a single reason why any of the policy positions taken by Obama make sense in the “real” world. Are you all that devoid of substance?
What do we have to show for the $10 to $11 TRILLION plus spent on the Great Society programs spawned by FDR and Johnson? Medicaid is a failure. Medicare is a failure. Social Security is a failure. Public schools are a failure (look at how US students stack up against other industrialized countries). Congress had to close it’s cafeteria after it lost $18 million (it takes effort to lose that much on a cafeteria). I could go on.
The bottom line is government can’t run anything. Obama pronounces the government takeover of more of our economy and lives almost daily. He declares economic war on the most productive members of society. The stock market crashes because it understands that Obama is pursuing economically destructive policies. Even lifelong liberal Democrats like Jim Cramer see the destructive nature of Obama’s policies.
Why would any sane person want to hand more power and money to the government? If you owned a business and someone came with a resume of failure like that, you would not hire him unless you had a death wish.

In case anyone missed it we had a nationwide debate on Nov. 4, 2008. The GOP got it’s hind end handed to it. America’s message to the GOP losers ? – ” You have sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go !” ( Oliver Cromwell – 1635 ) Anyone who is not aware of the dislike most Americans have for the GOP must have their head stuck in a dark, smelly place that is blocking their vision and hearing! Hate and fear are poor selling points, that and rapidly changing demographics will soon reduce the GOP to a minor, regional party. The GOP COULD change and move to the center, but then it would not be the GOP. I do NOT like the idea of a one party country. But, that is the future in the USA. Don’t think so ?
