Will the New Kindle Fire be an Improvement?
I just saw on Amazon that the new Kindle Fire HD will be available as soon as next week. What caught my eye about the new Kindle was this:
Reduced Screen Glare
Most tablet displays are made up of two pieces of glass – an LCD on the bottom and a touch sensor on the top, separated by an air gap. With an air gap, light reflects off of every surface as it passes through from the front, creating multiple distracting reflections that reduce display contrast. Kindle Fire HD solves this air gap problem by laminating the touch sensor and the LCD together into a single layer of glass, creating a display that’s easy to view, even in overhead light.
One of my pet peeves with the Kindle has been the glare that often causes eye strain, at least for me. For that reason, I don’t use the Kindle as much as I would like, though we have several. I am hoping that this new one solves that problem. I look forward to trying it out.

I’ve definitely been thinking about a kindle, of some sort but leaning toward the fire(s), and the upgrades would be nice. I used to have 3G/4G on my wishlist keeping the kindle on the waitlist, but my smartphone can act as a hotspot so I don’t need that on the device now. I don’t know, the only thing for me is… can I qualify the price? Still, if glare is a huge problem, money isn’t a major problem… I would dive in. If if isn’t what you had hoped you can always return it for a little shipping at most.
For me, the dual antenna and better sound is what would sell it. But since I don’t have one, therefore don’t know about glare issues, I just can’t say… If you try it do offer a review!
I would either buy myself a proper tablet, or get the cheap Kindle with the monochrome screen. The kindle fire is more of a budget tablet than a dedicated reading device.
