The new Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) will combine Sony Computer Entertainment’s PlayStation-related hardware and software with Sony Network Entertainment International’s PlayStation Vue and PlayStation Store content.
“By integrating the strengths of PlayStation’s [programs], SIE will become an even stronger entity, with a clear objective to further accelerate the growth of the PlayStation business,” Andrew House, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, said in a statement.
SIE will be headquartered in San Mateo, California, with offices in Tokyo and London, too.
The move comes with a few management shakeups: House has been tapped as global chief of SIE, while SCE America lead Shawn Layden is set to be head of worldwide studios. Kazuo Miura, John Kodera, Kazuo Hirai, and Kenichiro Yoshida will also be part of the SIE board.
Sony, the consumer electronics maker, is in serious trouble and has been for years. Sony, the video game console maker & developer knocked it out of the park (again) with the Playstation 4.
There’s shareholder value to be unlocked with this spinoff which has been a long time coming.
