What is it with Marxists and aliens?

Okay, I confess that in the hazy days of my young adolescence, I read Jacques Bergier and even – gasp – Velikovsky.  This was in line with ideas I was exploring at the time, with the novels of Clifford Simak, with the conspiracy theory of history and the ideas of deep secrets and quasi-cabalistic meanings to the past.

All of them are eminently suitable things for teens to think about.  At some time, though, we grow up and get enough facts about the history of Earth and humans, and enough understanding of the process of technological discovery and innovation that we stop believing “the aliens came from space, and they gave us all of this” stuff.  Oh, we – okay, I – might use stuff like that, shamelessly, to build the background of an alternate history/science fiction/fantasy series, but we don’t swallow the tales, or not without much chewing.

Yes, the family tree of humans does have more holes than bastards in a European royal line, as Robert A. Heinlein pointed out.  Yes, I’m highly amused whenever they find yet another anatomically modern homo sapiens bone/remain that takes back the dawn of our species another fifty thousand or hundred thousand years.

But I’m also aware of how short – relatively speaking – our existence as a species is, and the rarity of fossilized/preserved remains.  That means finding anything from us is rare indeed, and scientists will inevitably – often – conclude the absence of evidence is evidence of absence.

I don’t even object to the idea that there were other civilizations before ours, civilizations possibly getting to the level of Greek or Roman or thereabouts.  Certainly, discoveries like Göbekli Tepe indicate there’s a lot we don’t know about our ancestors.

But… aliens?  Absence of evidence is also not evidence of existence.  And frankly, conspiracy theories going back hundreds of years and involving every government in the world are… shall we say — less than believable.

Yet the idea of aliens, that aliens visited us, and that they either started or had a strong hand in guiding our civilization seems to be a beloved idea of Marxists.  In fact, part of my disenchantment with these type of books came when they started injecting what can only be termed “New Age Marxism” into their prescriptions for what needed to happen on Earth before the aliens condescended to make us part of the galactic community.  It was all about eschewing greed — aka personal interest.  They don’t use the word well — and giving up on… well, pretty much Western civilization in its entirety.  Internal combustion engines, which used to allow us to print these books and transport them where readers could buy them, were often the big villain.  Their modern-day descendants — I told you I sometimes read them to help form the background of a book — are even more so, and the ones written ten years or so ago, would go off on rants on Bush and the Iraq war.  I suspect more recent ones go on about how Trump is the prime reason the aliens never visit.

In fact, on April 27, John Podesta in an interview with the history channel, assured us that if Hillary Clinton had won the presidency, she’d have declassified the secrets of UFOs.

If Hillary herself knew of this and agrees, she wouldn’t be the first Democrat candidate to make that promise.

After all, Jimmy Carter himself said he had seen a UFO and if he won the presidency he’d reveal the truth about UFOs, only to back away from that claim.  From the link:

During the presidential campaign of 1976, Carter promised that, if elected president, he would encourage the government release “every piece of information” about UFOs available to the public and to scientists. After winning the presidency, though, Carter backed away from this pledge, saying that the release of some information might have “defense implications” and pose a threat to national security.

Note that after that, even while Hillary was the first lady and the cold war was over, no one made any efforts to reveal the sooper secret squirrel ufo conspiracy.

However, Podesta assures us that Hillary would have revealed all and Podesta is–  Okay, I couldn’t actually type that he was an honest man without laughing too hard to type.

But he seems really earnest and stuff in that interview with the History Channel:

Secretary Clinton, likewise, was also kind of interested in the topic, and during the course of the campaign said that, if elected, she would have ordered a more thorough declassification review …

Apparently, Democrats aren’t just for human illegal aliens.  They’ll take ones from Proxima Centauri with the same equanimity.

BTW if you don’t believe me — and I admit it’s almost surreal — follow that link and hear the this former White House chief of staff to President Clinton and counselor to President Obama as well as Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman talk about how the government has conspired to keep the secrets of UFO from us, and how it must be more transparent about flying saucers.

Seriously, if the left distrusts the government so badly and believes in these massive, multi-generation conspiracies, why do they want more government?

My theory, arrived at by reading a lot of them going blatheringly insane on how the aliens will come and scold us for ruining the environment or engaging in unchecked capitalism, or even not living in a communitarian state, is that their dream of having some kind of superior being confirm all their beliefs and making everyone else on Earth follow their orders is stronger than their suspicion of the government.

There is no rational reason why intelligent aliens — should they exist and visit — would be followers of a communitarian lifestyle, believers in the sacredness of Gaia, or supporters of any of the half-baked notions the left espouses.  They could very well be an aggressive species in search of another planet to conquer and subdue, or like the aliens in Independence Day serial world-despoilers who tear up a world and move on.  Arguably, logically, it makes more sense that such a species would be driven to space travel.  It would take a very strong faith indeed in New Agey principles for the kind of aliens leftists imagine to come visit us and scold us over our carbon emmisions.

But there is no point explaining that to the left.  Or even that there is no evidence of aliens visiting us.  They want so badly for Extraterrestrial Daddy to come home and tell all the rest of misbehaving humanity to shut up and do as they’re told!

It’s like they think they’d be the aliens’ teacher pets or something.

Alas, they’ll have to wait till another democrat is elected to the presidency and again welshes on promises to reveal all.

But they’re sure the truth is out there, and that it’s their truth.
