Illegal Alien Kills 2 in Louisiana Car Crash

On average, 11,000 people die in drunk driving accidents, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Every one of them is a tragedy stemming from a stupid decision caused by inebriation, and none of them should have ever happened.

One incident on Sunday in Lafourche Parish, La., killed two 18-year-olds, Rylan Oncale and his girlfriend Taliyah Crochet, and injured two others. The perpetrator was 18-year-old Honduran national Axel Flores-Cordova, who had no driver's license and had seven times the legal underage alcohol limit in his system at the time of the crash.

Local news site WWL noted that the legal underage blood-alcohol limit is 0.2 (for adults, it is 0.8). That means Flores-Cordova had a reading of 1.4. And yes, Flores-Cordova is now on an immigration detainer hold:

Crochet's mother Devin Deen posted a video expressing her grief at her daughter's death:

It's just so hard, these kids work so hard, so hard for 18-year-olds, they had such old souls... And now it's all just gone, and I am having such a hard time grasping the fact that like it's really just over. Like, they're gone. I woke up this morning just infuriated, if my anger could've blown up this world it would've, because I was so angry, I just kept screaming. I heard a hard knocking on the door... They had three state troopers and immediately they said I am looking for the parents of Taliyah Crochet... and girl I didn't even know what to do, my boyfriend opened the door, and I was like they're saying Taliyah is dead.

Rep. Clay Higgins (R-La.) said what we are all thinking as Americans:

Illegal aliens driving drunk and killing someone has not been uncommon. Back in January, an El Salvadoran man who had been deported four times drove drunk in Colorado, killing a mother and her son.

Around the time the January incident happened, Federation for American Immigration Reform's (FAIR) Michael McManus showed that in fiscal year 2022, 175 illegal aliens were arrested for drunk driving incidents.

That does not sound like much when we remember how many die in drunk driving incidents per year on average, but McManus also noted that Immigration and Customs Enforcement ICE) logged over 43,000 drunk driving offenses between fiscal year 2018 and fiscal year 2023.

Obviously, even if there were no illegal aliens in the country, drunk driving accidents would still occur, but to use Democrats' own logic for gun control: if it saves just one life, why not secure the border?
