Washington may be examining the rising cost of text messaging but consumers seem unfazed. CTIA, the mobile industry’s trade association, reports that US users sent about 75 Billion TM’s in June, a 160 percent increase year-over-year. Rising costs and rising usage spells rising revenue for the carriers who have reported sales pegged at almost $15 Billion, about 20 percent of carrier revenues, for the first half of 2008.
