The Myth of the Scientific ‘Climate Change’ Consensus

“Ninety-seven percent of scientists agree man-made climate change is a crisis.” How many times have you heard a variation on that? It’s bogus, of course — an invented statistic, just as the “climate crisis” is an invented catastrophe.

Whenever media or politicians make comprehensive and ambitious claims like “9–% of  all…” you need to take it with a grain of salt. It’s logistically difficult to obtain that data accurately, but leftists never let accuracy or reality bother them, so they conduct rigged polls or simply invent statistics and repeat them with extreme confidence and condescension. Leftists always scream down inconvenient facts without bothering to present facts on their side. And The Heartland Institute has real data to undermine the “97% of scientists agree on climate change” claim.

Heartland’s Climate and Environmental Policy Research Fellow Linnea Lueken noted, “First, it's important to point out that science is conducted with facts and evidence rather than a show of hands. Historically, we know that there have been widely held scientific beliefs about the natural world that were proven wrong. Evidence trumps a show of hands, and the scientific data continue to show that there is no climate crisis.”

That said, however, as Leukem continued, “it's also clear that there is no scientific consensus that a climate crisis exists.Many climate activists and media outlets claim that 97% of climate scientists believe humans are causing catastrophicclimate change that demands immediate action. In reality, polling of scientists shows no consensus of a climate crisis, letalone a 97% consensus.

In fact, just one scientific organization polled its entire membership, according to Leuken. For the American Meteorological Society, two-thirds of their members said they believed “that humans are the primary cause of modernwarming, [but] only about 30% said they are very worried about it. By contrast, 28% said they have little or no worry aboutclimate change, the largest chunk at 42% said they're merely somewhat worried.“ That’s frankly still concerning, but it’s better than 97% of them agreeing with climate alarmism.

Leuken added, “In another recent survey, pollsters at Fairleigh Dickinson University surveyed 400 scientists in climaterelated fields. 59% expect climate change to cause significant harm to the living conditions of people alive today, but theterm ‘significant harm‘ is a much lower threshold than climate crisis, and 59% is far short of 97%.”

In fact, thousands of scientists, “including those working at NASA and the National Oceanic and AtmosphericAdministration, have questioned the theory that humans are causing a crisis. For example, 1800 scientists prepared theWorld Climate Declaration, saying there is no climate emergency. Prior to that, more than 31,000 scientists signed theOregon Petition, which similarly declared that there is no crisis.

This begs the question — how do climate activists come up with that ridiculous 97% stat? “They point to surveys that askthe meaningless question of whether temperatures have risen lately,” Leuken said. “Scientists believing that temperatureshave modestly risen in recent years is not the same as scientists believing that the sky is falling.”

A key component of why you don’t hear about scientists who dispute the climate dogma is because media and politicians use climate alarmism to justify tyranny and infringement of rights, so they actively suppress dissidents. But also, they scare scientists into never speaking out their honest opinions and data in the first place. Big Tech is in on it — Google removed ad revenue for “climate denial” and Facebook censors anti-climate alarmist content, as do many other platforms.

On Darwinian evolution, climate change, contraceptives, and any number of other scientific and medical issues, the grant money and jobs don’t go to honest scientists, but to those who toe the line that academia, politics, and media draw. And government is a very big part of fueling the problem and funding biased research, which is why so many people freaked out at Donald Trump freezing climate alarmist funding.

The West doesn’t encourage honest scientific research and discourse, it enforces pseudo-scientific dogma. That needs to change.
