This fun little clip popped up on Twitter. It’s from 2008. In it, Washington Post Wonkblogger Ezra Klein admits that Obamacare would have to be passed, indeed Obama’s own election would require, a “sneaky strategy” because Democrats had been beaten roundly every time they had tried to pass anything close to a single-payer healthcare system in America. “At some point, you just have to win,” he tells the Netroots audience.
None of those present seem to have a problem with what he says.
Klein notes that 80-90% of Americans want healthcare reform, but the same number are happy with their coverage. His solution: Kick them off their plans and replace them with a government-run system they currently oppose. In order to do that, leftists must be “sneaky” and “put winning first” — i.e., before being honest that he and his fellow leftists want to destroy the entire private health insurance industry.
Here’s to hoping Megan McArdle sees the clip. It might inform her future columns on Obamacare.
