More Retailers Suspend Gun Sales

Tuesday evening, CheaperThanDirt.com announced on its Facebook page that it was temporarily suspending all online sale. Its statement reads:

Cheaper Than Dirt! has temporarily suspended online sales of firearms.

As a long time supporter of the Second Amendment, Cheaper Than Dirt! will continue to promote the safe and responsible use of firearms by law abiding customers. During this temporary suspension, we will review our policies and promotions.

The backlash was swift, with customers posting comments that CheaperThanDirt! has lost loyal customers, and some customers say that they will never purchase firearms or supplies from the site ever again. Some called the site’s owners “cowards.”

Wal-Mart has pulled a listing on its website advertising a semiautomatic rifle similar to the one used in the Sandy Hook killings.

The manufacturer of the Bushmaster rifle, Freedom Group, now faces uncertainty after its owner, Cerebrus Capital Management, has announced that it is selling the company. Freedom Group includes the 194-year-old Remington firearms brand and has more than 3,000 employees. Cerebrus owned 95% of Freedom Group.
