Another disruption to the media narrative:
George Michael Zimmerman, born Oct. 5, 1983, registered as a Democrat in Seminole County, Fla., in August 2002, according to state voter registration documents.
It is unclear whether he voted for President Barack Obama in 2008.
Some in the media have sought to blame Republican politicians and conservative activists for Martin’s death.
“[Republican politicians] reinforce and validate old stereotypes that associate the poor and welfare as criminal behavior with African-Americans and people of color, calling us lazy, undeserving recipients of public assistance. In the case of Trayvon, those festering stereotypes had lethal consequences,” said MSNBC political analyst and Democratic fundraiser Karen Finney.
According to the document, Zimmerman’s race is officially listed as Hispanic. The son of a white father and Peruvian mother, he has been described as a “white Hispanic” in most media reports.
As soon as this story became a political football, the backgrounds of both Zimmerman and Martin became relevant. Discussion of both became fair game. From what we continue to learn about both, this story just refuses to cooperate with the medialeft’s narrative of white racist Republican cracker killed angelic black youth in cold blood, police look the other way citing unnecessary “stand your ground” laws. The man who pulled the trigger was neither white nor Republican. The black youth was less than angelic. While “stand your ground” doesn’t seem to apply, one’s natural right of self-defense may well apply. The police may well have done everything right according to the law and the circumstances. Having evidently learned nothing from the Richard Jewell affair, the Tucson shootings, the AP’s wretched reporting over the course the entire Iraq war, and numerous other cases, the mainstream medialeft has behaved disgracefully throughout this story. There is no sign of any soul-searching taking place among them, as of yet.
The Black Panthers’ bounty on Zimmerman still stands, by the way.
Update: Christian Adams details the criminal acts that the Black Panthers have committed during the Martin case. “Solicitation to kidnap” is a serious crime, but as of yet it remains unpunished.
