Gallup: Americans Trust Government Less Than Ever Before

A new Gallup poll finds that fewer Americans trust the government to handle problems than at any point since the firm started asking that question.

The record-low rating comes from a Sept. 5-8 survey, in the heat of the Syria debate. Just 49 percent said they have a great deal or a fair amount of confidence in the government, two percentage points below the previous low of 51 percent recorded in 2007.

Even with the Syria debate in the background, public confidence in the federal government on domestic issues also fell to a new record low just as Obamacare is about to come into force:

And even though 71 percent of Democrats are giving the government the benefit of the doubt on international affairs, that plummets to just 58 percent of Dems trusting the government on domestic problems.
