Burka lady in Turkey demands Christmas tree removal
Here, in some kind of public venue in Turkey, a woman in a full-on Taliban-style burka, minus the eye coverings and gloves, demands that an apparently offensive Christmas tree be removed on the grounds that it’s “shirk,” meaning blasphemously idolatrous, and “haram.”
She reportedly got her way, and the tree was removed.
She is very angry and wants to take down the Christmas tree because Christmas is ‘haram.’

I actually don’t have strong feelings about a Muslim-majority country enforcing the hegemony of the dominant religion. I generally don’t support theocracy, but it’s not my country. C’est la vie.
However, I think this kind of behavior highlights the self-immolating tendencies of an open, secular, liberal democracy juxtaposed against the arguably oppressive nature of places such as Turkey.

I doubt very much that whatever the ACLU counterpart is in Turkey, if such a thing even exists, is going to file a lawsuit in response to this incident to protect minority religious symbols in public spaces, or to punish people such as the burka lady, who exhibit intolerance against rival religions.
On a long enough timeline, illiberal, intolerant, sectarian forces that do not share the same commitment to the secularism enshrined in the Bill of Rights inevitably weaponize a liberal society’s openness against it — juxtaposed, again, with closed societies, which can much better withstand the foreign or sectarian infiltration and subversion of the traditional culture.
It’s asymmetric warfare.
So what’s the solution, aside from remigration?
I don’t know, but it’s increasingly obvious that the neoliberal projects of mass population relocations into Western countries, balkanization along sectarian lines with foreign populations pitted against native populations, etc. are self-inflicted wounds that don’t afflict non-Western civilization to nearly the same extent.
Germany: Another Christmas market stabbing
No word yet on the identity of the perpetrator — but, we can be sure, if it turns out to be a non-German migrant, the authorities will almost certainly do what they can to make sure it never comes to light.

A boy has been seriously injured after being knifed at a Christmas market as police hunt the attacker.
The 16-year-old was at Herford Christmas Market, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, when the attack happened. Police say he was found staggering in a side street near to a church and rushed to hospital.
Detectives have started an investigation into the incident and believe that the knifeman and his victim knew each other. The police have not yet released any information about the attacker's identity but he remains at large.
As reported by the "Neue Westfälische," the 16-year-old managed to drag himself a few more metres after the attack. And according to witnesses, he asked passers-by for help near the church before collapsing.
