Former White House senior adviser David Plouffe took to Twitter to question Rep. Darrell Issa’s ethics after the California Republican trashed press secretary Jay Carney.

“Strong words from Mr Grand Theft Auto and suspected arsonist/insurance swindler. And loose ethically today,” Plouffe tweeted on Sunday, linking to a video of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee chairman on CNN’s “State of the Union” calling Carney a “paid liar” who was “making things up” about the IRS scandal.

The charge against Issa comes from the 1970s, and was dropped in 1980. For perspective, at that time I was wearing my hair Luke Skywalker style and was still a decade away from my first martini. This, from the crowd who tried to claim Benghazi was “a long time ago.”

It’s Panic Time on Pennsylvania Avenue.

UPDATE: Jim Geraghty wins this round.

So Issa has some skeletons in his closet. No big surprise - lots of Congressmen/women do - but dropped charges of theft, arson & insurance swindling seem dwarfed by unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers' & Weather Underground's bombings (resulting in at least 3 deaths) & anti-govt activities in the 60's & 70's. Ayers holds (held?) a position of shaping young minds & Issa holds a position of shaping laws. Neither was convicted, and Ayers went free due to illegal activities of then-John Mitchell-led DOJ bugging defense attorneys' offices- so have things really changed? The difference is Democrats -thanks in no small part to the media- will likely walk away from their illegal DOJ activities, whereas Republicans didn't.

There are 88 IRS bureaucrats who are not going to go under the bus quietly. Jail time and firing mean nothing. Just threaten their pensions.

If you were a big dog in the WH, would you want 88 career IRA agents mad at you?

Its going to be a long, hot summer.

I think there are also a few career bureaucrats at State who are unwilling to jump under the bus.

I do agree that followers of Gerry Adams can be quite intimidating as well. ;-)

The late Sen. Chappaquidick had no problems at all with Gerry Adams, so I have no idea what you're talking about. :-)
