Cal Poly San Luis Obispo thinks it has a diversity problem, and wants to reduce the percentage of white people attending the university. The College Fix reports:

In keeping with the diversity and inclusion movement sweeping campuses across the country, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo recently released a 30-page report outlining plans to “improve diversity” via a series of initiatives.

However, according to that 30-page report, the school’s enrollment is currently 55 percent white. The city of San Luis Obispo was almost 85 percent white in 2010, the most recent census. In other words, the college’s 55 percent represents an enrollment that has no reflection of the city’s demographics.

As public universities, Cal Poly schools attract people from all over the state. Is the administration trying to match California’s demographics?

No: The state is 72.4 percent white.

If the current admission system is functioning without racial bias, the school’s demographics could be expected to reflect those of the area it generally draws from. However, the administration is not doing that. The taxpayer-funded university intends to make its student body reflect a demographic mix that the administration finds to be preferable to that of the taxpayers.

They are demanding that white students be underrepresented — because something about white DNA makes for an inferior student experience. At what point will these people recognize that intentional underrepresentation is not a diversity push, but racism?

Policies of the past that intentionally excluded minorities from universities were wrong. If minority students are now proportionally represented, than racism is no longer a barrier.

If students are again being intentionally excluded under the assumption that society would be better with fewer members of their race around, then the administration is again engaged in the vicious, divisive racism this country worked so hard to eliminate.
