Ted Cruz to Introduce Legislation Barring Muslim Refugees from Entering America

Texas Senator — and Republican presidential candidate — Ted Cruz will introduce legislation that would make it impossible for Muslim refugees from Syria to enter the United States. At this moment, 30 states have already said they wouldn’t accept any Syrians for “resettlement,” but Cruz wants to make sure they can’t settle anywhere in the U.S.

According to the Washington Post, Cruz was still working on the legislation yesterday night. However, according to reports in other media, the bill would be focused on keeping Muslim refugees out. Syrian Christians — who are victims of genocide — would still be allowed to come across the pond and move to America.

On Sunday, Cruz explained in South Carolina:

There is no meaningful risk of Christians committing acts of terror. If there were a group of radical Christians pledging to murder anyone who had a different religious view than they, we would have a different national security situation.

Although he’ll almost certainly take flack from leftists, Cruz’s proposal isn’t anything more or less than common sense. As he said, it’s “nothing short of lunacy” to allow Muslim refugees in, especially in large numbers.

The fact of the matter is that the United States has no way of checking refugees’ backgrounds. We do know, however, that ISIS is using the refugee crisis to smuggle jihadis into the West. At least two of the Paris attackers were Syrian extremists pretending to be on the run from ISIS and other radical groups. Last Friday, Europe suddenly discovered they had lied.

That was too little, too late.

This issue is truly simple: No country on earth exists for the sake of other countries. They exist for their own people(s). It’s very kind and generous of them when they take in refugees from other parts of the world, but it’s utterly irresponsible if doing so means they’re putting their own citizens at risk.
