There’s a reason that the Islamic State’s magazine looks so slick and reads like it was written for a young American audience. There’s a reason that IS’ social media appear to be designed to get their message out to the west, effectively.

The man behind the message is believed to be an American. And contrary to the left’s notions that poverty causes terrorism, he is not poor. He is also not uneducated.

A college educated American citizen with a knack for computers is believed to be one of the men running the brutally effective ISIS social media operation, which is helping to attract hundreds of fighters from across the world – including the U.S., Britain and Canada.

Ahmad Abousamra, 32, was born in France and raised in the upscale Boston suburb of Stoughton. His father is a prominent endocrinologist at Massachusetts General Hospital. He attended the exclusive Xaverian Brothers Catholic high school and made the Dean’s List at Northeastern University.

He graduated with a degree in a technology field then took a job at a telecommunications company.

U.S. officials tell ABC News that he is now putting his skills to work for ISIS, the brutal terrorist organization that has been effectively using 21st century methods like Twitter memes, Facebook posts, selfies and YouTube videos to promote its radical 6th century Islamic ideals.

He originally left the U.S. to fight for al Qaeda in Iraq in 2004. He went into the media wing, returned to the U.S. in 2006, was questioned by the FBI, and then released again. Now he’s believed to be the man behind ISIS’ social media strategy.

Update: Some commenters have pointed out that this guy is far worse than Tokyo Rose. I’ve changed the headline.

Jane Fonda would be an equivalent substitution.

He might not fit the Left's profile of what turns a westerner to terror, but I'll bet my last money that he is a child of the Left. Born, bred and educated in the Left and all their muck.

Why wasn't this guy summarily executed in 2004 when he returned to the States?

Let's not be so quick to visit the sins of the children upon the parents. Parents are an influence, not a determinant.

Plenty of good kids despite awful parents. Plenty of bad kids come from very good parents. "Parents" meant to include both the actions and the values of the parents.

And, of course, plenty of good kids from good parents.

Everything you say is true, but it's also an overused cliche that sounds like excuses to me.

Amhad's parents were paying for his travels and lifestyle, knew the FBI interviewed him (friends and family are always interviewed themselves) and didn't do enough to stop him. I wouldn't be able to show my face in public. Think about what he's done! The inhumanity, the evilness.

I have a daughter whose husband is taking risks with his own life. I have almost ended my relationship with her trying to get him to stop this behavior. I raised her and if she's making bad decisions I'm partly to blame. If the worst happens I can say to myself that I did everything humanly possible to stop it. I doubt Amhad's parents can say the same.

Stop picking on his family…I don't know if they are responsible or not…but I must say that the academic atmosphere in Boston could have a lot to do with it…especially at Northeastern..it's a hotbed for anti-Israel…no wonder that a terrorist would come out from there.

You really don't know much about Boston or MA. It might be liberal but it's also pro-Israel. Almost all the pols are pro-Israel.

Amhad didn't join jihad because he hated Jews. He joined because he hated Americans.

Boston and its liberal institutions, which just suffered greatly from terrorism, bare no responsiblity for his actions. His parents, though, are responsible for how their son turned out. They should have done more.

Why is this creature still suffered to crawl about the planet?

For that matter, why the hell does Al Qaida get to have a magazine? Does that come under the "marketplace of ideas" or something?

This might seem harsh but his family holds some responsibilty. Mass General is one of the best hospitals in the world. It's a privilege to work there. The father has lost that privilege. I'm sure some other country could use his medical expertise. Get lost.

"... was questioned by the FBI, and then released again..."

This seems to be a pattern with the Bureau.
I would suspect an institutional cancer that needs to be cut out.

Either that or he was released in order to be tracked.

I assume he was naturalized as an American citizen along with his parents while he was a child. If so, then Article III [Judicial Powers}, Section 3 of the Constitution applies to him.

"Section 3.

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.

The Congress shall have power to declare the punishment of treason, but no attainder of treason shall work corruption of blood, or forfeiture except during the life of the person attainted."

So, find him, bring him back, and hang him.

And pack up his family, revoke whatever citizenship status they have, and put them on a slow-boat to Istanbul.

Istanbul's not Constantinople.

Why did Constantinople get the works? That's nobody's business but the Turks'.

It's Constantinople to me and the Turks, who are or have converted the Hagia Sophia back to a mosque, can go screw themselves.

What a stupid song.

Islam is in these United States to help destroy American culture and it plays it's role very well.

What bothers me is folks just can't understand Muhammad was not radical. To us yes, but to Islam he is their perfect man. IS is following Muhammad. Abousamra is following Muhammad. Who is his Imam?

That's not fair. Tokyo Rose was forced to do it, and there was evidence she did her best to mitigate the effects of her broadcasts. She also used her pay from the Japanese to help American POWs.
