Democrat Rep. Julia Brownley (CA) fired off a fundraising email on July 30. Subject line: DEVELOPING STORY: [Impeachment]. Here is that email.

It’s signed “Thanks for standing strong,”

The email implies that Brownley’s Republican opponent, Jeff Gorell, supports impeaching President Obama.

He doesn’t.

Brian Dennert, journalist for the Ventura County Star, started tweeting at Gorell about the email.

Gorell tweeted back.

Dennert responded:

Gorell replied:

Dennert, a liberal, was persuaded and turned his fire back on Brownley.

Brownley’s response?

Dear Bryan: In the title of your article, you write: " . . . Fundraising Off Of Impeaching Obama."

It's never "off of" anything. I see this mistake everywhere, even from sharp guys like you (I mean that sincerely: I appreciate all that you do in this space). The construction is always wrong. "Off," all by itself, is sufficient. But I daresay no one in the media ever gets it right.

Outside of the media and the world, I get it right. But that's just I (note the "I"; the objective case "me" would be incorrect). I've paid a terrible price for my position.

I'm not nitpicking. I'm just trying to recover from the pain of seeing this particular error in print yet again.

Keep up the fight, Bryan.
