If you listen to progressives these days, the Supreme Court has granted corporations the power to compel their employees to go to church. It has empowered corporations to tell women to throw away their contraceptives. Five of the men on the court have declared full jihad against all of the women of America. Next stop, subjugation, revocation of the right to vote, and the end of women’s rights in America.

All of that is absurd, of course. The Hobby Lobby case was a too-narrow win for religious freedom and private property rights. But it’s making for amusing theatrics around the country as Democrats grapple with the fact that the man atop their party is an incompetent buffoon, and the American people have figured that out, and the Democrats are stuck with him.

Two years ago, I coined a phrase that stuck. In June of 2012, President Obama suspended the federal government’s immigration law enforcement agreements with the state of Arizona. He did this to retaliate for that state passing a modest law with the aim of getting a handle on the growing chaos on its border with Mexico. Obama was “going Soviet” on Arizona, I wrote, and Rush Limbaugh and others quickly picked up the phrase to describe what was going on. What I meant by “going Soviet” was that Obama was clearly punishing Arizona and singling it out to make an example of it for other states, especially red states. The phrase reaches back into the history that they no longer teach in our schools, to a time when the Soviet Union existed and was as brutal to its own people as it attempted to be to the rest of the world. People who stepped out of line would find themselves subjected to abuse by their own government. On the extreme end, the USSR literally starved millions of Ukrainians to death. The American press, led by the New York Times, helped the Soviets cover up their ghastly crimes. The US media has served a similar function during Obama’s reign.

In June of 2012, Obama punished Arizona for its attempt to enforce immigration law. In those days, none of us had any idea that the Obama IRS was also systematically punishing Tea Party groups by dragging out their tax-exempt application processes and subjecting them to invasive and abusive questioning. Most of us had no idea that True the Vote’s Catherine Engelbrecht was being subjected to abuse from a litany of executive branch agencies. “Going Soviet” was more applicable than we knew, two years ago. We did not know that the IRS was criminally releasing conservative groups’ donor information to their leftwing enemies. AG Eric Holder’s refusal to investigate that was still in the future.

Fast forward two years, and Obama has been re-elected but he is already a lame duck when it comes to getting anything done in Congress. No one there trusts him. The Democrats have no relationship with him. The Republicans have been burned and, even if they wanted to strike a deal with him, sentient ones know that he will re-write whatever deal is crafted before the ink on his signature is dry. Pass a full immigration reform deal, and he will strip out all of the enforcement components and grant sweeping amnesty to millions of illegal aliens. He may even do what President Clinton did once, and speed up citizenship for millions of illegal aliens ahead of an election — so they can register and vote.

The polls show where Obama’s actions and untrustworthiness have led. He is rated the worst president since World War II. His personal popularity has crashed. Americans now say that we would all have been better off if Mitt Romney had been elected president in 2012. Obama has failed to help veterans, despite his explicit promises to reform the Veterans Administration. His foreign policy is a flop, and now Russia is on the march from one direction and the Islamic State, a new caliphate, is on the march in another. American influence is at such a low ebb that Russian pilots will soon be flying over Iraq to help that country and Iran push back against the Islamists. Either out of cluelessness or malice, Obama still wants to arm Syrian rebels, many of whom are Islamist radicals too.

And then there’s the Texas-Mexico border. Two years ago, Arizona’s border was in crisis mode, and Obama responded by punishing that state. Today, Texas is being flooded by illegal aliens.

Great article and unfortunately, probably a very astute analysis (I feel a deserved compliment is in order after ribbing you in the soccer post).

Your “going Soviet” phrase reminds me of the famous Harper’s magazine essay from 1941 by Thompson: “Who Goes Nazi?”

The problem we have now really only has one solution. The fever must break on the Democrat side. There’s not much Republicans can actually do until Obama is out of office. But if honest liberals in the press, think tanks, and universities start to turn, maybe some politicians will jump ship, too.

Unfortunately, while I think we are seeing more liberals getting uncomfortable with the President’s actions, the Democrats in congress remain politically locked.

At this point a President Biden would be a less worse option.

My tin foil hat may be on a bit tight, but it seems to me that Obama is intentionally provoking Americans, pushing us to the brink, in hope that some will do something drastic, giving him the excuse to declare martial law and install himself as president for life.

Stay calm and resist the urge.

Reminds me of Paris Glendenning of Maryland, who punished the counties that did not vote for him. Ever notice that politicians (*) who are former professors tend towards complete ruthlessness? I suspect the cutthroat world of university politics has something to do with it.

(*) At least Democratic professors who did not teach at small colleges. Examples: Both Clintons, Obama, and the aforementioned Paris.

I love when they say Jihad or Taliban. First of all, isn't that "Islamophobic"? Secondly, from what I know here in Israel, Moslems have no problem with abortion.

Great post. From here on in Obama is acting out his dreams, the ones of aggression and harm to the country he hates. This goes back to his years in Reverend Wrights screaming racist church, this is the real Obama and it's going to be destructive. He moves into a totally fascist mode.
And the media will continue to cover for him.

...obama [and slo-joe??!!] resigning??...
..............
Granted, narcissists, sociopaths, and egomaniacs don't intra-cranially process ever along such lines ..... An epiphany or moment of clarity? The burst of insight in an overhead balloon in a cartoon panel? A conscience?

He could be assured that he never had to hear a word of criticism or be asked hard questions ever again. The life-long perks he will get from the taxes from his victims and the $Ms more he will receive from his long term subsiidizers and his idolaters and cronys. Speaking fees - oh yes...? He can go into his own little pity party, go into full blown denial and escape, and only hear from adulaters. He will have his choices of only those people who like him to ever be with? He does have to give up weekly trips on AF1 and free golf whenever he chooses. He can smoke, watch TV news and sports as he wants, and close out whatever he chooses. Being the President is probably still OK. Doing the Presidential job is not fun anymore.
But more scary is how have his so, so capable handlers have anticipated how he is to respond to the dirty nuke or EMP on American soil during his reign of error. He is not going to be able to go Vegas for a fund-raiser after going back to bed. Pain avoidance is a natural survival response. Walk away??

Thanks again to all the Republicans who stayed home because they couldn't bring themselves to vote for Romney.

This happened in California when we recalled Governor Gray Davis in 2003. On his way out the door, he tripled auto registration fees. It was nothing but a big F-U to the people of California for throwing him out.

Obama knows that no one loves him now, and he's going to punish us for it.

Eric Cantor's people did the same thing to the Republican Party in Virginia's 7th District. Basically they took all of the money that had accumulated in the 7th and sent it to the RNC, thereby impoverishing Dave Brat and the state party, while financing the likes of Thad Cochran.

Thank God Romney wasn't elected or we would have real amnesty instead of de facto amnesty. We need a real TEA Party conservative to turn this country around. Another phony like RINO Romney or a fresh-faced charlatan like Rubio isn't going to cut it.

Romney couldn't have done amnesty. But we would not have Obamacare, or a billion regulations that choke business, and at least he would not let the IRS stonewall.

I find myself thinking about this fellow way too much...

Mr. Obama has given up caring what any of his critics think and will do whatever he pleases and say whatever he pleases from now. He is a desperate man.

While the press and left have started to realise he is nothing great, they will support any move or statement he makes to the absolute hilt. They will largely ignore discussion or blame of the man himself. Indeed at present all blame has now shifted from Bush to GOP and Congress. He stands as yet completely exonerated of any suspcion.

Expect more radical moves from him and greater reaction to the right as the object of hatred. He will continue to be beyond reproach as he assumes the figurehead role of loudspeaking mouthpiece and press secretary for "big feminista" who as we all know here, truly control the western world's worldview.

Now, I am off to meditate so I can forget about these largely deluded and self deceiving individuals. There is nothing more we can do until we are called to fix up their mess.

Is it desperation, or is it just that, judging from past experience, he knows he CAN. Everything he has tried to do, he has done. Nobody has stopped him yet. Why shouldn't he believe he is invincible? I don't believe it's desperation at all.
More like simple delusion.

Why delusion? There really is nothing to stop him. He is the first Democrat to realize that he is judgment-proof, because the press will not say a word. Clinton could have done the same, but he didn't know the power he had.

Reminds me much more of Hitler circa 1934-36. He is organizing his brown shirts, arming the various smaller police forces of the Federal Government, and trying to put toadies into the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Murrieta, California, incident was interesting. The question is, was it truly spontaneous or were there a bunch of agitators involved? If the latter, it was a test.

....“seems like [President Obama] is giving up on the job [of president].”

For one who has never had a real job he cannot give up on something he does not know how to do.

"Barack Obama isn't giving up. He’s just getting started."

And when is Congress going to get started impeaching his a$$?
