The IRS scandal was always about politics.

In the very month that ObamaCare passed, March 2010, the groups of Americans that were organizing to fight against ObamaCare were targeted by the agency that will implement ObamaCare. That’s the essence of the scandal. But it is not the full extent of it.

IRS workers union chief Colleen Kelley had access to President Obama and, according to White House logs, met with him on March 31, 2010. The abuse of Tea Party, conservative, Hispanic, pro-life, Christian, and Jewish groups, which must have been in the works for weeks or even months prior, formally began the following day. Americans became April Fools for continuing to believe that we had a government of the people, by the people and for the people. As of April 1, 2010, we had a government arraying itself against the people, or at least against some of the people. According to polls taken at the time, a majority opposed ObamaCare. So it could be said that the IRS was arrayed against a majority of American voters who were organizing to protest the government’s expansion under Obama.

The abuse continued through 2010 and 2011, right into 2012 and to the present. True the Vote, for instance, still has not been granted its tax-exempt status to this day. It filed suit against the IRS yesterday. Its founder, Catherine Engelbrecht, was subjected to Kafka-esque abuses not just by the IRS, but by an alphabet soup of executive branch agencies: the FBI, OSHA, and ATF joined in.

The executive branch of our government is topped by the president. The IRS, which answers to his chosen appointee at the Department of the Treasury, abused his critics and opponents, up to and through a mid-term he and his party lost, and through a close re-election that he ultimately won. We may have to put an asterisk after that, though: It’s possible now to assert, based on the evidence, that the IRS helped him win. Just as performance-enhancing steroids helped a generation of baseball players crank home runs they may not have hit without the drugs, the IRS may have been Barack Obama’s electoral performance-enhancing agency and helped him win an election he otherwise may have lost.

How? It’s simple. The IRS systematically oppressed his critics in ways that hobbled their ability to participate in the electoral process. That oppression kept them from organizing and fundraising as effectively as they might have. It convinced many of them to give up and quit. At the same time, groups allied to the president were having their applications sail through the IRS. This strengthened Obama’s friends and weakened his enemies, systematically, over the course of more than two years as he ramped up to become the first billion-dollar president.

The IRS was aware of the abuse at the top levels by May 2012. Just six months before the election. America learned during testimony in Congress today that not only was the IRS aware of the abuse, it had investigated it. Having investigated it, the agency then covered it up and told Congress nothing about it. The IRS maintained the charade just long enough for Barack Obama to be re-elected. Now, the IRS orchestrated breaking the scandal open more than a year before the next mid-term, an election in which Barack Obama hoped to flip the House to Democrat control and consolidate his power for the remaining two years of his presidency.

You don’t need to be a conspiracy theorist to see what’s right in front of your eyes. A conspiracy is defined as “an agreement to perform together an illegal, wrongful, or subversive act.” Criminals are convicted of engaging in conspiracies every day. By that definition of conspiracy, even Lois Lerner’s “two rogue employees in Cincinnati” were a conspiracy. Now we know that there were at least six agents involved, that their supervisors had to be involved, that the heads of the determinations office had to be involved, and that at least knowledge of the abuse went all the way to Washington. The main question now is, did the abuse start there in Washington, and did it even start in the IRS?

Catherine Engelbrecht’s experience strongly hints that the conspiracy and campaign to oppress the president’s critics began outside the IRS, higher than any single executive branch agency, and higher than any of the president’s political appointees. That suggests that it either began in the White House, or in the Obama 2012 campaign, or in a melding of the two.

After today’s hearings, we have a few new facts, but more questions than answers. Americans deserve full and complete answers. We deserve to know whether our president or his close lieutenants abused their government power in order to maintain their own.

Lets clear up one misconception - there is no difference between the Obama administration and the Obama campaign. They are one and the same organ on a perpetual mission to promote one man and to punish anyone standing in his way. On the way to the 2012 elections the campaign co-opted all functions of the government that 'it' thought could be helpful in the suppression of the 'opposition'. Even with the 'Full Monty' of the US government Obama damned near lost the election. Could these illegal actions on the part of the IRS and other organs of the State have swayed the election? Without doubt. Will the perps be prosecuted? I hope to the full extent of the law. This has all the hallmark M.O. of Obama himself. A public shaming won't be enough for me - I wish to see him in jail - for a very long time.

'They' never imagined they could be made to answer for their crimes of using the full might of the US government against the American people. And why would they? After all the MSM has always been a reliable 'partner' to Obama - studiously ignoring facts or rumors whenever it suited them - and making up facts to fit the narrative when need be - which is to say they never performed their job as the watchdog of government.

Perhaps the MSM will end up being un-indicted co-conspirators?

Your argument, taken to it's logical end, means we have a criminal as President.

Let me be clear. At no time was the Obama administration aware of what the Obama administration was doing or to whom they were doing it. Anyone who says differently is a conspiracy theorist wacko and a racist.

Yes the IRS appears to have picked sides in the 2012 election, but the Stupid Party still made many unforced errors that let the Evil Party win. The 2010 elections gave the Stupid Party historic high levels of control at the state level and thousands of potential volunteers. All the Stupid Party ever asks those energized citizens to do is to send them money.

The Stupid Party let opponents moderate debates. This allowed George Stephanopoulos to inject the "war on women" into the campaign. They allowed Candy Crowley to "moderate" a debate and mislead viewers about Benghazi.

The Stupid Party also failed to get the basics of GOTV right. Independent of the actions of the Evil Party, the Stupid Party failed to get the military supporters to the polls, probably costing them Florida and Virginia. In addition, in every election cycle overseas military ballots are late, but the Stupid Party fails to use their state government advantage to find a way to bypass federal government foot dragging.

The Stupid Party also failed to use their state government power to clean up the election process. I'm glad for the efforts of True the Vote volunteers and others, but there are people earning paychecks that should be cleaning up the voter rolls and making sure the rules are followed. Yes they kept getting blocked by Eric Holder, but they should have been more prepared to fight back.

>>Was the IRS Obama’s Electoral Performance-Enhancing Agency?<<

Well, yeah. Duh! And every other portion of the god-king's administration and federal government were, too. This is news in what way? It's like saying you're surprised when the mafia engages in organized crime. It's who they are; it's what they do. Ditto with the thuggish regime in DC acting like a thuggish regime.

David, you are absolutely correct. And we should not believe any of the nonsense that comes out of this Admin or the toadies in the MSM:

There is the parable about the scorpion hitching a ride over a river on the back of a frog. The frog is afraid that the scorpion may sting him, but the scorpion promises he will behave. Halfway over the river, the scorpion stings the frog. As the frog dies, he says "But you promised not to sting!"
The scorpion replies "I cannot help it, it's my nature."

A pile of Chicago thugs take over DC, and we were supposed to expect something besides thuggish government?

2008 was an anamoly: shoot, even Hillary could have beaten McCain. But the 2012 election was definitely stolen by the machinary of a government gone berserk.

Don't tell me that cheaters never win. Cheaters often win, and we taxpayers pay for the victory celebration.

WHAT THE IRS DID WAS TO OBSTRUCT FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND SUBVERT CITIZENS UNITED.

And, of course, it was a conspiracy.

THE FBI, CIA AND IRS WORKERS SEEM TO BE UNABLE TO CONNECT THE DOTS, WHICH ANY CHILD CAN DO.
The White House and the Obama 2012 campaign committee were really one in the same. Any government worker speaking to a top committee official would assume the WH knew and would know about the conversation. Obama was able to achieve this by switching personnel back and forth.

I would like to call your attention to a very illuminating letter from a former IRS employee that's posted at Powerline. It destroys the "rogue agents" storyline. I apologize in advance for the html mess that will probably surround the URL.

the IRS, the Left, and the 2012 election:

1. the 2010 election presented the stunning power of the new Tea Party movement.
2. shortly thereafter, with the 2012 election coming up, the Word Went Forth - target the Tea Party.
3. the key swing states for the 2012 presidential election were known in advance.
4. What we want to know is if Tea Party organizations and other conservative groups and individuals in those key battleground states received special emphasis in the obama administration's nationwide attacks on their political opposition:
Ohio
Florida
North Carolina
Pennsylvania

We know Obama ordered it. He said, "We will reward our friends and punish our enemies." Those were his express wishes. When the boss says that sort of thing, underlings take that as a green light. He said it publicly.

It doesn't have to be in some written memo, especially as this administration loves to avoid paper trails. Think of the meetings arranged so that the visitors did not have to sign in at the WH.
